I just have knowledge from a fan/spectator perspective. The barriers/tables were a non-verbalized red flag that told me..."this side is ours...that side is yours." I wanted a perspective from the only member of the moto media that I have "semi" access to. Are journalists just allowed "free range"? I'm not really trying to weigh in on ANY side of this farce. Just something I wondered about.

Most of the regular photogs and news people spend a lot of time with the Teams unless there is a problem it's about like visiting friends you don't need an invitation to walk in their pits.

Tony comes off as a idiot for vocalizing it, but the truth is he ain't saying anything most in pits dont agree with.

Hardly.

The relationship between this sport and its media is contentious. And that is putting it mildly.

The guy whom is most disliked? Take a guess.

The guys who are halfway respected... They play ball and dont have a agenda other than to promote the sport in a positive manner.

This sports best "journalists" are somewhat neutered by the very nature of the way this sport operates. It is what it is.

An exception to the rule is GuyB actually. Not disliked, but go figure, he's about as nice a guy you'll meet in this sport as you can find. The teams hate Vital yet they respect GuyB. See how that works? Its never personal.

Whereas the same person is constantly up in the business of some TMZ type shit. Which wouldn't be nearly as comical if he didn't claim it was in the name of "journalism". Everyone sees right thru the BS. Once there is a agenda, you're no longer a journalist. Youre a hater. And furthermore, we all got skeletons in our closet. The media person in question is no exception.

If I drank coffee I would have spit up on my computer several times during this thread. Belly Laughs. My eyes usually cross by the second page of threads here but... What a way to waste time on a non-moto weekend day. THANKS TONY!

You know, if Matthes would quit stirring Tony up he would probably not have as many meltdowns. It's like he's sees Matthes comin and immediately starts schitzing out.

Now Tony....he could use some hugs and probably drugs.

If Tony thinks the guy is out to get him, just calmly tell him he is not able to interview his riders (like Genova did earlier in the year, then talked it though with Steve and got them back on the program),

Sorry if I came across as approving of any contract or Tonys actions....far from that. It's just sad that anyone other than those two know about it thanks to a childish tweet

We seriously need to drug test the MX/SX team personnel and the MX/SX journalist types..............Tony Allesi and Steve Matthes should both be first.
Next to nobody would pass a test.

Yes, 99% of the paddock comes onto his show because they hate him. I understand that you may not like him but you are projecting your opinion onto hundreds of people and incorrectly at that.

It's hilarious that you want the media to sign a contract saying that your team has final say over editorial..it's amazing you would think this was cool but then the provision where the media guy can't tell anyone he signed it? Let's just humor that and say that this was somehow normal...you don't have a second copy for the media guy to take for his records?

If you're trying to be sneaky and underhanded by not giving someone a copy of what they sign AND you're trying to say that said person can't tell anyone about what they signed--well, in my opinion, you deserve to get called out for all the world to see.

More people should call out complete bullshit when it happens...maybe then there would be less bullshit in the world?
I have a hard time believing this "agreement" from Tony is actually true since the document is still intact.

Typically when Matthes is presented with a contract or agreement it's destroyed when he washes it in his cargo shorts.

You're so contradictory is not even funny. You're telling Matthes to walk away and in the next sentence, you're telling him to stand up to Tony. There are essentially 2 types of people in this situation, passive and aggressive. Aggressive person punches Tony in the mouth not for the contract, but for the straight disrespect. A passive person walks away and says no thanks, which is EXACTLY what Matthes did. Tony stalked him and started the trash talk and insults to Matthes. Now, when a passive person had has enough and wants to defend or fight back, 99% of the time, it's in a manner similar to this where they exploit that person and their actions pubicly. Matthes putting this out there is = to an aggressive person punching Tony in the mouth.

I would bet everything I have have that if Tony had been polite and respectful with ANY request of Matthes, he would have responded in kind. Honestly, do you think Matthes tweeted this to get publicity or he did it because he was fed up with Tony's actions/words/attitude and was fighting back? It's the same as an aggressive person getting physical, here, a passive person used his mind and his wits to fight back. Let me sum this up for you......Me=aggressive, if you come at me cursing, insulting and threatening, I'm going to fight you. Matthes=passive, if you come at him cursing, insulting, threatening, he's going to embarrass you, exploit you, out smart you or beat you at your own game so to speak.

Finally, why does Tony have such a hard on for Matthes and not your hero DC? Coombs handed down the stiff penalties for lazer gate, DC confronted Tony and didnt back down both at Washougal and after. DC even commented here and in print about that and he's put out several other statements on Vital about other controversial topics like GH, how is this any different? Matthes first reported lazer gate which turned out to be 100% true and Tony has had it out for him ever since, why is it OK for Tony to scream and fight in the manner he chooses, but Matthes cant defend himself in the manner he chooses? Can you say double standard.

Try to condense your fucking novel into an appropriate message board response.

example: "hey KennyT....go fuck yourself"
Now that I can respect. Nobody has time for that other shit.

why does someone have to be unbiased while dealing with tony? what respect does steve have to tony. TA is a shitshow and everyone in the industry knows it. nowhere did steve bias mike...like has been said 10x but you keep ignoring it...mikes been doing interviews and the show and everything has been fine.

heres the nutshell. mike didn't win, steve came over to get podcast and tony was pissed off about it and went full retard with steve. where does one HAVE to be unbiased in reporting what happened.

No, I'm being objective of whether or not the majority of the paddock likes him. It's irrelevant if I like him or not. When people don't like someone, they generally don't chit chat with said person on track walk, riders meetings, after the races, on his own radio show etc. Saying that he is generally disliked in the pits is a bit laughable to me and I would suspect you get the same answer if you ask around. I don't take offense, if I thought people didn't like him, I wouldn't shy away from that. There are people that would fall into this category but Matthes isn't one.

Still trying to understand why Matthes would travel to see Alessi. Is the Canadian National scene something Steve enjoys reporting on and has done it in past years? If not, was he there to print a positive viewpoint of Alessi's Team? If not, he was there just to fuck around and Tony saw thru the bull shit.

I'm Canadian, I go to a race or two almost every year. Because I enjoy it, it costs me money out of my pocket to go but I usually enjoy it. This trip, because of the horrendous conditions, not so much.
Steve, I pay money out of my pocket too. Track conditions up there did look bad. I guess I just don't twitter because someone tells me to go fuck myself. Tony's hand written "contract" appears that it is targeted towards you. Maybe you didn't take it that way. I don't know if I would have been "shocked" by his comments towards you. You won the war when you kept the piece of paper and I would have kept it too. If your goal was to additionally embarrass him I am sure this goal was reached too. I believe the Alessi's are racing the Canadian Nationals to avoid bad publicity and writing stories about the actions of Tony is good fodder. Maybe Tony deserves this negative publicity. Maybe it didn't need to be reported at all. That's your right. Unfortunately, it also falls on Mike Alessi.....Putting your incident with Tony aside, how was Mike riding considering the conditions?

So you're saying you view Matthes as a responsible, professional journalist? What responsible, professional journalist handles a situation like this in the way Matthes did? He could have said these were the terms of the interview and I didn't agree with them.....not make a mockery of the situation and make statements such as Tony had another meltdown and generate 10 pages of circus.

Dear someone in the Alessi family or Motoconcepts, That's exactly what I did. I laughed, realized he was serious, said I wasn't signing the "contract" and proceeded to walk away. End of story...EXCEPT Tony asked for the contract back (and again, shouldn't I get to keep a copy of this underhanded attempt to control media? Why was there something in there that said I couldn't tell anyone I signed this? Pretty shady no?) and I said I would have to look it over and walked away.

And that is when he exploded, calling me a mother fucker, saying I'm not "protected" in Canada, asking me if I wanted to "go", some more Mother fuckers, telling me that no one likes me, etc etc. And he was yelling all this.

Once presented with the terms, I refused and walked away with my "contract" to review...then he, once again, became very unprofessional and an incredible asshole. This is on him. I posted it, (like I said in the other post) because when people are bullies and a-holes, they need to be called out on it. Maybe next time, he thinks a little bit harder.

You can try and defend yourself all you want. Be a man and stand up to Tonys childish outburst and tell him what you think of his paper to his face....or are you intimidated by a profanity spewing guy that may top out at 5' 4" if he's wearing fuck me pumps? Running off like a little butthurt baby and tweeting this bullshit makes you no better than the guy you were trying to make a fool of. Until you opened your gossiping mouth to the internet masses the only people that would have known about this are you and Tony. It's up to you to show who the adult was in this childish situation and you failed. Like I said before, if this took place between Tony and DC I can guarantee you it would have never made twitter. Act your age, be professional, and maybe you will get a few more followers other than the drama desiring kids that listen to you now
Poor comparison with DC. He is a series promoter/organiser, of course he's not going to run to twitter or anywhere else.

Matthes is a reporter, he reports on MX news and events.

Unfortunately moto journalists can't seem to win. I read post after post on here about the moto insiders sweeping things under the rug and everything being such a big secret. A guy posts just the stuff people are always wanting to know about and bam he's nailed for not sweeping it under the rug.

Steve "reported" it on Twitter. Thats about the level it deserves. He didnt write a column about it or interview other teams that witnessed the tet a ta. Just Twitter.

And really, what this is is more evidence to those that have dealt with Tony over years to verify that hes an odd duck at best and certainly difficult to deal with.

This whole deal amuses me. And this thread gave JT$ to opportunity to once again use the term "paddock"Smile
