Started drilling the second hole and didn't realize the drill was stepping out until it was too late. Now only half of the second hole is covered by the exhaust bridge. Please don't tell me I have to junk the piston..

Chamfer it and give it a try, and use Motul 800. Been getting excellent results meaning very minimal wear!

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the lack of mechanical terminology, what is "chamfer"?

Took a larger drill bit and using just my hand to spin it chamfered the holes (after a google search I'm pretty sure that's what you meant). The holes appear to be recessed enough with no burring and no contact when placed in the cylinder. I'm thinking half of the hole won't matter too much..

If you are worried about it, fill it with J B Weld, and make sure it does not stick out in contact with the bore, it will be fine.

Use an OEM piston next time and you wont have to worry about drilling holes.

Any exhaust bridge can use the additional oil, it's a hotspot. A proper relief of around .002 (bridge area) should be done when recoating the cylinder.

Get the correct OEM piston. Problem solved with no fucked up holes ...I do not think its huge issue but will require added lubrication from a great oil....I would serious consider buying the right or OEM piston to avoid issues down the toad, but that's just me.

The Wiseco is what came from Gorr. Not sure if I should run it or throw $100 away and drop another $100 on OEM..

You could always just put in a third hole in the correct location.

I would run it as JakesDad mentioned. I've drilled one of my 2 holes off center (rushing) and I put a bit of a chamfer on it and ran it. Didn't have an issue in my case.

Okay that's what I'll do. I'll even try to plug the back of the hole with a little JB. How can I tell if the holes are chamfered enough? There was definitely burring at first, but it looks/feels plush now but is there a way to get a little insurance?

Thanks for all the help, I like the tight fit of the Wiseco but I think I'll stick with OEM after this.

This is the OEM that was originally in it before I sent it off. I'd be tempted to just put it back in, but it's a B piston and I have an A cylinder.

I would not recommend trying to plug the hole with JB weld. If it came loose, you would have much bigger problems. Just run the Wiseco until it's time for a new piston. You will be losing a little secondary compression out that offset hole, but not enough to feel on the track. Next time run OEM.

I was just going to say the same as Camp. I would not trust that JB weld to stay put!

Okay thanks Cam and JHansen . I was actually thinking of the catastrophe that would result from the JB dropping out after I typed that. Gonna drill another hole later and run the Wiseco for max 20 hours.

I think you will be alright! Beats adding something that could fall into engine and cause further damage. Heat cycle and run that biotch! Congrats on the motor, let us know how she is!

Run it. But if it's going to something stuck in your head as we all have things that tend to do this to us. Change it for peace of mind.

Thanks all, I think it'll be good for a while. Got a third hole drilled in the correct spot. As you can tell, I used a regular hand held drill my first tries (anxious to get it together last night ) but today I used my grandpas drill press like a smart person woulda done in the first place. Should be good to go soon!

The bottom hole should be the cleanest, it was done with the drill press. The black mark is from the marker. I'm pretty sure all the holes are free of any burrs.

And yeah RM Rider, I agree it is sort of a pain. He also didn't send me two dowel pins and I'm virtually 100% positive I sent my cylinder with both.

This is the future, just wait. It's like nail polish for arm pump. You'll be doing it soon too.

I've done the J B weld on a friends bike, it's still going strong after 2 years...........also, in my opinion, the wiseco is a better piston in most cases. I seem to wear out an oem way sooner than a wiseco. Just my experience, that's all.

Update, got the piston on and the cylinder in place, started torquing down and noticed the top of the piston comes up above the height of the cylinder top. That can't be right, can it? I know there will be a head gasket, and the head has a bit of a groove for that clearance, but it seems odd.. wanted to check for some opinion here before I continued on.

Also, for last gen CR owners, how do you torque the bolt behind the RC cover? I don't remember how I did it the last time..
