JAY...wtf? carlsbad was huge and so was mid ohio. if this shit is on WWS it would be awesome.

the moto gp race wasn't just another race at laguna seca and it still isn't.

I know its just a pipe dream, but i sure would love to see a race where we take the top 20 from the US and the top 20 from the GP's to make a 40 rider gate (do it for both MX1 and MX2) Lets take it even one step further, TWO races, one on each side of the atlantic.

the moto gp race wasn't just another race at laguna seca and it still isn't.
A permanent USGP mx at a premier track would be epic. I'm not so sure about putting the race in alabama though. Putting the race in the mx mecca at Glen Helen or Unadilla where theres some rich history already makes more sense to me. Look at the interest we got from just one of the top gp riders coming to race at southwick, people will come out of the woodwork to see our boys race the rest worlds best once a year. like Mr. M said it wont be just another race.

So why is it again they can't have one joint round in the United States each year? Kind of like when they used to do the joint 125east/west sx rounds mid-season in the 90s. Whoever qualifies, qualifies. Whoever doesn't probably wasn't fast enough to contend for the championship anyways.

This would be the perfect scenario.

I say GH would be fine for my schedule. Late Sept. I don't have anything on the books. I will pencil it in. And if the MXdesN is early Oct. I will put that in also. Two weeks after GH Maybe at CompEdge. I will stay up at the folks for that. Sounds Good, who's coming?

I believe they will adopt the same system as for the GP of South africa or Japan help (manufacturers or YS) the top 15 riders to go across the pond then you can add probably 10 riders out of the top 15 making their way as well. And then Youthstream will probably get 10-15 american riders they select to fill the field.

Sounds good to me.

MXlarge said they will be a round in Brazil as well. Enough to attract a few more riders to the GP Jeff Alessi? Cody Cooper? Which other rider is more of an outdoor specialist than SX?

If there would be a AMA national race in Europe with the top 10 -15 of US riders and a bunch of fast Euros the place will be packed.

The Indy Cars did the same thing a few years back.

Yep, maybe even more.
All the GP-riders have to pay there own tickets and shipping and so on, Youthstream doesn't pay anything. So the factoryteams will be there, besides that a few riders who can afford it and are in in good position in the championship and that will be it.
I guess there will be about 15-20 regular GP-riders and the rest will be filled up with wildcards.
They did the same thing with the GP in South Africa and the MX3 race in Chile.
So it will be strange race. The top GP-riders fighting in the last race for the championship and between them maybe 20 US-riders.

I would love to see the top 20 in each class from each series square off on US soil.
I would like to see it on a neutral style track, Dilla or Wick would be good.
I know nothing about the alabama track so I can't speak for it.

IF the gp's are as hairlipped as the nats there is no way the top 20 could come over though. Think of all the top 20 guys that couldn't afford to do all the rounds this summer.

Carlsbad was HUGE !! I loved that race, there were so many spectators, and think about it Moto wasn't televised as much on TV and they had to borrow two pieces of property adjascent to the facilty for more parking. Serious I remember asking Gavin Trippe (Supermoto promoter now) the promoter of the USGP and he said he had over 45,000 people packed into Carlsbad if not more. I think 60,000 was his biggest ??

I remember one of the races I went to at Carlsbad I had never seen that many people at a "day" race, it was just mayhem and crazy. People were stopped on the bridges they had going across the track in certain places, security had to hang out at the bridges to move people along they were afraid of them coming down from all the weight.

I know back in the day at our Golden States at Carlsbad & Saddleback, we'd get anywhere from 8,000 to 15,000 through the gate. Even at Glen Helen in the 80's I remember huge numbers of spectators. There were days we'd be counting money for hours, so many people were there, the 80's rocked ha !!

Then I went to my only MXDN in Switzerland, in 1982 I went on Saturday, they had 75,000 spectators there just to watch practice and qualifying, on Sunday there were close to 150,000 spectators. I know they aren't getting those numbers now, but I hear the MotoGP's are pulling in those numbers in Europe, not sure on Laguna Seca though ??

In the 70's the USGP at Carlsbad was enormous. It used to block the 5 freeway for hours when it let out. Ran out of gas about a mile from Redhill ave in Tustin, because no gas stations had gas during the gas(oil) crisis, from Carlsba to there.

none of you know where the 2009 US MXGP will be. YS will decide and keep a lid on it to keep tentacles off the event. If they don't, as soon as a venue is announced, shit happens.

Your team doesn't sign up for the whole series if you are racing as a guest in the host
nation.

There may be 2 USGPs coming up too, plus MXoN every 3rd year.

Why is birmingham such a bad place? Think about that certain supercross in Atl every feb- I believe it draws record crowds and is about 1 1/2 hrs down teh road. SoCal, yall got plenty already - dont be selfish. And up north already had MXdN so... Not to mention if Barber builds something, its gonna be darn near perfect.
..Which is all good and well as long as the track is still being built. Hadn't heard to much about it lately..
