I still can't believe how crazy this is!!!!......

This was a jersey I had back in 1980. Anaheim Suzuki gave it to me when they used to help me out with bikes and parts. The material was a little thick and warm so I think I only wore it a few times, OCIR night races and I think I remember wearing at a CMC Golden State race up north. I don't remember getting rid of it, maybe a garage sale or Goodwill?....

Fast forward 33 years and my buddy Zeke gives it to me at the track today!
Turns out he was on ebay looking for an old vintage Suzuki jersey for a friend. He saw this one with a picture of the front with Anaheim Suzuki on it and thought this might be cool. Then he clicks on the picture of the back and see's Scott 21m, he knew that was my number back in the day and realized that this was an old jersey of mine!

He bought it right there on the spot to surprise me with....crazy part of the story is, the guy he bought it from was in Thailand!

How it ended up there and the crazy chance of Zeke finding it blows me away!... #tothailandandback #anaheimsuzuki #21m #unbelievable #whatarethechances #blownaway #itsbackhome

That's so crazy!

Would've been cooler if it came with a hot Thai chick though

If this was a cat or dog or lost wedding ring, the local news would do a big puff piece on you. Its very The Vital Herald worthy though.Smile

Here’s a good one for ya Jeff. I raced the Rosebowl SX in, I think 1984. Qualified for the show but sucked in the heat and semi but that’s not the story! Fast forward to 1996 or 97 and a friend talks me into going to the Vegas SX finals. While there we sneak into the press box amongst many notable names in the sport. Now the story switches to a David Bailey perspective, try to keep up! David Bailey has this stalker/fan that had been taking pictures of him throughout his career at MANY different stadiums and outdoor tracks. This fan had wanted to give DB this stack of pics for many years but the opportunity hadn’t come up until this one night in Vegas. DB was in the press box going through this stack of probably 30-40 3”x5” pics with his wife looking over his shoulder at the pics. My friend, in the press box with me, decided to stretch his legs and walk around a bit. As he was walking past DB he heard DB’s wife say, “Who’s Fitz-G?” My friend instinctively intervened in their conversation and said, “Fitz-G’s my buddy, he’s sitting over there!”…as he pointed over to me. DB and his wife kinda chuckled and DB said something like, “these are more than 10 year old pics of me racing…..unless your Fitz-G buddy raced with me many years ago, this is someone else.” Next thing I know my buddy is running over to me saying, “David Bailey wants to show you a picture he has that might be you!” I’m thinking, WHAT? Are you kidding? Low and behold this fan of DB’s took a pic of him during the track walk at the Rosebowl (which was the final SX that year…. Wardy won the title) and it looks like DB is pointing right at me. The reason DB’s wife blurted out my name was because she knew all the fast racers (low numbered racers) from that era and I happened to be wearing my locally earned CMC #4 on my Jersey which she didn’t recognize…..hence the “Who’s Fitz-G” comment. Until then I NEVER went to the Vegas final but I happened to that year. I NEVER snuck into a press box, but I did that year. This fan had been trying to give DB those pics for a long time, but it just happened that it was at THAT SX that he gave them to him. DB didn’t have to look at those pics right then, but he did. DB’s wife must’ve barely been able to see my name looking over DB’s shoulder while he was flipping through a stack of pics, but she did. DB’s wife didn’t have to say my name out loud, but she did. My friend didn’t have to be within ears shot of DB and his wife when she said my name out loud, but he was. There were at least 6 or 7 things that had to happen for me to end up with this pic……and they all happened! DB is standing next his dad (The Professor) pointing at a section of track that I happen to be standing on. DB wrote “Dad, look there’s Ian!” Funny thing is…..this is the only pic I have of my racing days with the “Big boys!”

What great stories from both Mxjef & Motoxdoc.

Motoxdox, your picture looks like '85. Bailey's gear kinda looks just like this one (from the '85 Rose Bowl):

Yes! Looking at Bailey's gear in your photo and mine.....looks the same. They didn't do the Rosebowl often if not only once. I was too lazy to look it up, but it's easy enough to figure out because it was when Wardy won over The Golden Boy with that backwards track riding controversy. I think you nailed it with the gear comparison though! I'm going with '85!

Thread of the day! Very cool stories.

That jersey is now frame worthy and will always carry the mystery of it's travels.

So this is kind of weird timing, a friend of mine just posted this pic on Facebook of my new '82 RM250 in a CEET advertisement from when I used to work there....

I wouldn't have given it any thought except for the timing of the jersey deal.
