Roczen and Baker mean business

Edited Date/Time 6/3/2014 4:10pm
I was watching Roczen get ready for his interview after the races yesterday and noticed his (I assume) girlfriend, the blonde, really pretty girl. She takes the helmet, wipes the face, hands him the water, uh, "Red Bull", holds the bike, checks the teeth...it looked like a Nascar pit stop. DIdn't say a word, just got it done. She had it DOWN.

Aldon Baker is such a badass that he even trains the girlfriend. If Roczen wins a hot race this year, or even gets second, I think he'll win the title. I hope he does. And after he gets his picture taken with the #1 plate and, above all else, thanks Aldon, THEN I hope he goes to Chipotle on his way to the beach to go surfing...

I remember, way back in the day, DeCoster talking about factory CZ measuring tires and saying, "2 more races, boys, then we change them". I wonder if he ever envisioned a day when motocross would be this kind of commitment, when even the girlfriend had her job to do at the races and executed it perfectly. We all remember the "good old days"; well, I was there and they had their charm, but they weren't that great.

Only 10 more races, Kenny, then you go surfing.

You seem to forget that he is a world champ. Also, over a decade as a Fox sponsored rider. How long has he been with Red Bull? The young man has been quite polished long before ever coming into contact with Aldon Baker.

As far as his fitness and riding abilities, after watching him on a 250F at altidude on the side of a mountain lay waste to the best in the world on 450's......well, I don't think I'm the one missing the point.

The girlfriend, she understands the limited lifespan of a career in this sport. She also knows the effect of the professional athlete tax. Maybe, just maybe she might just be the one that put all those things into place that you are so quick to give Baker credit for. But don't let me rain on your cool story.

It is surprising that he is leaving KTM when things seem to be going so well. Hopefully the new team won't be a let down to him.

It's suprising people don't understand these guys do this for a living and someone else may have given a better offer with equal equipment.

Kenny does not need KTM anymore. And KTM doesn not need Kenny anymore. Both are successful at their trip over the pond.

So Sam....what ever happened to not wanting any association w/ this website? and then some threat of legal action.

Its hilarious what some people around here think of you, the PM's and emails started coming in the day you signed up.

I didn't see it on TV. But if she was in a KTM team shirt, that might have been Stephanie, Red Bull KTM's team PR coordinator.

That's awesome and hilarious! Thanks for bringing it up because it makes my day.

The threat of legal action is such a bitch move, but completely expected from the source.
If things don't go his way he is ready to ban, sue, whatever it takes.

I would love to read some of those emails, Scottie.
I guess I'm not the only one that feels that way, even tho I never sent an email.

No, this was his girlfriend, not Stephanie. It was pretty cool seeing how those two work together. They looked so professional and ready, really neat to see. I'm really happy for him.

It is sometimes even like that in the corporate world. Total commitment from all the pieces of the puzzle to be at 100%. (or 100 hours a week)

Remember a few years ago how he was complaining to Reed how hot it was at the Daytona SX?

His adaptation to U.S. motocross has made quite a bit of progress.

Maybe moving to Shorty's place in Texas for a while helped with the heat. Good stuff though, K Roc is a sponsors dream. Met him and his girlfriend at the Fox 77 Team reunion last year. Good times with great people.

Seems like several of the top riders are proving the old saying "behind every great man is a great woman". Ryan Dungey, Ken Roczen, Trey Canard, Andrew Short, Chad Reed, Marvin Musquin, Jimmy Albertson, Josh Grant, Ryan Villopoto, Mike Alessi...just name a few that come to mind, have wives/girlfriends/fiances that are much more high profile along side their professional rider husbands/boyfriends/fiances than any other time I can remember. Most are at the podium to do as the OP saw...making sure their mates are camera-ready and refreshed, while some are less a part of that and are back at the team semi to encourage and "be there" for them when they pull in.

There will always be "track snacks", and girls that hang around the pit area just to be around the younger riders...and there will always be riders who like that kind of girlfriend-at-every-race deal too. But, it seems like the guys who really have their acts together on the track, seem to have their acts together at home too.
