Im watching pastrana's "revelation 199" video, and he shows he was in mxdn with ryno and Carmichael. Ive never seen or heard anyone talk about him being in the mxdn. I knew he did a bit of sx in his day, but never knew about mxdn. Just goes to show how much of a badass he is on a bike.

Believe it or not, Tarvis Pastrami was pretty good at SX.
Back in 06', I had an opportunity to attend a ride clinic for Full Circle Foundation at Cahuilla Creek MX here in Southern Cal. It was right after the Glen Helen National, so we were already all juiced up and wanting to ride. The event was organized by the "Professor", Gary Bailey and hosted by Red Bull. Gary purposely didn't allow the track workers to groom the track after the previous day's practice, so it was destroyed, just the way he likes it. The track was divided into sections, each section highlighting a critical riding technique and each section had a pro assigned to it. From starts to jumps, corners, ruts, you name it. The instructors were some of the best at the time...and ever.

So basically you geared up, and rode your bike to numbered sections and spent 30+ minutes with each pro, going over the right way to do stuff. 100% by far, my favorite section was Travis Pastrana. He was just a goofy, fun dude that was blowing all of our minds. It was this step down into a tight left hand 180 corner...he taught us to land front tire first, body postion, braking, clutch and exiting the corner. He verbally explained it, and asked someone to demonstrate for him. Then we all took turns doing it. I remember riding behind Victor Sheldon and thinking Holy FUK, this Jet-Skier dude is 100x more talented on a dirtbike then me and i've been riding my whole life! Anyway, before we all left his station/section, Travis fired up his bike and showed us all how to really do it. Needless to say, all of our jaws were in our lap. His speed defied physics.
The next station was Ricky Johnson and my last station was Jeremy McGrath...I still have a picture somewhere of him clapping in approval as I rode by him. He was teaching us how to ride through chop and when to sit vs. how long to stand before entering an off camber sweeper; this was one of the greatest moments on two-wheels for me
But here's the funny Pastrana story. We didn't know it, but we were pitted right next to him. He had some friends small, Toyota truck, so we would never guessed it was a Travis Pastrana level rider's truck. After the teaching was over, we were all encouraged to go free practice and ride the track. DUDE, i've raced the Adelanto GP 5-6 times, and I've been Race #15 at a full day of Vet Nationals at Glen Helen, so after 28 race motos have gone already, but this Cahuilla track was far more destroyed then anything iv'e ever rode before. Super great guy and Paraplegic star Ricky James was out there and wadded up pretty hard on the rough track. I suffered through 3-4 laps and pulled in. When I got to my rig, I arrived just in time to see Pastrana literally throw his helmet off and into the back of the truck, he was freaking pissed! The Ricky James accident brought a lot of attention to the track conditions and Travis looked right at me and said "THAT is without a doubt, the WORST-TRACK-I-HAVE-EVER-RIDDEN!! Someone is going to die out there!" --- Then i'll never forget. He paused for a moment, being perfectly still and staring down, then suddenly shrugged his shoulders and said "OH Well!" and with a huge grin on his face gave me that patented thumbs up and walked over to the Red Bull tent. I was cracking up, and a HUGE fan since. My wife got a pic with him 10 minutes later, happy as a clam, such a cool dude.

Hope you enjoyed the story, I don't get to tell it often enough.

I think he is one of the most talented dirt bike riders, overall, the world has ever seen.
One of the friendliest rivalries of all time, him and Roncada. Travis ran stickers promoting RonRons website, whilst battling him for the championship.
