Check out some old gary bailey photos. He helped adapt my style and tall frame to work better. Shoulders forward over bars, leaning forward with back more horizontal rather than focusing too much on squating down with legs/bent knees.

6'6 and change here. I ride an 08 YZ450. I have the fastway lower footpegs and love them. No problem with foot pulling off. I have an RG3 top clamp with their risers on them. Opened it up big time. I had some RC bend renthal bars (which I loved) but made with the risers made the bars so high that the cables need to moved so I stepped down to a bit lower KX high bend Pro tapers. I do ride with taller seat but I do agree that it hurts turning. I like when open riding but don't use when riding tight things. I am also curious if any of you guys have found gear that runs bigger? I currently am running so Thor and it seems to run small IMO.

Hey Bud.

Shift and Fox are small as are thor I think.

I think TLD is pretty true sizing and has room in their gear.. Leg size and length of jerseys etc... Plus you can't beat the quality... Moose definitely does big stuff... And um, Wulfsport. haha

6'-4" here and also running the KX high bend pro tapers. They are very comfortable and any higher and I think they would be awkward.

6'3 here, lower pegs and bar mounts as far forward as they go.

i run regular renthal 998's I hate taller bars they just feel awkward

stock seat too, my normal sized friends who have ridden my bike say it feels open but not abnormal

I'm 6'3 and always run the Fastway pegs in the low position with the short screws. Never had a problem with dragging them or my feet. I run stock bars in the forward position, no risers. Stock height seat as well.
Just have to be careful to keep the legs up and out of trouble.
I have no style to worry about.

Most stock pegs you can cut the collars off and weld them to the top side of the peg, use your left footpeg spring upside down on the right and vise versa. This is essentially how fastwsy pegs work invthe low position.

Use a step seat. Stock height at the front for cornering and 1/2" - 1" taller out back which helps the sitting-to-standing transition anywhere else on the track.

I like Renthal RC-Hi or Pro Taper KX-Hi bars in standard height clamps, neutral rotation with the clamps in a far forward position.

I really like the RC high bend Renthals. I moved them to my yz250 2- stroke that doesn't have risers on and they are great. I liked on the 450 with risers but got tired of the cable problem. Been happy with PT KX bends.

I'm 6'2" and setup my bikes somewhat normal. I run the lower footpegs (stock pegs with the collars moved) but then I actually run low bars with as little sweep as possible. I think right now I have Pro-Taper Universal low bars on my YZ250. I've never liked taller bars because they end of feeling like they sit in my lap. I use a stock seat and have used seat bumps in the past because it's nice to remind myself to sit forward. With long legs it's really easy to sit back on the bike without realizing it.

I still look like a goon though, tall and skinny doesn't go well together. However, every once in a blue moon I look somewhat normal.

I'm 6'3". Setting the bike up for my height is step one. Tall seat (guys......it's only about 1"-2" taller) with a stiffer foam if possible helps me go from sitting to standing without such a burden on my knees. Also...when turning....it helps to not have to push the leg out soooo far.....hard to explain. I would get bar risers (again....don't go taller than 10mm) and stick with the bars that you are used to. Don't go too drastic with anything but make slight changes and it won't hinder the handling all that much. It helps to keep from getting tired ever so much. Don't go crazy when n any one thing. Lowering the pegs has never been that attractive to me.

Suspension set up is very important. Make sure to let the suspension guy know your height and if he doesn't ask....I would find no someone else. They balance things differently when you are tall to accommodate the higher center of gravity although I'm not sure exactly what.

Best tall bike and easiest to adjust so far is the KTM imo. ive had all of the recent brands and they all can be adjusted pretty easily (yes.....including the Honda and Suzuki).

I'm 6' 7" and ride a CR250R Honda, I run a tall SDG seat (love these, foam is nice and stiff as well) Fastway pegs in the lowboy position (down and back a bit) Tall bar mounts rotated to be further forward as well and high CR bars. There used to be a company that sold a modified footpeg mount that was another 1/2 lower but I have not seen those in years. I also run a longer shifter and brake pedal (Hammerhead) to go with the big boots. With these mods the bike is good and the only issues are with the seated to standing position which takes a little more effort. I have never had an issue with the lower pegs dragging in ruts.

2Tall Racing actually makes a kit that I run for KTM and Husky now. I'm 6'7" and it has been great so far. Definitely took a bit to get used to but the more I ride it, the more it makes me think this is what normal people feel like on a bike. Here's a link to the thread I created on the kit:

This! Getting my leg all the way up in some tight turns is no easy task, plus my size 13 boot getting caught in ruts.

I'm 6'1 so on the smaller side of tall, never did the seat or lower pegs. I ran stock honda bend for a long time and this year switched to the rc low bend and I love them. These are from the other weekend.

Do any of you have the problem of when in rutted turns you find the knee of your inside leg is way out in front of the handlebar? And if you dab your foot, your knee comes up and crushes your fingers?

I've always heard to keep your knee behind the handlebar, but having long legs and an 09 YZ250F, it really requires
you to sit on the gas cap to get the darn thing to turn. So my knee is past handlebar and my foot feels like it's a foot
past the axle... the bike will turn good but it's kinda dangerous. So I usually end up sitting mid-seat and dealing with a poor turning bike.

I'm always dabbing my foot down. I don't mind riding a rutted up track but if they get really deep it becomes a problem. I'm just a C class rider so its just my riding ability. I'm sure fast guys don't have that problem. I do think that this is a sport for people under 6'0 for sure. Just too fun to walk away. My fix for dabbing and being tall is buying a good set of knee braces lol. I've been back riding for 2 years now, I've maybe seen 2-3 people the same height or taller then me riding (Here in NC-SC-VA area). But thats at MX tracks since thats all I ride.
