Really bums me out. I thought MAYBE we might get lucky and have SX back at the Dome but it doesn't look like it now...

I went to my one and only supercross race in the silverdome! I was young but I remember mike brown riding a PC 125. Not sure of the year.

The Silver Bag seemed like it was built for hosting SX. Huge parking lot surrounding the stadium for tailgating. Plenty of space for the pro pits. It was always general admission and they would let you in very early in the day on Saturday. We would get there about when they would open the doors to the place and stake out our seats and most years we would have a huge group. It was awesome and we could go in and out most of the day. The track evolved into one of the coolest tracks also when they decided to start going up into the stands. I remember being disappointed one of the last years they raced there because they didn't do that anymore. It was also one of the double header stops for many years and I think i only missed two or three races over all the years they raced there. So many memories of the greats racing there over the years (Hannah owned the place!) and hanging out with friends. I even raced the amateur program once (1981) but quickly realized I wasn't cut out for stadium tracks...lol. I was really bummed when it moved to downtown Detroit and I only went once during the first stint. I was so spoiled by the Silverdome experiences that I almost didn't go this year but I'm glad I did and will keep attending. It's just a shame that the place got abandoned the way it did.

The Silverdome was a cool place,I only when there one time,it was the last race there in 2005, It was the first time I shot photos at a supercross race from the floor.I liked the big parking lot and pit area there too.

The Silverdome contains some of the best Lions memories I have. Barry Sanders. GOAT.

Motocross memories were just as good.

The thing with the Dome as it was like a mini Red Bud. HUGE lot surrounding the place to tailgate in.

Remember going through those rotating doors with a massive suction? Scared the shit out of me when I was a kid.

I loved that place for SX.

I'm glad Detroit this year got a good crowd. Michigan loves MX. Adapt and change.

Had some great memories in that place. Does anyone know where you can buy the seats at?

^^^THIS^^^......I loved as a kid (and as an adult!) to push open the single doors and let the wind just blow your ass out the door! so much fun!

I used to take my parent's motorhome when I was older and tailgate from Friday night to sunday. It was usually the meeting place and party for all our friends to gather before heading in. Use to ride my unicycle all over while drinking out of the red solo cups! So many drunks tried to ride that thing and fall flat on their ass or back! Good times!

Also one time during one of the last SX's, my buddy AL worked for a company that sold and installed fake boobies...anyways, the parking lot was sometimes also used for movies where they had a few huge screens throughout the parking lot and he had a projector and projected on the screen the before and after breast shots of patients on Friday night after the amateur awards banquet, lol, lots of people who were there for the weekend liked that by hooting and hollering.....then on Saturday night after the races we played the first year of The Great Outdoors video while everyone was leaving the lot and we stayed partying, gave the fans something to watch while waiting in the traffic jam to get out. Great Times were had!

I remember the year MC had to go through the LCQ to make the main, then won the main. I was lucky enough to be invited to work the scoring booth for SRO Pace that year. Only thing that sucked was having to pay close attention to number plates for scoring, and I missed some good racing.

They showed that at this year's SX at Ford Field of MC going through the LCQ to win the main. They were saying something like if the winner of this year's lcq became the winner of the main, they get a $10,000 bonus. I could be wrong on the amount of money but it was/is something to that effect.

I also raced that amateur sx on Sundays from 89' to 96......ALWAYS got severe arm pump due to not being able to ride enough to eliminate the arm pump before the race due to snow, cold weather and late starts of the race season. Never could go south during the winter to ride and indoor practice facilities were unheard of back then.

Haha! That wind going out the door when we left would shoot us about 20'! Good times.

I was like 12 or something and a hot chick wearing a camel cigarette outfit gave me a sample pack of smokes. Can you believe that nowadays?!

Anyone got any classic picture of inside the dome? Wish I could have seen it in its prime.

Got some older ones too. These are from 1990, pretty sure all from practice. I was a youngin', loved me some Jeff Ward. Apologies for the quality, we weren't exactly GuyB with the 35mm camera

Sweet man thanks! That middle picture was the kind of picture with view of the field and seats I was looking for forGrinning

All of those pictures from the 90s are badass! The track going In to the stands looks better then it did last weekend

For sure! Ford Field is "very nice", but no one can beat the tailgating at the Silverdome. Bummer its going away - lots of good memories of that place. (and bad Lions blowouts)

The last time I went was 1998 with Mcgrath on his new Yamaha. He was coming through the pack and went down in the corner just before the finishline breaking his experimental triple clamp and his wrist which caused him to miss the start of the outdoors. I really hope this is just for renovations so we might see some supercross there later.

Dave - You might remember the qualifier in 94 (I believe) at Mustang Acres. I think we were parked by each other. The start was a strange mix of slush, mud and straw. Aahhh the fond memories of racing in Michigan in March.

I will try to dig out some really old school Pontiac moments later today and post them up.

There are some epic photos from the days when we were doing the MotoXXX sponsorship deal and Jamie Grosser would host pit parties More than a couple times we would get heat from Live Nation about how those events were handled.

Old guys have lots of memories.

Something is different it seems, where the track goes into the stands was so dark the year i raced,it was lit with a 40 watt bulb.

I thought it went under that balcony,I just recall darkness.
