If that suzuki has any stock traits, she's a twitchy broad.

Did they actually say that? I must have missed it. That is moronic. James was doing the best he could today.

Uh...he has been living in Laguna Beach about 1/3 the time...and he has been riding mainly in S. CA.....Sames tracks as all the other guys.

Did anyone replay the moto 2 start? Mookie bumped Trey who bumped James who then took a sharp right and had to plant the right foot pretty hard. Hope he didn't tweak his knee, but that might explain what seemed like a conservative ride from JS.

pure speculation here

I have been following Supercross and motocross since 1993. I have never seen a rider struggle with their bike set-up like JS7. Which I don't think that's the problem. It's online suspension gurus that has his set-up way off. How can one of the top MX teams in the world be misssing suspension set-up so bad? I believe his drive isn't what it once was.
Hey.... That's OK it happens.

No, they didn't say that - or that's not what they were trying to convey. I guess some people hear what they want to hear. They essentially were saying James told them his goal for GH "was to get through the weekend" - and they said he was riding conservative. They were inferring that James looked like he was playing it smart and not hanging it out as far as he could have and just finish the race and still be in the points battle. It was also my understanding from the announcers comments was that with no RV in the championship and it being a deep field with a lot of racing left, why panic if you don't get the perfect start, hang it out on the ragged edge and crash out of the first race? In my opinion, they were just inferring that JS7 could have pushed it harder than he typically does, but obviously wasn't. I specifically recall Langston talking in the second moto about JS7 not getting a good start but after 1-2 laps he had made a BUNCH of passes to move up in the field. So it wasn't all negative. Again, I think some people hear what they want to hear.

They just said he was playing it conservative and "get through the weekend" (per James' comments).

James is going to be fine and will be in the mix for the championship.

Exactly! !^^

Sorry, but a rider of his and his teams caliber shouldn't need the excuses of bike and bike setup with all they have in money and unlimited resources. James just got beat by riders that were better than he was yesterday! That's it! Period, end of story.

Maybe he just didn't like the track...and psychologically that slowed him down a little and kept him safe......good move!
Maybe hes just adjusting to being off the PEDs ..who knows??
Maybe his mommy didn't pack his lucky underwear..??

Its not like he wasn't at GH in the weeks before the race testing setups and tires.

He was visibly unhappy with the bike after Moto 1

Back to the bike excuse again I see....Laughing

When you shift your focus from moto to tv bad things happen.

I guess nobody read what TbonesPop posted, that's exactly what GL said..He never said his bike setup was off, just that didn't care if he won or not, he wanted to make it out in one piece...

Making it out in 1 piece is fine, but 6-6 finishes are going to put him in a massive hole real quick!

Good post. I agree. James knows it's a long season, and you have to be in it to win it...but you can throw away a season trying to push it too early. He'll be fine.

BTW...ain't it funny, that if James is winning everybody loves him...but if he's not doing that right away, all the haters come out in full force around here?

Gnarly track, fast guys, poor starts=tough day. Sure beats going ballistic to try and win and finish with zero points after the first round. Took what he could and moved on. Good job I say..

James has learned from experience that the "wreckers or checkers" strategy wont get him to the end of the season.
He needs to finish the season to have any chance at the championship. It's just too bad that it took him so long to
change his strategy. I was convinced a few years ago that the sun was setting on his career. In the recent past
his change in patience has changed my opinion of his ability to win another championship. He seems to understand
that he doesn't need to win every race, and for the announcers to make a comment about that isn't an excuse for
where he will finish in the race, but rather a compliment to a seasoned racer that has the bigger picture in mind.

Stewart had a very good setup most this SX season. I believe (mostly as GL stated) he was going for the RD approach and build to the end where he can out race the field including RD. I'm surprised most by Ryan's will to take that win, especially after pacing KR for 20 + min only to loose ground with the lappers. Ryan hung it out ala Bubba esc. He's put the pressure on James ( and others ) to get after it in Hangtown. Looking forward to the fun and those Sun Tootsies.

I think a lot of that is their riding posture. RV rides in a different position almost like he's bent over at the waist and keeping his chest close to the handle bars. where it seems like js likes to sit upright more. The bike is probably set up for that also.

I think like GL said just make it threw the race and 6 overall is not horrible. He got points unlike the start of SX this year where he dnfed A1. So I think he just wanted to come out with points! And like someone said he is messing with our head.

I'm not sure if anyone else remembers this but back in 04 James said he absolutely hates glen Helen and said he wouldn't have even been racing if Kawi didn't let him use the new 250f. I think it was in a perris raceway transworld video from that time. I feel old.

So,,,, Dungey is a limp wristed girly boy since he 'normally' takes a more calculated approach but, when James takes a similar strategy, he's just being smart. I dig it.

Some of you act like it's a walk in the park to set a bike up properly at the level that these guys race at. James did get beat but if you think that bike set up doesn't become a factor at the level these guys race at, then you're not very smart.

Wasn't there a recent ruling here that you can't have an opinion or post about it if you do?

I'll play it safe……

He didn't look great but he didn't look bad.

His bike set up might not be right but it might be.

He played it smart by not being dumb but playing it dumb might have been smart.

He may or may not use PED.
