Personally, I'd like to see whatever penalty that is handed out be done so WITHOUT taking into consideration the riders relative position in the sport. Penalties should be even handed across the board with Rider A getting the same penalty as Rider B if the infraction is the same.

As for Stewart, personal opinion is that if this boils down to a situation where someone simply got the paper work screwed up, then the penalty should be very limited. Even assuming the worse scenario, Aderral should not be penalized to the same extent as other clearly PED.

The biggest questions I have is why it took so long to 1) get the results and 2) to get through the appeal process. At the rate it seems to be going, Riders can dope all they want at the end of their career and be long retired before anything is decided.

This is a press release that is handled with class, and admitting making a mistake.

IMO, it would be a travesty if prescribed adderrall was the demise of James Stewart.
Who proved it was prescribed?

I guess I just have enough common sense to assume that he didn't find some black market drug dealer to get something he could easily get from his doctor.

James said it was a prescription medication in a press statement a while back. I don't think he has to prove to us that he's not a liar.

If it is true that 1) all this stems from a medically prescribed drug (Adderall) 2) for a long-time condition, and 3) that a TUE would have been approved and avoided all this, then to me the the question should be: Why wasn't a TUE pursued by the Stewart camp?

If the answer is that is was due to ignorance of the TUE process, or a similar answer, then he should be given a strict warning, and put on probation for his team's failure to follow the proper procedure. He should still be allowed to race however, and clear the cloud that all of this has caused as quickly as possible.

If the items above were NOT in fact true, and it can be proven that this was an intentional effort at cheating through the use of PEDs, then he should receive the proper suspension, regardless of the consequences it has on his career.

Lacking that scenario, it seems to me that neither the sport, the fans, the promoters, the sponsors, nor the athlete himself are well served by any undue delays in moving forward past this incident.
I think this is the right approach.

Yep, most of these guys are letting their fan emotions out weigh racing by the rules, that's not good for the sport as a whole. The sport is bigger than ANY single rider, there are plenty of other up and coming riders to carry the torch.

That's true to a point ( where no single rider is more important than the sport ) but it would be a shame to see a top rider go out like this , and over something as dismal as a piece of paperwork. I mean .."IF" that is what is really going on , then not only James would get stiffed from possibly his last season....we as fans wouldn't have him out there racing. Even if some of us don't have James listed as our favorite rider.......nobody should ever hope to see a guy out like that. Weather he's a fan favorite or not......any of these top guys deserve to go out on their shield. Not held on the sidelines over something like this.

Over the past few years.....I myself have been hard on James ( mostly out of frustration ) But I'll be damned if I see someone get kicked out of this sport over something so damn small and stupid. We all lose out if he gets sidelined.

I'm pretty sure if it was just about a piece of paper, this would have been wrapped up a long time ago, think about it. And also, lets not forget Adderall is speed. We can all disagree on whether or not it enhanced his performance, but it's a banned substance. If it is found that he cheated, he's gonna have to deal with the consequences, even if it tarnishes his career.

What would be sufficient proof for you?

It's what I was told from multiple sources that I trust.

I've been dealing with some of the "personalities" here for better than ten years. In some cases I know they're fishing (which can be another name for dropping misinformation to see who takes the bait). Sometimes when I blast a comment like that, it's because I know they're muddying the waters by posting junk.

Jeez, have an extra beer. You're in Vegas. If you head there with the idea that you're going to have a bad time, you probably will.

At all the Vegas races I look at it as I went to a party and a race broke out. Smile

The guy said "I doubt it's because of prescription adderall"...which is also my opinion. Why else would it of taken this long??? I am of the opinion that it would be an atrocious decision to even take away a chance at winning a title (as in race suspensions) from James. He deserves to be punished for negligence and he should absolutely be fined for this and put on probation but he failed a drug test for prescription adderrall. He wasn't cheating and from what we know about James, he probably needs that medicine for his health
