I've raced down there three times - 500, 1000 and 2000. Friends around me gave me tons of advice covering all of the typical stuff, and pretty much everything I was advised to watch out for, happened, traps included. But they were always minor jumps, bumps and nothing worth noting, but obvious man-made obstacles.

The details don't really matter with Kurt's life-ending crash. The bottom line is, this element will never be something anyone can control, until this race gets the f*** out of Mexico and into a US territory where this bullshit does not happen. You can't educate an entire society to get them to understand the severity of their actions, they just want to see these guys jump or crash for their entertainment. Most, LOVE the race. Some (land owners), probably do hate it.

But regardless, I would not understand why the OEMs would bother going down there anymore. Just like when we lost Danny, the OEMs need to pull out.

GuyB said it best - I love the history of Baja and what the race means, but the reality sucks horribly. Every single time I've been down there play riding or racing, I've had some of the absolute most memorable times ever, but this puts a huge damper on all of it.

Mexico is a third world country with a third world mentality and third world justice system (none). I see it every day in Texas. Caste system mentality, those that aspire to achieve escape to America, the rest either sell drugs, run from the dealers, profit from crime or come to America to suck from the rest of us.

We could have races like this in the U.S. if all of the PUBLIC lands hadn't been shut down to the people by the Sierra Club and the tree huggers. Just more fall out of the 1960's.

RIP Kurt, another that died too soon doing what we all love. Senseless tragedy caused by ignorance.

Word I got from a team member is that Ivan Ramirez had just handed the bike off to Kurt and was waiting for him to show up on the highway. The team helicopter had broken from the chase to refuel. When Kurt didn't show up at the highway, Ivan rode backwards and found him. He radioed back to the team, "No pulse".

Such a tragic loss for his family, friends and the entire motorcycling community.

I rode with Kurt up by his house a couple times and interacted with him when I worked at KTM many times, he and his dad were so awesome. This just sinks my heart. Rest in peace Kurt, you will be greatly missed. My prayers go out to the whole family.Sad

Rip racer, may the speed of your life serve you well on the other side. Remind everyone to hug a little harder their loved ones today, because in this cruel world, it can all end in an instant.

I'm so bummed right now I can't even see straight. It's these clouds in my eyes. I just woke to this news and can't believe it. I didn't know Kurt too well but had him on one of our shows and was looking forward to interviewing him on Wed for the Penton film.

He was a great guy and I was looking forward to calling him a friend.

He was also one of the most badass mofo's I ever seen on a bike and it was the video below from the ISDE in 2007 that convinced me. Fan forever.

He was America's hope for conquering international off-road racing with Dakar and ISDE but more importantly he was loved by his family, friends, teammates, fans and the industry.

God Speed Mr. Caselli.

I feel for the poor team mates, if rumours are true Ivan was the one who found him. And Toby price who is over there again after breaking his neck at a hare and hound last year, really feeling for those boys and Kurt's family and team.
