CRF Air Filter...

Ok...got back from vaca and started working on bike. Bought a new filter. THIS FUCKER WILL NOT SCREW IN.

Is there a secret to getting this nut to latch in? I"m getting fed up.

New filter?
New whatever..

Any help or flames are appreciated

Take up golf. The karts are electric--no difficult "air filter replacement" procedures.

Good...but...the easiest fucking thing to do on a bike...and I can't do it.

I hate golf...plenty of time for that later.

It is tight in there.

Here is what I do on my CRF250. Try and seat the bottom of the filter cage on the airbox lip first, then tilt it forward as you are looking in to line up the bolt. Once you get it in there start to tighten it but not all the way. Once you start to get it snug then you are going to want to turn the filter to the right and you will feel it seat, then tighten it down the rest of the way.

Once you get the technique it will be easier.

BTW.. I replaced my stock filter cage with a twin air screenless one and that made it a lot easier to get in.

You can save your money and just remove the screen from your stock filter cage. Same thing! Minus the cost.

It sure is easy to change the air filter on my KTM's. No tools needed. Takes maybe 30 seconds, if that.

Make sure your arrows are lined up and it's a snap. middle tab on air filter lines up with arrow on airbox. Whats so hard about that?

just mess around with it untill u get a method down. I like to get the bottom on first tilt it back so i can find the bolt eye it up so its in line then put pressue on the bolt and when u feel it click almost u know its found the hole and then tighten it up. took awhile at first but now its a matter of seconds.

Wouldn't you run the risk of sucking the filter in?
I bought a used 450 that had a twin air cage already in. It has several hooks to keep the filter tight over the cage.

Buy a Twin Air filter cage. The stock cage becomes very flimsy when the screen is removed. The Twin Air cage is aluminum, sturdy and is easy to line up. It is worth the $100 investment to avoid sucking dirt. I have seen many riders miss align there stock filters when screen was removed.

It is easier with the Twin Air filter cage. I also got one of the cheap filter bolts with the big heads. It makes it easier to feel the alignment. It was 12 bucks. Less swearing now.

Rumor has it that the 30 second filter job gets dirt in the air boot, which ends up in the motor causing it to lock up.....at least on KTMS owned by midgets!

It may sound extreme but I pull the subframe and airbox when I service the filter. I pull the airbox out of the subframe and it gets fully degreased before I put a fresh filter back in it. With the subframe out of the way, it's super easy to install the filter into the airbox. Doing it this way adds 30-45 minutes to the job but you end up with a factory clean bike every time and you know that not a speck of dirt was accidentally dropped into the intake boot during service.

What about that company that makes the trick aluminum flange deal that bolts onto your airbox and uses a different filter. Sposedly increases HP and makes filter changes simple, looked like a pretty cool product.

I dont remember what its called.

Just put one on my bike (2007 crf 450) and I have to say I was impressed to say the least. Noticable power gain but on a 450 really didn't feel more power was a must. What I was impressed with was the ease of use! No grease, no dirt falling in the air box, quick easy change. This in my opinion will be on many bikes in the future. just my two cents...

Thats the part i was talking about, i just couldn't think of the name at the time. Looks like a pretty cool and innovative product.

I have never had a problem with the filter on my 06 . The big mouth thing looks cool but you would never catch me with a No toil Filter in any of my bikes. Twin Air or stock for me.
