If you are nice to Mark I bet he will let you ride his.

10 grand sounds like alot. But with the time involved and the trick parts, its a bargain

I wish we had motocross bikes like that again, not the current crop of roadracers with knobbies we have now.

Twin spa frames...fuel injection...even Reeds swingarm last year at Budds is all direct from RR. Also the physical size of the bikes now..so much rolling mass with all the gizmo's on them now.

How about the big 4 producing brand new "vintage" bikes? They could reproduce them from the original drawings and molds and sell them at a discount price. It sure would boost the vintage market and make it cheap for someone to go racing. (not to mention it would be super-cool!)

I'd be all over that

Dreamin', but just imagine class racing on current production-based "vintage" bikes. With 4 1/2" - 6" travel... the return of vintage styling... I wish Smile

That's exactly what I did! The Ward replica on the left is for show and the mini on the right is for go. It rips, scary fast being so small.

That is so cool!...EVERY mini rider back then wanted a Wardy replica, even Brian Myerscough...haha!

I say the big four could reproduce pre 1978 bikes except run disk brakes. Water cooling is outlawed and suspension is regulated to 10inches. They could produce them for half the price of a current bike.

Those are so cool, I can't decide which one I like better, the Marty Smith or the Jeff Ward. Wish I had a spare 20k kicking around so I could hang both on my office wall.

Awesome idea Terry on reproducing using the old tooling. Most would of us my age would be all over it. All of the bikes had their own "identities" and ideas for suspension back then. Today, with different colored plastic and 30 ft. away, all bikes look the same.
Here in the south, many of the vinatge races are drying up, as far as vintage and evolution bikes go. When we first started there were many classes and only a couple of modern support classes. Today it is the other way around; only one or two vintage with very few riders. This has been due to low turnout beacuse of parts breakage, especially for some the Euro bikes. It was so cool when we ran the mixed vintage classes! I was racing a mint 1981 RM 125 beside a very trick 79 or 80 Mugen, a 360 I believe. Many Maicos. Montesas, Ossa Phantoms, etc.......
Oh well good memories.

I'm in the motorhome now with the laptop heading for Barber's Vintage race. I would love to see some new "old" bikes to buy and race. I still like the modern bikes, but it sure is fun to ride the Elsinore 250. We just built a 74 CR125 to bring for the race.

I would definitely be all over a 1993 Honda CR250R replica. That bike ripped.

LOL LOL. and what are you trying to say? That the bikes these days are not as good as they used to be?

Some of us probably wouldn't disagree with that statement! Actually, we all know the bikes of today are better, just like a new Toyota is better than a Model A. But the old bikes are not lacking in character as the new ones are. The early to mid 70's would have up to twenty plus different brands of bikes on the line and every year was something to look forward to for advancements. Now, since 1989 we have gotten aluminum frames and four stroke motors. Not sure either of them are anything to celebrate. That's 20 years of not much at all. Did I forget fuel injection? That's right, Suzuki's whole year of 08 450's were shot down the toilet due to them trying to mass produce something that didn't work. New engines for everyone, bet that was a real moneymaker. I guarantee any of my old bikes will gather more of a crowd than any current offerings from the factory race teams. Yes I said factory race teams, not your dealers showroom floor. It's been proven before and not just by me. And my bikes don't have anything on all the "junk" Terry Good has in his basement.
