I know you permanent Cali guys see this stuff all the time, but living in the NW, well we don't. Occasional trips down to ride are always more fun when you see cool moto stuff at the tracks. A few things of interest from today's thur practice at Glen Helen.
People have been asking about Pourcel, he was there. Didn't really see him ride hard at all today, but he did put in a lot of laps. And yep he is still wearing that funky UFO gear.
I Got to say hi to McGrath, the king. He was testing Honda stuff with a bunch of Honda techs. I always liked that guy and today just reaffirmed that. He was surrounded by techs but I still saw him changing a rear tire himself, what a bad ass.
Mike Sleeter was there hauling ass of course on a stock looking KTM. Well when I looked closer it was a new generation bike done up to look like a 14. New frame and motor, and yes it's still a steal frame thank god. Frame looked similar but shaped a lot different, I know I was sitting on my 14 looking at his and noting the major differences. Air box was totally different, and the starter and cases were also very different.
The animal WP Weston Peick was the fastest looking guy there, him and Joey Savatchy were the only two guys I saw jumping the triple in front of the tower. Lots of fast locals, and factory guys were there, but those two were railing.
Anyways what a fun day, even though I always struggle at glen Helen. That dirt is weird. Had a great time riding a bunch this week and now back in the van, turn on a new Pulp mx show, big coffee and a long ass drive home.

Without reading your writeup I looked at the pics and thought to myself, that looks like Weston and sure enough when I read your post it was. Weston looks so aggressive on the bike.

Good writeup and thanks for the firsthand account of your day.

Glad you guys enjoyed my dorky story, ha ha. Sorry I could only take so many crappy phone pics.
Joe 317, I make the trip to either SoCal or NorCal very often, last year I was in Cali for a week or two at a time, for 10 months out of the year. Lots of driving up and down I 5. Now that Pala is closed maybee a little less.

I felt the same way when I heard about Pala. My girlfriend got a job in LA. So I will be down there a lot more now. I will give you a shout if I see you out there.
Have you been able to ride Zaca Station?

I don't care how many time you ride that place, it's always different each ride. You never know who you will see there on Thursdays.

I agree with ya some nice pics to go with it. I wish I could move out to Cali from Chicago if I wasn't married have a 18 month old son and a baby girl due in 6 weeks, and my plumbing company to run. I will for sure be looking to retire out there when I'm 50-55.

They test a lot of different parts, that could've been day 1 and he was just getting a baseline to see what he liked.

Then there's this.

I did not get a really close look ay Pourcels bike but it did look very stock. Not even any coatings on the fork legs. It was weird to see Tedesco and Peick already riding out of the RCH truck when the supercross series is not even over.
And Joe317, yep I love Zaca hope to see you around maybee up north or down south.

Yeah, he wasn't riding this bike, at least in this configuration.......but who knows what they were testing, the bike did not sound stock for sure. Oh, and by the way slip, the smoker rips the hills at glen Helen! Wink another side note, Mcgrath was out there, testing a couple different bikes, and one of them did not sound like a 450, but it didn't sound like a 250 either...........hmmmm......

When Pourcel did ride GP with Kawasaki 450 he used stock front fork tubes also. Sure inner parts were not from show room floor..
I did see video from last year MC running stock Honda 250 wich didnt sound anything like top 250 because he was riding it like 450 with high gears/lazy on Honda press day. I hope its 350 anyway Smile

and thanks for posting interesting story!

I live in Boring, right down the road from Mt View. I'm there every Tuesday when I'm home.
By the way Pourcel was definitely not riding that bike.

I wish, i was too lazy to take it out. It was funny when i rode by Mcgraths pits he seemed to watch my bike ride by, and i swear i could see a tear roll down his cheek. Wink
