What's the difference between a Geico bike that is "factory" based and a more "stock" based one??

They were talking about it on the pulpmx show..doe..

Reed didn't like the air forks on the Honda. I imagine there is some difference in the suspension and maybe how the weight is distributed. I am entirely out of the know though. Just guessing.

about as stock as the crf short rode awhile back lol. they said once on a factory bike or that level bike short would be on the box.

Wrong, frame has to be production spec, but they can weld and reinforce/stiffen said frame all they want. You can even do this at the ameteur level.

Tomac's bike is a factory Honda that the Geico team puts their graphics and personal sponsors on.
Wil Hahns bike on the other hand Geico builds off a stock bike, it might have factory parts here and there, but it's different from Tomac's, weird how they would give one and not the other.

Could this be mis- information from Honda thrown out to convince buyers that the stock CRF is what a factory rider prefers?

They mentioned one of the top guys switching from a hydraulic clutch to a cable clutch in the practice broadcast a couple weeks back because he preferred the feel - I think that it might have been Tomac.

NASCARS are built from steel tubes, fiberglass, etc.

A factory dirtbike starts with an OEM bike, and modified.

Not really a good comparison.

Hence Villopoto having to wait till 2012 bike was homogolated and why McGrath left Honda in 1997 when they went aluminum with not the same specs as the 1993 bike. correct but Both JT$ and Matthes said in the post race podcast that Tomac switched from a Full on Barcia or Canard factory bike to a Geico bike more similar to Hahns "Production" bike.

Hahn does not have access to the factory parts that Tomac has, like fork internals, linkage, shock internals, factory trannys, heads, etc..

Obviously Hahns bike is not stock but it does not have all the goodies that Barcia or Canard get straight from Honda Japan

Exactly, i guess the Vitards think I believe Tomacs crf450 jut rolled off the showroom floor..obviously it isnt "bone stocK" but i was curious what they did to it.

Where on earth did you hear that Tomac runs a stock based bike? It has been made pretty clear throughout the season that he's riding a factory Honda.
