Both of these guys have 38 other riders to worry about on Nationals weekends, not so much each other any more.

38 ???

It's a little bit optimistic, I would say...

Whenever Webb is asked about how fast the competition is he always says "yeah they aren't that fast like everyone was saying". he doesn't sound very humble

He seemed pretty humble in that article "The speed, I felt my speed was good. But obviously Ken and Eli’s speed was pretty unmatchable. They are unbelievable." At least to the top 2 guys.

well, in this interview he said

"But obviously Ken and Eli’s speed was pretty unmatchable. They are unbelievable. For me I had some good races and bad races. All those guys are so fast, each weekend it is so different between the guys you are racing depending on if you get a bad start, if you get a good start and the track conditions"

... seems like he respects that people are fast. but, he isnt an amateur now. maybe youre taking it as "not humble" but i would call it confidence. looking at your competitors like they are superior is no way to surpass them... if he has to tell himself that these big names guys are nothing to worry about, then more power to him if he believes it and makes it hold true..

not really sure why but i haven't jumped on the Cooper Webb bandwagon. AC seems like a much more down to earth, humble kid. even if the media does hype him up he surely doesn't act like a hard-ass. i believe AC outscored Webb in the races they competed in together, would have been really interesting had AC raced the entire series.

I love this quote: "the results speak louder than the media."

..and the internets!
Cooper is a really smart kid and I expect that to be the difference. He really reminds me of McGrath the way he rides SX. I know when he was a kid he was a huge MC fan.

Not really. Maybe a few motos. I recall Webb crashing turn one at budds and worked his way I to the top 15 passing ac along the way. Both have bright futures and wouldn't be surprised if one or both gets a championship this year

They're both unreal when it comes to dirt bikes, but IMO there is no way either will win a championship next year. Neither has raced a sx lites main event and AC didn't even podium, I know he was sick and that messed him up really bad but I'd say it'll be 2+ years till either consistent enough to fight for the championship. I do think they'll possibly win motos outdoors and maybe an overall here and there, but '15 they'll be the heavy favorites I bet!

Both are very talented . I'd say for me the fact that there was a rivalry
As amatures made it more intersting to follow them both and there progress
Going pro
.I'm intersted to see if they will be on the same coast in SX
.. imo I see cooper coming out swinging and getting to the podium first
Just a guess .
I'm also hoping the 14 yamaha is a good bike
It needs to be to compete with pc and guico bikes
.as for championships I'd say Dean Wilson
And Marvin M will be very hard to beat indoors and out.

That was AC's first race in the nationals. He missed the first handful of rounds.

They were pretty equal (points wise) when AC came into the series after missing 4 rounds.

Does anyone here think that because AC rides/trains with a faster group of guys that it's going to come into play next season???

And on another thought, remember, Alessi used to hand RV his ass... look how that turned out Wink I'm a fan of both, they have both shown some real speed, and fight, at times.

I think of Jeremy Martin as Webb's rival as a pro. Same team, similar results, both rookies, both obvious contenders in 2014.

Maybe Adam C was his rival, but as a pro it doesn't seem to have translated well. Hopefully AC will be better this year, but I'd say he's not in Martin and Webb's league yet. You can't put him with the Yamaha boys based on potential, amateur results, or HYPE (believe it?).

The more interesting question would have been one which included Martin.

Mike Alessi outscored Villopoto before they turned pro.

So did Jason Lawrence. Their last year at LL Jason won 5 of 6 motos against RV... the 6th being when he stalled, while leading, and couldn't start his 450. What i'm saying is clearly the transition from AM to PRO can change things drastically.

It seems that the Pros are just as much about dedication and drive, where amateurs can get a long way on talent. We've seen a lot of talent go to waste.

That's a good point! Maybe some of the kids are burnt out by the time they turn pro.

I hope there's a kid out there who hasn't raced before, got home schooled, babie'd growing up, etc etc, and still shows up in the AMA series and puts a dent in the results.

I am a firm believer amateur nationals and amateur racing doesn't mean anything. no matter how big LORETTAS is.
