How can you beat a record that's not a record ?

definition of "record"
to show a measurement of (something) : to indicate (something)
Add RC inside the first parenthesize, no one said Bubba beat the "all time" record, Bubbs' did beat RC's personal record though. Your using weasel words guy

72+1 is still a long ways away.

Look what you started TBT.

For the record, James statement was incorrect as no record was surpassed.
He surpassed RC's SX win total, not record.

Now you can record that shit as fact.....for the record

told ya in the other thread, i'll eat my laptop if he does. it's not happening. bet your net worth against it- it'd be printing money.

even if he races 3 more years that's >7 wins a year which he can't do against the current competition, and he's not racing for 3 more years.

I love how a topic can be derailed.

Read the original post. I'm a huge fan, I just don't agree with the "record" characterization of his passing RC win total.

That is all.

rec·ord
noun
ˈrekər/
1.
a thing constituting a piece of evidence about the past, esp. an account of an act or occurrence kept in writing or some other permanent form.

2.
the sum of the past achievements or actions of a person or organization; a person or thing's previous conduct or performance.

He beat Ricky's record on the all time SX win list. Record doesn't mean THE BEST EVER.

This is like the quad argument reborn. It's all just a play on words. I am quite sure JS7 knows he didn't beat MC's SX win record. I don't see how some of you can't just understand what the hell he is saying and move on. Instead you're putting assumptions and twisting meanings behind what he's saying.

Man, I cant believe we didnt talk about how Roczen got the record this year. He totally passed Hill, Grant, Short, Dowd, Tortelli, Albertyn.....

It is unfortunate he threw away quite some races, otherwise he would be much closer to the 72 record.

It's more wins than the Goat, so technically he broke the second place record. Pretty cool after so many people wrote him off. If it makes you fell better you don't have to say it's a record.

Many of us understand what you were saying. Its a dang shame when a person has to preface every non-positive post about James with "Im a big fan" or risk getting labeled a shit-stirrer, racist or hater. Gotta love 21st Century politically correct America.

And BTW, youre right on your point. James didnt break anything, just achieved a new personal best, and moved up in the list of non-record holders.

The record for most wins over the longest period of time? Laughing

Jeremy and Ricky came in, kicked ass non stop and got the hell out. No one will top those in those time frames .

James passed RC's PR. Runners and swimmers have been able to distinguish between "The" record and "Personal" record for ages.

He did? Thats cool ! I still say James is the most creative SX racer ever. Also a racer who made it look like he was just playing around out there on a course that all the rest were obviously struggling with.

I guess what is important in this discussion is if he seat bounced his way to surpassing Ricks win total, and if he did in fact seat bounce should it be determined that it is the sole reason for the non existent record to be broken. If so how did the seat bounce do this. Was it the physics of his weight being applied to the suspension to cause a lift in the angleviscosity of the suspension??????

Man, this is a lot of hub bub about semantics. Maybe Stewart should have suffixed it with "for lack of a better word" or said "the proper word escapes me". If you know what he meant then he conveyed his thought well enough even if he didn't use the exact precise words. Seriously, nit pickiness is not an admirable trait.

And now you are nit picking someone elses nit pickiness.

Not an admirable trait.

Come on, that's not nit picking, that's a tempered criticism, rather than the excessive chastisement and beratement I refrained from giving.

What a bunch of fucking morons. Hillbilly is the dumbest of them all. The guy is a legend and he has cemented his status amongst the absolute best of the sport by breaking Ricky's record for SX wins.

The amount of unfounded hate for this guy is unbelievable.

It seems to me that most people that know SX know that the 72 wins number is presently, unattainable. Therefore, the "record" to beat was RCs. JS beat that. Can we move on to Saint Louie now?

Jealousy.

That is the only thing I can come up with.

Or because he is black.

Other than that, I just cannot figure it out. They hope and pray for him to crash. When he does not do that, they attack him for winning.

In all of sports the “record” is understood to mean the most, highest, farthest, fastest, or whatever parameter applies. Sports marketing has always promoted record breaking to increase viewership and attendance. Characterizing Stewart’s win as breaking the record is simply a marketing strategy, albeit, somewhat deceptive.
