I understand Lenny just fine. What I CAN'T understand is how he finds time to keep baiting that hook and casting when he's so busy whacking all of his catch over the head with his fish bat.

Yeah definitely a rare moment. I don't think I've ever seen RV look anywhere but forward when on the track and I'm pretty sure I've seen every main event of his 450 career. I'm surprised it took this long for a thread to be made about it. I'm not surprised however by the JS vs RV fanboy battle.

You are assuming RV "laid up a bit" and I do think it's possible, but RV himself said James was faster in a couple spots, one being the whoops. This isn't the past five years, James is finally healthy and on an equal bike. Some people just can't accept RV will be faster sometimes and JS will be faster sometimes. When people stop being fanboys or disliking one of the riders they will see they are fairly equal. I think Outdoors RV will still be a bit better though.

nothing wrong with debating it.

put the shoes on the other foot though, if James was comfortable with a 35 point lead and RV was reeling off wins would all the Stewart fans not be claiming the same stuff? had the situation been switched i think you'd see a much more aggressive RV and a much more passive Stewart.

actually weren't people claiming it in '09 when RV won Seattle and Vegas? that Stewart was laying up and RV had nothing to lose?

my post isn't directly at you, just the forum in general.

Yes they would.

My point was, we are finally seeing something similar to the old Stewart, and people should be able to see those two pretty damn close to equal right now. Hopefully it will continue and we can get some battles going the way RC and JS used to do it.

It would be great if the Outdoors would create a good battle for the Championship, between any riders for that matter.
I could possibly agree more with that Chip!

I get suckered into the ribbing stuff sometime.....and sometimes it's actually fun. We have some newer , trouble maker JS7 fans here that seem to be really good at starting drama.

I really , really hope we get to see a RV , RD , Stewart , KRoc , Tomac , Reed , ect battles up towards the front this summer! I don't want to see a runaway from anyone. I honestly couldn't care less who wins the dang thing.....I just want good racing.

BUT.....in the RV slam threads......expect to see me dishing it back out from time to time. It's like shooting fish in a barrel with some of those idiots. Laughing

I hate to tell MXA this, but I don't even remember titles, I remember moments. When RC looped out and charged through the field to almost win the race, Robbie Reynard catching and passing RC at Unadilla, James going from last to first at Budds, James letting Chad Reed by and then passing him for the win..............Johnson and Bailey battling for a win in SX in 1986. That is the kind of stuff that I remember. That is also why guys like Damon Bradshaw, Danny "Magoo" Chander, and Ron Lechien are still remembered. People always talk about the record books, but after a certain time people forget about that stuff, unless they are trying to win a debate. Sure RC won 10 straight outdoor titles, but that's not the stuff that I remember about him or any other great rider. That's just me though.

yeah while I'm kinda with you I also remember number of championships
but I quoted because ' Sure RC won 10 straight outdoor titles, but that's not the stuff that I remember about him or any other great rider.' I thought it was kinda funny that you mentioned something about RC that you don't remember haha

I don't really get those of you who get geeked on something as trivial as Ryan Villopoto looking back.
totally agree.. It makes me wonder what these fanboys will do when 'their' rider retires.. do they stop watching or do they find another kid to live through?

From MXA:
For the average motorcycle racer winning is a joyous occasion, but for superstars like James Stewart, Ryan Villopoto, Ryan Dungey and Chad Reed, the thrill of that single night of glory has been replaced with a desire to be remember. Or, more likely a fear of being forgotten...and it happens all the time. Need examples? Have you given much thought to Steve Lamson, George Holland, Grant Langston, Jeff Stanton, Rick Burgett or Darrell Schultz lately? They were all Champions in their time. Although not forgotten—they aren’t really remembered. Winning races is nice, but the record book is reserved for Championship winners—and even guys with four, five or six titles aren’t spoken of with reverence a few years after they retire. Thus, James Stewart is happy to win races, but that wistful look in his eyes is because he wants to win Championships. He may be the fastest rider on the planet, but all the record book shows is that he hasn’t won a title since 2009.

man mxa aren't the brightest jurnos thats for sure....love it or hate it when james retires he will leave a huge hole in the game more so that the likes of any other rider bar rc or mc,as with the infamous let broc bye that will be remembered forever, im sure you will always find yourselves saying james would hit that when the current fast guys arent hitting sections as he would.so enjoy while you still can.

The only reason that I remembered it is because it's thrown around so much. I can't tell you how many titles he won in SX and the only reason that I know that MC has 7 is because they said it on the SX broadcast this past week. Championships aren't the first thing that I think about when you mention a certain riders name. Jeff Ward is one of my all time favorite riders, but when you mention his name I don't think about his titles, I think about him on a green Kawi battling with Johnny O'mara. I know that he won titles in each class, but I can't tell you how many SX or National titles that he has. When I do remember titles I have to actively go back an think about it and count.

With the advent of the internet the moments that a rider creates may be even more important.

I have to agree to an extent, because championships and wins are the two top things riders are shooting for, but moments of being shocked what top riders can do are the most memorable for many fans.
A few that stick out for me was in 1979 I saw Jimmy Weinert doing no hand jumps at Daytona during the Supercross, 1989 Bradshaw crashing 3 times and still winning, 1987 or 88 watching George Holland and Kehoe battle at Gatorback, the list is endless, so I can see both sides.

Looking at MXA's comment again they are speaking from a rider's standpoint and I'm speaking from a fan standpoint. That being said they may be right, but a guy like RV or RC or James just wants to win races when it comes down to it. Normally guys don't retire because they can't win series they retire because they can't win races any longer. That's just MHO.

This RV vs James superfan rivalry is kind of entertaining to watch, but also interesting to see the all the double standards. Just to point this out I have no dog in this fight, but to the JS7 superfans, when RV passed and left JS7 in 2009 at the Las Vegas SX main event (when JS7 was just trying to clinch a Championship) did you guys say RV smoked James? James had nothing for RV. James wanted to win, tried his hardest and RV just passed him straight up and crushed him?

I'd think the pressure of the last round would be hugely different than with 5 rounds to go.

Not only that, but with James that year even a relatively small wreck that he can get up from and finish 5-7 could've handed the title to Reed.

At this point RV can actually afford to crash all the way out of a race and still win the title. But I'm sure the looming 4th has to be affecting his riding some.

Not even the same. RV has a 39 point lead with 5 races to go. JS7 had like 10 point lead or something on last round. Not even the same. CR tried to run him into the stands even.
