I've ridden most tracks in Florida, all of them don't hold a candle to red bud. Idk if it was just this year, it was my first time. But the soil was very sandy and deeper then any Florida sand track I rode. Maybe the back sand track at north Florida mx but that didn't rut up. There were 20 lines in each turn 2 ft or more deep. By far the craziest shit I've ever ridden the braking bumps were insane. Florida has nothing on this place. Problem is we need rougher tracks, stop over grooming the tracks.

Can anyone remember the dunes race overseas they had a long time ago? I remember seeing pics in a mag, looked like they went out in the Sahara desert and put up some flags. Anyone remember this and have pics??

That is only an excuse. They added the Monster Energy Cup and everyone shows up. Now they added the RedBull straight away thing and even the 450 US National Champ (who chose not to race the MXdN) is showing up. Face the facts. Money is the only thing that motivates the US series riders.
Don't add another round. Get rid of Utah like they got rid of Pala, Freestone, & Lake Elsinore and replace it with a proper sand track. Also add a hard pack track. Ever see High Point during the ATV Nationals on TV? Leave the track like that! Pure rock hard blue groove. Diversity between tracks should be the focus. If not have them all at Red Bud and Millville like they do with sx in California.

Almost certain gopher dunes might be the or atleast one of the deepest sand tracks in NA

Care to elaborate on exactly what that means? "Prepping each track the same".

should they have the Amish out there tilling it with horses for a couple rounds? should they water it with seltzer water at one race?

You till it, and you water it, then you race on it. Not sure where that leaves room for variety.

Some of you dudes are so disconnected and permanently set in "complain" mode.
If DonM is who I think he is you need to try again.

All the track builders/owners haul in sand to get the right "mix".It holds water better and keeps dust down. Bullshit. Anyone that rode Hangtown 20 years ago knows it is a hard pack type track. I won't call the track cookie cutter but it seems the soil/dirt composition is very close. I've heard it's so it looks better on TV.
With that I think riders and teams get away from really having to figure out hard, soft sand or rocky tracks. Is there a real hard pack track left any where? How does anyone practice for that?

It would make the series better- i miss southwick. Would be GREAT to see a round in florida at a proper sand track, and to see more variation in the tracks in general.
Why should we? So we can be like the Euros?! All they race on is sand. Does it really matter if our guys don't perform as well for one freakin sand race?! Maybe they should add a couple of regular tracks with Larocco's leaps in them. C'mon, the MXoN is over, we need to get our focus back here.

No it wasn't near the beach and were in these huge dunes hundreds of feet tall, it was a racer x mag that had the pic, I believe it was about the time everts was going to yamaha 4 strokes if that helps (can't remember if he was in the race or not but I think he was).

I know you said it wasn't near a beach but Everts raced Weston Beach race a number of times.

nothing to do with 'being like the euros' or anything to do with the mxdn- in my opinion running a round at a sand track would add alot to the series, it takes a different skillset to be able to go fast in the sand. Makes it more interesting for the spectators, allows different riders to shine (ie john dowd at southwick) - mixes things up a bit.

get that euro hater chip off your shoulder- any moto fan would prefer to see at least one round at a sand track!

and for your information- your 'all they race is sand' comment is very stupid/ uninformed! there are only a couple of sand races next year (lommel, finland)

I just disagree. Everytime I see the euros, theyre all racing in sand. Wasn't the last several mxons in sand? Some of those are like beach races. I don't feel the US needs to add or worry about a sand race. There's no reason to.

got some rumors that southwick will get the action back in 2015. that are in the race to hoste a MXGP next year, love the sand

Be careful, the mx purists will be along shortly to tell you that a flat piece of land should never hold a national. I think it looks like a fantastic project and I'm sure it cost a pretty penny.
