Personally, I think KW retired because he thought he was pushing his luck by continuing to race. The transfers are really cool, but it seems to me that he's pushing his luck more than if he was racing. I hope he let's that go and just announces.

x2. I can't get my mind around how doing these crazy, insane, do-or-die transfer jumps is not pushing his luck. Don't get me wrong, I love to see the skill and watch him do them, but I have often wondered why he is comfortable doing them.

It's totally safe. They make ramps for him and it's just a matter of whipping it to hit the landing and he's pretty good at whipping it.

That has been a source of discussion from what I hear , The people who are there every week seem to think He keeps pushing the envelope a little farther every time.

They must be taking pretty good care of him if he is willing to keep doing those crazy jumps in the dark every week.

This isnt Nitro Circus, there isnt a ramp in the building and no resi landing either. Its an actual SX track with real racers, a checkerd flag and everything. If its so safe, lets see you strap it up bud. I'll line up the bike, a GO Pro, hotel, expenses, everything but insurance/medical care. What do you say, its totally safe right? This place never disappoints.

Kevin Windham took a nasty spill when practicing his massive transfer on Friday night, but the people’s champion was not afraid of letting it fly again Saturday night. The leap, from the side a rhythm lane jump over two lanes and to the downside of a triple’s launch, was one of the most difficult we have seen him pull yet.

X3.

I think he's comfortable doing them, because he's done dirt hill to dirt hill jumps virtually all of his life.

That said, I assume he'll be doing them for the rest of this season...after that I hope he stops and stays in the booth. KW14 is one of my favorites and I'd hate to see him get hurt doing it. Well, I hate to see any of them get hurt.

I'd be cool with a parade lap every now and then...

i love kw and one of my best mx memories was sleeping in a van at dilla in the mid 90s and getting up and walking the track in the morning dew with my friend and coming across KW and alley seymour doing the exact same thing.

stopped and talked to him for a few minutes and asked if he'd do a heel clicker out of the cavity if he was leading. "I'll do my best."

extremely small interaction but it was really cool when you're a 12 year old fan watching the races every week at 1am or whatever on espn.

he swept that day and did heel clickers both motos. This was back as #38 on yamaha.

-----------

derail story over

i hope he keeps doing them, i'd really like to see one in NJ this year Smile

I didn't say I could do it. I said Windham could do it. I've heard he is pretty good at riding a motorcycle. He has been doing it for a little while.
