I have heard that there's a chance he will ride for team USA at the des nations this year.

Is this even possible?

Anyone else hear anything on this?

Does he have citizenship? I don't see him riding for the US even if he did. He seemed really proud to represent his country last year, which is awesome.

I figured this was the best place to find more info on it. When you think about it, he's purchased cars here, a house and works here. My best bet is that he has duel citizenship.

I wouldn't be surprised if he lines up sporting the red, white and blue. In all seriousness America has given him so much more than Germany ever could.

Will you provide some examples? I understand if a rider is born in another country, parent from another country, rider with dual citizenship and things of that nature. But I don't know of any that rode for other countries with no actual ties (aside from the Puerto Rico situation)

Well, you Euros like to make it GP's vs. AMA. So like it or not, he is already ours. Even if Roczen wins the Des nations, you euros will still call it a win for yourselves when in reality KR is ALL AMA. Back on topic, KR will ride for Germany. He's proud of where he comes from.

The last person I know of to do it was Dean Wilson. He rode for Canada as an amateur then the UK as a pro.

That being said you will not see KRoc racing for anyone but Germany.

I think you have to be a citizen of the country you ride for. I'm guessing KRoc is not a US citizen.

HA! Please don't lump all of us yanks in with this chum.

Billy Liles raced for Luxemburg I believe. Where you have your license makes a difference maybe? On paper and theoretically, it could be possible. In reality, there is zero chance of this happening. Still, 'Give me your tired, your poor. Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,,,,,' Translation,,,,, 'Come on gp racers, you can make money for yourselves and, pick up good looking chicks!'

He will ride for Germany. It would be an insult to Germany if he rode for USA. My guess is Roczen is either on a work visa or a resident. It takes years to get citizenship, even if he got married to a US citizen. That said, Tomac and Canard could have a good chance there.

Good call on Liles... and he wasn't the only one..

Here's a cool footnote from the 1989 Motocross des Nations: American-born riders swept both first and second spots in the last two motos, with Michigan's Stanton leading the way. But Billy Liles (born in Georgia but riding for Luxembourg) and Trampas Parker (born in Louisiana but riding for Italy) each had runner-up rides, showing just how dominant U.S. motocross was at the time.

So I just learned that us Aussies are European. Fuck, this place gets dumber by the day...
7/8/2014 7:21am
The team is managed by a Belgian so having a rider who was born in another country isn't any different. I am sure he wants to and will continue to live here after his racing days are done so it is not that far fetched.

Aussies, as well as most South Americans, white South Africans and French Canadians are considered Euros.

Pretty sure Villopoto will be on team France next year since he is going to race for a french team and live in France in 2015.

yea, but Villopoto speaks English so he's going to ride for Team GB.... plus Tommy Searle rides Kawasaki, and he's British so there is that connection as well
