2002 YZ 250 flywheel question

I have a guy bringing me a 02 yz to go through and he asked me to price him a flywheel weight, I can find listings for 99-01 and 03-13, is the 02 flywheel a oddball or what?

That engine was redesigned somewhere right in there, but there were only two engines (the old one and the new one - not an old one, an '02 and the new one.) 2002 should belong to one of the groups and I'd almost guarantee it's the newer ones.

You could always get both and then return the one that doesn't work.

I know the '03+ have a larger diameter thread then the '02 at the end of the crank for the flywheel.

I believe you need the 03+ one... but they are different part #'s from yamaha

The '02 would have to be its own because the weight substitutes as the nut and holds the flywheel on the crank.

The crank taper is different for sure. I have GYTR heavy one in stock for the newer models that the guy could try if he is not sure if he wants one

The 01 flywheel is lighter, and was sought after for the 02 as a hop up for quicker, harder hitting power. I have the 02 yz250 test in hand in mxa where that is their #1 add on for the 02. I parted out an 01 yz a few years back on eBay and had a flywheel listed for $10 and it got bidded up to $55. I'm assuming it was for newer models and not a giant underground of 01 yz250 restorers.
