Alessi and the whoops

Edited Date/Time 2/3/2014 6:13am
Alessi went through the whoops so effing fast he forgot to turnLaughing

Does he get the balls out award tonight?

Because he saw Stew hit those whoops at Mach 2, took his balls out, put them on the handlebars, and pinned it. He just forgot to turn after that. But hey at least he pinned itSmile

Agreed. I like that's he's still trying to get there. This is the best he's ever looked in supercross, considering the competition.

funny how you say it that way. If James would have done the same thing to mike this place would have blown up about how James is dangerous and needs to retire.

Mike has stepped it up this year, although his results don't reflect that. His work with Bryne is paying off imo. His speed has increased throughout the track and just needs to put it together for 20. Why has he waited so long to have a riding coach to improve on sx?

Yeah, Mike sure saw his race a lot different than everyone else. He made it sound like he was in the running to win when in fact he was charging out of the top 10 or worse.

The brakes locked up because my foot was hammerin' on the pedal so I would make the corner?

Keyboardjockey- just so you know, the expression "balls out" does not refer to your gonads. I mean think about it- why would you want to get more aggressive doing something if the boys were lying out in front? Ick.

It refers to old mechanical governors on steam-driven equipment which used a weighted ball mechanism. As it spun faster, the balls, mounted on a hinged attachment, would swing out due to centripetal force, which would actuate a governor valve. So when the machine was running as hard as i could, the weighted balls would be at their outermost position. Hence the term "balls out" when referring to maximum effort.

So now you know.

I love how they did in fact cut him off but let the sound of him go on rambling!

If you watched Matthes in the pre sx show, you would've stuck your information elsewhere.

He's starting to "survive" the whoops better, but in his 8th or 9th season of supercross he's still JUST surviving them, not making up time on the contenders through them or anything.

I find it amazing that as talented as that kid is, and as much time and effort that he and his family have put into it, that nobody in his "camp" didn't decide to put a higher emphasis on the discipline that probably means the most to making a living as a racer.

Uh, Mike said something to the effect of "it was looking like I could get a top 10" during that interview. He wasn't being unrealistic.

I saw on Modern marvels the episode about steam power had Jay Leno and he has some very cool old steam engines and knows how to run them, he explained about "balls out" that was the first time I had heard where the expression came from. Leno's a hard core gear head.

Surprised that no one mentioned Mike rolling the finish line jump during his semi, lost a position and gate pick at the checkered flag.

I'm just glad he didn't destroy Stewart's knee. That was too close for comfort (maybe a quarter of a second).

And to the benefit of Mike, James kept him from launching off the track.

Conversely, 'balls to the wall' originates from war pilots, as the engine throttles had knobs on the top; when they went 'balls to the wall', it implied full throttle on both engines.

I didn't hear what Matthes said but he does have a "Balls Out" award, created by one CLMoser, that features a set of bars with some riding pants attached and a HUGE set of nuts hanging out the front.

This is in reference to Matthes saying when a rider is going balls out he unzips his pants and lays his nuts on the tank.

I had heard at one point, that Alessi rode the whoops for hours on end at his place. From the looks of it, practicing wasn't the issue. I think Mike's problem is more bike setup after hearing what Byrne had to say about it.

As for the Stewart incident, I found it so odd that Stewart's bike didn't even budge when Alessi hit it and he looked like he hit it hard. . . Bizarre incident to say the least.

You wouldn't know anything about balls, chicks like you don't have them.
