Has anyone gotten the new 450 yet? Not talking about pros and industry guys, but like us regular (normal) people?

My local shop still hasn't gotten them yet and I heard for the Cycle Nation team yesterday (Sunday @ Aonia Pass MX) that they may not come in until Nov.

LOL, do you reallly think they would put either of those on it out of the box? The last time I checked it came with Kawasaki Air Filter oil on it. Prepping bikes isn't something i do on a daily basis, but i really doubt they have changed the filter oil since my last kx450 I bought 2 years ago.

On that note, I still service mine before riding and tear everything and grease it real good.

I have had one of ALL of their 450's.... they haven't changed the way the ship the bikes from Japan. If you want to suck dirt then go ahead and moto the thing with the factory serviced air filter

the "oil" that comes on the filter is thin and it would be a STRETCH to call it "air filter oil" as it has no tack and is clear in color.

Its not that the dealer I buy from I dont trust. I absolutely trust him, he has helped me out for years. I just dont like the thought of someone else that I dont know in the service department that just so happened to forget to tighten a bolt or something stupid. I prefer to pick the bike up in the crate and build it myself. Ive bought bikes already built from them to but I always check over everything on the bike to make sure they didnt mess anything up. Ive had some doozies from getting a bike with the airfilter put in backwards to not even having an airfilter bolt put in to loose axle nuts. I dont trust ANY dealers service department with my bikes.

And yes I do know the filters come pre-oiled.

This is exactly why I always tell the dealer not to touch the bike before I get there. I either want it in the crate or I want to see it coming out of the crate. Don't need some knucklehead ripping through the gears on my un-broken-in motor.

Don't touch that bike until i get there, yeah right.
Thats funny stuff right there.
As for ripping through the gears, thats not what i said.
A dealership is required to make sure the bike works properly before it is released to the customer.
Knucklehead? Your the one in Iraq watching your ass everyday and i'm here in the states riding every weekend. looks like you win the knucklehead prize.
WOW taking a cheap shot at an Amercian soldier doing his duty for his country over seas that is outstanding!!! you should be proud of yourself.... I think you should have said.... he is in Iraq so you can ride everyday. A simple thank you is all that is required....What dealership do you work for so I can add it to the boycotted business list that is given to inprocessing soldiers at you nearest military base. Your the knucklehead.... My dealership has always given me the chance to pick up in the crate, or watch them uncrate it..... you must have a really crappy dealership to not allow this customer service.

If a dealer doesn't want to wait for me to uncrate the thing, then I will take my money somewhere else....Now you STFU and thank that man for being in Iraq to watch his and your asses!!!!

+2 on getting bikes in a crate, i always import all of my bikes from the US and that is how they come. If the dealer already had the bike on wheels, it most likely was a showroom unit and is just more stress for them to have to crate it back up, most of the time they won't and they will tell you to wait until they get more crated units in that they can just ship out as they come.

BTW Hope all is good with you and your family, long time since we've talked.

That is a dealer problem! When you uncrate the unit there is a checklist that must be performed. Air filter service is on the list. We got a 250 from another dealer one time that didn't have the filter in the bike. We (the dealer ) is obligated to ride and test every bike before it goes out. So lawyers don't get any richer.

Buddy of mine just picked up his 09 KX 450F and got about an hour on it over 2 days of riding then took it for its maiden race on Sunday. Made it through the first 10 minute practice then when it was race time, pulled it from the stand, kicked it through slowly and then gave it a kick and all HELL broke loose!!! Literally!!!!

When he kicked the bike through, something inside the starting gears in the case broke loose and cracked the case and the clutch cover and sent oil spilling downt the case Sad

Now keep in mind he had been waiting for almost 2 months after selling his 08 when Kawi said they would ahve "early release" of the 09's. Now the dealer has his Bran New 09 KX 450F. Kawi said they would warrantly the parts, which is cool, but the dealership is telling him that there is not yet a parts list to be able to order the parts!!!

What would you do? What do you think the dealer is obligated to do?

They have another 09 sitting there, do you guys think it would be a good idea for the shop to just pull the motor and put it in his frams?

Stinks to have a brand new 7500 bike you can't ride!!!

His dealership got 2 and ours none? I mean no dealerships around me has gotten one in yet!

This thing blew with under 2 hours on it? I didn't hear of any test bikes @ muddy creek blowing. They rode all day long?

It didn't actually blow the motor, but when the gears (or whatever it was) behind the kicker snapped it broke more inside and then cracked the clutch cover and cases. So technically it didn't BLOW the motor, but it may as well have, juut as useless!!

holy shit.... I hope that was a freak deal. I don't know what I would do (as a dealer) in that situation.

I think he will probably have to wait for the parts... the parts diagram was just released (i think) It doesn't appear to be different than the 08 so I hope they can already order the parts for it.

Sorry to hear that!

For what its worth heres an update on my buddies 09 450....Kawi said no problem we will warranty everything BUT it will take 3 weeks to get the parts to the shop (this is what they told the shop) so my frend called Kawi customer service and they agreed to let the shop take the parts off of the new machine that was sitting on the floor. SO long story short, Kawi came through nicely but ONLY with the help of the shop agreeing to do what I think was the right thing to do. They tore into the new machine and replaced all the parts and only charged him for the oil put in the motor!!! Needless to say, he is a happy Kawi rider again!!! Smile

I guess the shop is sending all the part back to Kawi so that they can take a look and ensure that it was a fluke thing.

Some kid at the dealership rode his bike before he bought it. The kid was a big bubba and was working the kickstarter like a jackhammer before he ripped through the gears across the parking lot. True story. Shoulda got it in the crate!

OK, I kid, I kid !!!! Seriously though, same thing happened to my buddy's YZ250. The kicker shaft got kind of cocked when he kicked it and everything ripped apart. It destroyed the clutch cover as well as the back side where the hump is under the carb in the center cases. This was on the starting line of a 4-hour partner hare scramble. Ruined our day.

im not a kawi guy but one of my friends just got one and rode at my track today and the bike looked real good. he had a 06 before which cornered really bad. i was impressed how easily it started both cold and hot. you could ride it with the high idle on and it rode normal, doesnt load up like a bike with the choke left on.seemed to handle real good , good broad power. ill ride it tomorrow. one of my other friends is getting his 09 hoda 450 next week so it will be interesting to compare them
