They used to have the fastest qualifier (from single day qualifying) start in the back of the field with a bright colored streamer off the back of their helmets. This helped distinguish them from the rest of the field.
They would get passing points as they came throughout the field

I was at the FIM congress in Munich the year before lobbying FIM officials on behalf of Mike Goodwin's SMC Motorsports to run 2 of the initial rounds, this one at LA Coliseum and also at Wembley Stadium London England. Wembley race had to be cancelled as British ACU (AMA equivalent) wanted a massive sanctioning permit fee.
