Met up with Tony Alessi at Gatorback after the day of racing concluded at the Mini O's as he wanted to mention about a new scholarship program that gives Pro riders an opportunity to race for MotoConcepts Racing with a full ride. Learn more about the program in the video below:

I'm gonna bite...regardless of what anyone thinks about Tony Alessi or MotoConcepts Racing; I think this a cool idea. Give someone that is on the cusp of success a possibility of racing for an established team and getting your bills paid. Cant wait to see how this turns out.

Social media status? Cool..

Nice gig for motoconcepts, but the social status part of the equation is dumb. They might as well give Jerry Robin the ride cause no one has been more creative than that kid to get to legit notoriety. Maybe the kids should run around with some "Believe the hype" T's? SMH

Hopefully the skill level heavily outweighs the social status.

Jerry already has a ride with Geico, plus he is still racing B class. Tony said the rider needs to be racing at A1

Great idea I will be following this one. Lots and lots of pro riders at the end of the road right now !
Most have spent years racing amateur races and countless hours at training facility's only to find out they have been fooled by an illusion of a so called factory ride.

Good on the smart top team on putting something together to help give one of these pro riders a shot at what sounds like a legitimate package of equipment travel and mechanic to do the sx tour and mm nationals.

Nice idea

Some may not understand the social media status part of the equation, but don't under estimate that. That's a lot of extra exposure for motoconcepts, especially if the rider carries himself in the right way. It's a good idea. Good on them for thinking this up and offering it.

Awesome opportunity good luck to the guys competing for the spot . The social media thing is cool but race results IMO will be huge so GL can't wait to see who gets the ride

It's cool but that means people hae to show up at a1 with a bike and be ready to drop it and get on a new one if they win. Not a lot of time for preparation or anything. I think they should just invite everyone to a 1 off SX race to battle it out. Then they could actually have a few weeks on the bike

So they aren't doing anything for the guys on the eastern coast? And IF you get top 12 you get a MX ride? Considering your going it to be up against Pro Circuit, Geico, Troy Lee, KTM, and the Yamaha guys it wouldn't be a given ride they would certainly have earned it

Wow, you have to respect Mike Genova, Tony Alessi and the MotoConcepts crew for this fresh and ingenious approach to assembling their team. It shows a lot of heart and dedication to rebound from the depths of last year's Lazergate debacle in such a forceful manner. Faced with a situation that would have had most team owners folding up shop (especially given MIke's level of frustration with the industry prior to Washougal), instead of taking his ball and going home, Genova clearly put on his thinking cap and reinvented his program.

Their try-out criteria reminds me of the internship program we created at Wonder Warthog Racing back in 2005. We conducted rider try-outs at Competitive Edge that included interviews in which we rated the riders for their social skills and character. By giving weight to a rider's popularity in social media, MotoConcepts is simply acknowledging reality and evolving in a way that will give them maximum exposure for their efforts...more bang for their buck.

Best of luck to Mike, Tony, Mike and crew in 2014 and thanks for supporting our sport!

Could be a golden opportunity for one rider. Maybe Troy Adamitis could put another documentary masterpiece together on this deal. Cool

I like the idea, but I think it would be much more beneficial, and a smoother running program to have everything in place pre-a1. Someone isnt going to hop on a bike in a new environment and excel after 1 week IMO. Best of luck though

Great idea from the MotoConcepts team. I agree with Bauer.....there's a lot of heart and dedication on this team that clearly starts from the top with Genova. The guy has some great insight and different but logical perspectives on SX and MX. His business approach could make a difference for the future of the sport. When was the last time we saw a NEW major sponsor come on the scene? The money to run the different teams has to come from somewhere. We're seeing teams fold......not an increase in the number of teams. What's that say?

I do not know what Jimmy Decotis' program looks like. But if he is in need of one, he pretty much already won this.
Dude rips on an SX track and has more social media followers than Ryan Dungey
