With all the hype surrounding the almighty return of Christolphe Pourcel to American motocross...he didn't impress much. Wonder if it was the bike, the track...he just wasn't "feelin it" or what?

I just don't understand why he went back to 250s! He should be riding with the big boys.

Seems it just wasn't "easy pickins" in the 250 class like maybe he thought. I was expecting more & I'm sure Kehoe was too.

Watching in person, it was a mix of racing rust and not wanting to do anything he wasn't 100% comfortable with on that track. . I expect that he will get a lot better pretty quickly.

I thought he had a really solid day for a come back ride. He showed more speed in practice than i expected to see and he finished both motos. He is in better shape the 2 or 3 of the other contenders are right now

There's sure no doubt that CP can run with anybody...and can probably beat most anybody when things are clicking for him. Not being a hater at all...and unfortunately all I could see was the broadcast video (thanks OC Scottie!), but from my limited view I was just surprised at his finish.

Good ride. There had to be a ton of pressure on him. Track was gnarly, he was rusty, etc. Give it 3-4 rounds. Those yamis looked Pppppplush though.

Solid ride for first race back and on an easy track to make big mistakes (Wilson).

He's in a good spot after round one.

His lines were Classic-Christophe and he carded a 7-5 for 5th over-all.

His 1st race on a new bike and under a new program that seems to be VERY "R&D"; so, I'd say he did pretty dam good.

On the down-side: I noticed he was 3-4 seconds a lap off of the fastest guys during the 2nd Moto (that track was EVIL in their 2nd Moto...EVIL).

I'm guessing he'll get faster as the season gets going and there will be a few tracks where he shreds.

He DID look REALLY GOOD & SMOOTH on the bike.

He's amazing to watch.

5th overall in his first race back in a long time isnt a bad result- yes, hes obviously capable of alot better results than that- but he's still in the championship hunt! I think he will improve at each round and be consistently on the podium all season after the first few rounds with a few wins aswel. I would expect the same from Baggett and Musquin too- steady first round for all 3 of them but they should all be in the championship hunt when we get to the business end of the season...

there will be alot of different moto winners in the 250 class this year in my opinion! will make it very interesting

I wouldn't say it was a 'steady' first round for Musquin, he was waaaaay off the pace! He finished a minute back in the first moto and almost a minute and a half behined in the 2nd moto.

He has a lot of catching up to do.

he did well to say hes coming back from injury and dislocated his shoulder in practice! probably exceeded his expectations. Really impressive ride to even finish after dislocating his shoulder in practice, nevermind top 10!

why didnt he take a parade lap and on a day like today is that little fan he has on his handlebars really helping that much with cooling him down?

What did the announcers say? you cannot win the championship at the first race, but you can lose it....I don't like him, but he rode smart and stayed healthy....

Hype? There were more haters than champions - he rode great. If his heart is in it, he will contend.

Like many others i really like pourcel's riding style. What does he actually do that is so different from the other riders?
I watch him and to me he and his style looks so different from the most of the riders but I cant really say or understand what he actually does different on the bike. . Is it just me? :p

Remember ... CP is not going to ride over his head and risk a serious injury. He has stated that.

I think this first round back allowed him to gauge the competition ( who are mostly new to him ) and learn the new bike. He will adjust and quickly learn who the top guys are and how they ride. Does anyone know if he has done any serious racing since we last saw him in the GP series?

Also, being Glen Helen with those horsepower hills, who knows if his motor was on par with Geico or PC. He looked OK drag racing the others up the hills but its a new bike / team with zero setup history to fall back on. I would give him another round or two to adjust bike setup and his own fitness. I'd say it was a decent result although he got a gift in moto 2 with Wilson and Anderson hitting the deck.

Mattis - when watching CP watch his line choices. He will take lines no one else tries and has the technique to make them work. I didn't see him doing that much with line choices at GH but let him get more comfortable and then we should see it. Also, he rides very calm on the bike and you won't see the big effort of muscling the bike that you see on some of the other top guys. He really is very Bayle-like.
