I'd have to go with the Golden State Nationals held in California in late 80's. National Champions warming up for the season, but they were going for it. Most memorable race was a mud-race at Adelanto. Johnson took advantage of Lechien wearing an open face helmet. Lechien hit Johnson's fist with his face! Smile

1974 Road Atlanta Trans-AMA. This was the first pro race I attended. Seeing Roger DeCoster and Marty Smith win; along with all of the other badass riders lighting up the track, was incredible for this then 14 yr old. I still remember some of it like it just happened yesterday!

A national at Escape Country. The track was staked off through 2-3' tall bright green grass. After practice the bikes turned the track into perfect dark loam with the green grass as the boarder....absolutely MX nirvana
Kenny, you and I were at the same races! Escape Country was EPIC that day!!! For me, it's got to be Friday Night MX at Indian Dunes, with Donnie Hansen and Joe Root on the Kolbe Can-Ams, Johnny O'Mara showing up, Eric Kehoe on a YZ80, Kenny Zahrt and the after race parties.....Not even CLOSE!!!!

Yeah for sure that's what made it so epic. Even as a 15 year old kid I knew I was watching history. The two best ever, the GOAT, the FMOTP, dueling. There were only two riders that day, I literally cannot tell you a single thing about any other rider. I think we even took a brief nap during the 250 race (tired from all that shouting!). We had this saved on the DVR for the longest time. I don't think we watched it once, but we could not delete it. They had many great battles that season, but I was there for this one, and really both riders got the best of each other. I'll never forget how disappointed Ricky was when he wadded. You could see it in his riding. He was coming down the S-turn before hitting the left-hander towards the right-hander into the whoops and I yelled words of encouragement to Ricky and he just shook his head. We literally had a "moment" lol. We all appreciated his effort and he knew it, but he was so pissed he chased James down only to make some gnarly mistake and throw it all away.

1. Motocross Des Nations - 1987 at Unadilla, I was 22 and it was crazy. Bob Hannah was signing boobs afterwards and it was a complete mudfest.

2. Loretta's is great, especially the years when Sexton, Owen and Weeks won titles

3. Red Bud - pretty much every year is epic

The best I’ve been to in the USA:

The 1978 & 1979 Mr. Pibb MX National series came to Charlotte. Hannah always got horrible starts but systematically picked off and smoked the entire field both years.

The 1999 USGP at Budd’s brought pre-race smack from Everts saying he thought the top US racers were being cowards for deciding not to race the GP, rather to focus on the US races and the time off the week end allowed. Windham got pissed, showed up and left no doubt that Everts had nothing for him on that day.

I was at the '78 Unadilla trans AMA. I remember it snowed over night, not much but it seemed like there were 4 seasons in one day. Incredible racing. I ran into a friend I had met in Belgium the winter before that we went to quite a few gp international warm up races together. 2 american kids hitting all these races. After Dilla I lost track of him.

74 75 76 Hangtown at Plymouth. Pitting right with the Pros and blue plate experts. Bonfires, mini bikes, streaking and oh yeah, epic racing.
