That was Ryan after his motor blew up going through the whoops at the Baltimore Arenacross on lap 3 of practice a couple of months ago. He was burned pretty badly and really down in general about life and racing. Wanting to quit all together and just very frustrated with it all. It is tough racing your whole life and being faced with getting a job and having to give it up. He and I have both realized that being the next RC or MC more than likely is not going to happen at this point. Even getting a opportunity throw a leg over a factory bike is just not in the cards for most struggling privateers like Ryan. Hell he goes to the races does his best and nobody even knows his name, no that is pretty far under the radar. Let's face it you are either with the in crowd or you are not when it comes to this industry. Ryan is like so many other talented riders on the outside looking in hoping and praying for their chance in the limelight.

Anyway, that is Ryan Saturday night at the Atlanta SX 250 Main in which he finished 19th. 19th you say is not that good for most racers who race for a living, but for Ryan I was extremely proud of this accomplishment. First off because he has only ridden 5 times since the outdoors last year. Once was the 3 laps in Baltimore AX where he got hurt when his motor blew and another one was last Thursday testing for 2 hours at South of the Border on the way to Atlanta. Unfortunately, he missed Dallas because we had to spend that money to fix his motor that blew in Baltimore.

This is the best part and what I am most proud of Ryan for, he got up at 6am to go to work. I guess training on the end of a jack hammer has its perks. I wanted to share Ryan's story because all you ever hear on TV is about the front runners, but there is so much more to this sports if you just look a little farther back in the field. We will continue to race as many SX events as we can, or at least until the money runs out. He is having fun and making it work however he can.
I do want to thank the few sponsors we have.
Witt's End Racing- for our bike and parts from last year ( very helpful and fortunate to have )
Pro Action Suspension- Yeah I need a plug too
VPE - Fred is the best and our bike ripped this weekend
Fly Racing- awesome gear and always keep Ryan looking good
Bell Helmets- very nice helmets and protect Ryan so he can go to work Monday
Scott Goggles- never have to worry about clean goggles at the race
ICW- Brett makes the best stands and radiators in the business
South of the Border- Best training facility around (Schaffer thanks for the room Thursday night too)
Link Inc.- Dusty got our numbers done just in time Thanks
Triangle Cycles- Rusty and Oneil always take care of us.
Liquid Performance- Connell always keeps us in LP keeping our bikes looking good.
Any spot in the main event is worth being proud of. I wish him the best of luck for the rest of the year.
The Shop
Luxon 4-Post Bar Mounts
$189.95 - $239.95
DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
One thing though, maybe going to Subway to get that burn wound wasnt the best course of action. Is that the dijon or regular mustard you guys smeared on there with the mayo?
and more help...
Don't get down on your self about not getting that factory ride or that big money contract. Look on the bright side because he has done allot more then 80% of the riders out there and he is a healthy young man that has a long life ahead of him.
I wish you guys the best in 2014 and next time I see you guys at one of the local tracks I will make it a point to say high.
Good luck Ryan.
Watching races, especially in person has changed a lot for me in recent years. I attend races to watch guys like him! Best of luck this year.
Pit Row
Also, please keep my daughter Autumn, Ryan's sister, in your prayers. Found out this morning she has to have another rod put in her leg Thursday. After her terrible accident in November one of the femurs she broke ( the compound one ) is not growing back together. She has been through so much and could use your prayers. Me too it is going to be a tough week on Dad getting everything done.
Thanks again for everyone's support and comments.
My son pointed Ryan out in practice. He was one of the ones who had it fairly figured out. Looked like he just needed to link the obstacles together a little better. My boy picked it up with "dad, look, that guy must not have ANY sponsors. He's got no stickers on his bike." So kuddos to the no sticker deal. It at least got you noticed by a 14 y/o supersupercross fan. He even pointed Ryan out again on the TV broadcast when we got home. It's good to see the privateers making it. Our local guys didn't fare so well.
Ryan has had some tough luck the last few weeks with crashes, but I am so proud of the way he is riding. He was in 6 th in his heat race and unfortunately #96 bike kicked out taking Ryan down and collecting Kyle Peters with him. Ryan's bike was trashed subframe, pipe, fender, number plates, bars, airbox, etc.... I want to thank #69 Levi Kilbarger's mechanic for helping me get Ryan's bike back together for the LCQ, without his help we wouldn't have been able to make the race. Unfortunately, we did not have time to get his bar mounts fixed so his bars were still bent to the left really bad.
Ryan even though he was banged up and his bike was less than perfect he still gave it all he had in the LCQ. Big props to #91 Jacob Baumert for an awesome job beating Ryan to the line by .005 seconds. It was an awseome race with both boys not giving an inch.
I am very proud of Ryan for not giving up and doing his best!
