Recently searching through craigslist when I stumbled upon one of my race bike from 1982 season. I was 17 years old when I last saw this bike! 31 years later it still wears most of the stickers which is what caught my eye, after looking at the bike in person I saw the frame repair which are welder did back in 82. What are the odds? like getting a piece of my teenage years backSmile

Yes, took off early from work that day. I couldn't drive fast enough (1 1/2 drive) still can't believe It's in my garage after all these years! BTW the kid flipping the bird on the rear fender was not mine, but the first 3 were. Smile still has the sprockets and chain/ handle bars I sold it with, under the grips still had the light blue paint I used to keep the grips on (before grip glue)

Did you locate the stem info on here?
Are the seals from the 81 125 the same part numbers, if the stem has corrosion , it can be remanufactured to be better than
New!
I can install ss or bronze sleeves

Incredible story! I'll occasionally search Craigslist postings from back home in hopes of stumbling across one of my old bikes.

What are your plans with it now that it's back in your possession?

Good luck with your old bike. One of the absolute worst bikes I have ever ridden in my life though.

Every time I see a YZ with the radiator on the forks, I just am amazed that RJ nearly won in 82 on one of those things
I don't care how good of a rider he was . They could not have been that bad. But they sure look like they could have been

Agreed, I restored a 83 RM250 back in 08, raced it once at the Hard rock, Ocala AHRMA race. The whole time I was riding it , I was thinking how in the Hell did I win races on that 82 YZ back in the day Smile I guess I didn't know any better !

I might be in touch, I manage to find the NOS upper and lower seals through vintage contacts. I had a 81 YZ125 a few years ago that I rebuilt and had no leaking issues.

How is the restoration process going on this bike?
Rob. Just between us....you need to know that evomx character is riddled with ADD. He is currently working on some Italian "works" bike or possibly something else he picked up last night off of Craigslist.

He will circle back on the YZ about a week before he wants to race it this spring. pull all-nighters to pretty it up, race the hell out of it and win, then sell it a day or two later!

Mike (AHRMA361) knows me well

ADD for sure.

Sell this bike? No way ! it's the only one I will keep.

Update-Getting the the taper bearing race out of the frame was a bitch. A freind put the frame on his end mill and we were able mill the race into 2 pieces. Samething with the bottom bearing on the triple tree. I did get the frame back from powder coating yesterday looks good. So see Mike there's progress being made. I'll post some pics soon

Mike is correct about the Italian "works" bike (2001 TM racing 250) It should be completed sometime next week

lol .. my name is Zac I'm buddies with some of the old Kenworthys associates.. and for a minute there I could have sworn a buddy of mine "Darin" (ex president of Kenworthys) had a similar thing happen to him , or I remember him telling me a story about someone (maybe you?) who had found there old race bike , or maybe I get to many people and stories mixed up lol.

But very cool story none the less Smile

Update-frame powder coated, crank rebuilt, cylinder bored, lots of NOS bits, waiting on spoke kits and my Ohlins shock to comeback from MX-Tech, my hope is to have it ready by the end of month. I'll post pics soon

Either of you two Ohioians remember the PDQ Race team (early 80's) from Windham, OH?

Yes-PDQ team was runned by Pro-Action founder George Guay. I actually found a former PDQ bike about 4 years ago. It was confirmed by George, found it on craigslist.

Does anybody have a copy of the Yamaha wrench report for the 1982 YZ250? I still have the wrench report for the 82 YZ125 but lost the 250.
