Of course a win is never guaranteed. But, if the "plan" was merely to compete, why not do it in a gender neutral class?
I can't speak to what her agenda was...or if there was one.

I passed along some news that I learned yesterday. I also try to keep the peace here. I guess that's my agenda.

What's yours?

It's a strange world we're living in. You can't race a mod bike in the stock classes at LL's but you can be a grown man, mutilate your body and race against teenage girls. You gotta love it! DC is going to have to add a bunch of classes in the future.

The most disgusting part of all this? Some of the threats (veiled and not-so-veiled) that people have tossed around here. A couple of those people can now watch from the sidelines. We won't be a happy harbor of hate speech or harassment.

As I understand it, the AMA initially disqualified the rider in question, and replaced her with another rider. But after doing more research, it was discovered that they had erred from a legal standpoint. That's why you now have 43 finalists.

From Wikipedia...
"In the United States, classifying a person's sex as male or female is a power which is left to the jurisdiction of the states. As is the case throughout the world, the degree to which a given state recognizes a transsexual person as his or her desired sex varies and is dependent on factors such as the "steps" the person has taken in his or her transition, such as psychological therapy, hormone therapy, and sex reassignment surgery (SRS)."

From what I've been told, getting a new birth certificate in her state is not an easy or simple process, and that it'd satisfy even the most most strict interpretation of what what required for gender reassignment.

And one final note. Much has been made of muscle mass. As noted here (http://www.transgendercare.com/medical/resources/tmf_program/tmf_progra…), "A good deal of the size that is normally attributed to large or broad shoulders, arms and chest is actually contained in upper body muscle mass—not bones. Through the process of feminization much of the upper body bulk will disappear."

If we're going to have a discussion on this, let's at least make it a rational one.
I think it's pretty rational to say if you were born with a penis you aren't a woman........................(did you really type "happy harbor of hate speech or harassment"?)..........................

The women may take care of this themselves...you know the ones that put in all the work and money to get there. There may a few that can/will take care of things on the track, Just like the guys do. Someone might suggest to their daughter that if she should come up on this person on the track, to make sure that this person gets a little lesson on how a proper t bone is administered. Enough gals do this and a message that can't be ignored may be sent. Of course I don't condone this behavior in any way, just talking here.....there's probably not a female racer on the line thats going to pass this person and not give a little extra love tap. Who knows.....

This stuff makes me wonder what kind of society we will be in 20 years..........everyone is special and needs to have their feelings validated right now. Not everyone can be a pussy in society can they? My god there has to be some mature, self thinkers, that don't need someone that knows nothing about them making decisions for them. Way to many people think they deserve anything they want right now, because they are special. I don't care for lazy, self absorbed, assholes that give nothing , and take everything. I realize this is a little off topic.....sorry,,

I applaud your removal of threats, etc. Unfortunately, this seems to be something that is just going to have to be gone through to figure out the right answer to many of the comments posted here. In any event I am certain the rider in question didn't go through this just for LL purposes.

Your Wikipedia source addresses some of the questions presented. It does not say how long the process takes, nor, does it say it will all disappear. I don't make this comment other than to observe that there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer. Rightly or wrongly, the legal system seems to have imposed the rule.

I doubt we have enough history or data to really answer the question regarding gender reassignment having an advantage in MX. Aside from the issue of muscle mass, there are also many other developmental differences between the sexes starting in vitro on. Since the real focus of all of this is to insure a level playing field in the various classes, non gender classes are probably something to be seriously looked at.

The reality of all this, is that regardless of the way it plays out, the results will always be in question. The rider in question is basically in a no win situation. Obviously, the hormone therapy has had some effect on muscle mass making it difficult to meaningfully compete in the other classes and yet regardless of outcome the rider will be subject to criticism for participating in the women's class. I suspect it is not the first time the rider has faced this or other similar dilemmas

Just some thoughts . . . . I sure don't have a good answer to this one anymore than having an answer to the wisdom of doing everything science is capable of.

Jesus christ I cant believe this is still a freeking issue.

I mean, if the dude/chick is still winning local A races then obviously he/she isnt losing any of the physical advantages he/she/it was born with.

Why does everything have to be so damn PC? Maybe the dude/chick didnt get the sex change so he/she could win at LL's, but obviously he/she is still benefiting from it.

Maybe Ill go to LL's and race the 50'cc class because my friends say I act like a 5 year old. I mean sometimes I feel like a 5 year old, and if you oppress me with your age-ism Ill petition the race and hold a rally with all my fellow 25 year old 5 year olds.

That'll show em

They let a Tranny fight women in MMA. So I would not be surprised to see her on the line.

I posted this topic on my Facebook asking what people thought about it, I was really surprised at how many folks that are going to the national had no idea. I have close to 4k friends/followers and needless to say I almost started an internet riot. It got out of hand fast lol. But like most topics when people don't agree it turned into you "intolerant blah blah blah" I ended up deleting it whith about 20 people.

One thing I find weird about that article GuyB is, they are determining levels by how many steps they are in to. Now if for some reason said person is dead and had to be identified thru DNA it would come back male or female accordingly. You can't change the genetics, you can only put a new dress on it so to speak.

For years I tried to register for the Women's Junior (under 16), Clydesdale (over 200lbs) class at the mountain bike races and they never let me for some reason.

Maybe I should dust off the MTB and give it a try in these here modern times. I'll bet I could podium!

What I don't understand is all the pro women who want to try and qualify in the men pro classes, but we have the complete opposite train of thought here. Women are always wanting equality and fair rights, but this "woman" is using the "female" card to her benefit. If "she" really wanted to stand up for being a woman racer she would show those men how it's done right?

I want my cake and eat it the way I want also.

This person in question is built more like a man than a woman. I posted this before. Earlier this year, my son was riding at a Wis track and David, Daniel, Danielle was there riding. Damn fast and good form, but it's a guys form. I've seen Jessica Patterson ride in person, the person in question ride in person, and a local lady that is pretty darn fast in her own right, Kirsten Raemisch. Kirsten and this person are pretty close in speed, but this person is built like a man and throws the bike around like a man. Maybe Jessica and Kirsten can throw it around like that, but I've never seen it.
Basically, I think you should be racing the gender class you were born with until you reach the age specific classes. Born a male, you should NEVER be able to race any Women's specific class. It all goes back to the hormones. If a post-op cuts back on the hormones, the male testosterone will kick back in, thus increasing the ability to build muscle mass, unlike a naturally born female.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if none of the other 42 women even showed up at the line.

The other 42 not showing up would be probably the best way to handle the situation. He/she is openly cheating and getting away with it because "waaah my feelings"

You know what the most effed up thing is?

James Stewart, who has done so much for the sport in terms of riding abilities, being a role model for black riders, contributing to youth development with his schools, gets banned from supercross for taking a doctor prescribed medication (whether or not it was performance enhancing is up to you), and some transgender dude/chick is completely fine to openly cheat because of how he/she/it "feels" it was born.

Friggin madness man, madness.

Yes I want to see a Kaitlyn sweep as well.
She just may beat him straight up, but we will see.
I know that Danielle's entry has been protested from the first day of qualifiers for LL's and still is entered. At one point last week that name was dropped from the entry roster and now it's back in place.

I did not intend to post again but the comments on here are ridiculous about how men have so much more talent or natural ability than women. Danielle has exposed the real problem in our sport, men actually think they are better than females and most ignorant ones talk the loudest. The other 42 girls should champion this opportunity, and welcome Danielle into the class. Given the right opportunity and chance girls will be as fast as anyone else on the track. You could question the logic of having 14yr olds race against Pro women in their mid-20’s and bike sizes ranging from 112 to 250 in this class?? Danielle’s (and several others in the class) real advantage is a 250 2-T lining up against superminis, not gender, not Danielle's entry into the class. Either way the women should not boycott, they need to go out and race hard, show the world why they deserve equal treatment, equal sponsorship and a better class structure. Ms. West's entry has also exposed that gender basis, is discrimination plain and simple. No laws or rules have been broke here. I'm sure she never intended to be a trailblazer, but it's clear to see why we needs laws in this area.

As Guy B has pointed there is no guarantee Danielle will win. Sounds like she’s already the LL champ according to you guys (and gals), I’ll bet Ms., Tricker, Markelon, Felicio and Hodges will have something to say about that.

Sounds like the most epic class this year at the Ranch won’t be the Pro Sport, B, 25+ or one with an old Honda in it…2014 is all about the Women Class, for that I thank you Danielle.

Good luck to all of you in the Womens Class.

Did you see the first post of this tread? It was a fellow woman racing the class at Loretta's doing the complaining as well and I'm sure several others obviously with the protesting feel the same way. For me, I started this about 43 riders on the gate. Mr. West has more issues personally in my opinion than racing Loretta's.

I dont know if youre retarded, high, or just stirring the pot. Women arent even close to as good as men in pretty much any sport. Not being sexist, just being realidtic. A good high school boys basketball team will destroy a WNBA team all day long, same goes for hockey, soccer, any sport really.

You are on something my friend.

He is obviously casting a big lure- Look what happens every time a girl tries to qualify for LL in a "boys" class, IF they make it to LL they are a gate-filler at best (except Fiolek but she was the exception, certainly not the rule) EDIT: I add Hodges to that list, because she has certainly shown she can hold her own against boys her age (though once the male 85 riders hit puberty that may all change)
