One of his sponsors' father is on my Facebook and he says Villopoto never saw the white flag while battling with Stewart...

I believe that, it's not like He hasn't seen the Red Cross flags a time or two either.

Yep, I saw that, too. He was pretty well laser-focused on James.

I won't be surprised if Joker Lane is gone next year. Villo already said he didn't like it before the race, then to miss it, crash, and lose the event because of it (assuming he would have won it if it weren't for the crash). A guy like RV probably has enough pull riding for the title sponsor to get it 10-6'd from the 2014 race.

Aside from the Red Cross flag thing, didnt RV miss the white flag one time before.....or maybe the checkers came out and he thought it was the white flag and kept going...Want to say it was 2012 but I remember a similiar..... Not sure what is worse, missing the lane entirely or not seeing the white flag....I am a fan of RV and hope he is ok after that spill

I think what happed in RV's case, is he was in the battle and just didnt see the flag, more so than him forgetting the joker...If he thought he had one more lap, he probably planned on taking it then.....the crash probably had nothing to do with either just a mistake.....Dungey, was so caught up in trying to battle and beat RV....I think he lost concentration and he just forgot to take the joker lane entirely as his reaction certainly showed that...

To me, the "joker lane" is the on thing you would think would stick...aside from the 3 race format, the joker is the feature that makes this race so unique

He's blown a corner and then skipped an entire jump filled straightaway or two to re enter the track. FTE says the paint fumes are flowing.....Tongue

I think all of us have missed a flag or two while racing (all six people that have actually raced before on vital).

What is the point of the joker lane anyway??? To slow down clearly faster riders? To have élite focused riders in the heat of battle make mistakes? Then get penalized for it? Give slower riders a Chance? Make it harder for a dominate rider to win the Million? I think the joker lane is a joke...It ruined one of the best battles to the finish of two of the fastest riders on the planet that we have been waiting on all year...I personally think it had a hand in RV's crash...He realized he had missed it and became unfocused on the most dificult section of the track...

The joker lane neads to stay. I realize it ads a little bit of circus comedy to what we all hopefully view as a professional sport, but when it comes to the fans it adds a ton of excitement and drama. And THAT my friends is good for the sport.

The joker lane is just an element to make things "different"...to make the MEC stand out from the norm and after this weekend it certainly has done so....Its a one off event and I think its neet for the MEC to have it...its part of what makes the race unique....but having Joker lanes in the SX series would be lame......Every rider has to take it once, so whether your RV or Chisolm, you have to take that lane.....

Bluelion-First off love your avatar. I saw a double feature of Easy Rider and Wild in the Streets when I was 13 or 14. Did you know Phil Spector (who is currently serving time for murder) played the role of the Rolls Royce chauffeured drug dealer at the beginning of Easy Rider?

The point of the joker lane is having something different on the course. The MEC's purpose is to provide an avenue to try new things whether it be track design, race format or electronically controlled starting gates. The only way I would want to see the joker lane go away would be if they were replacing it with one mandatory pit stop where the bikes have to be serviced IE refuel or one wheel swap.

Would I want to see this become mandatory? Probably not but then again I haven't experienced a pit stop in the middle of a race either.

Thanks for the compliment on my avatar choice...I understand trying to be different.. But different is not always better. Especially when you try to much different...I.e. if the change creates a dangerous situation? Like the start....Like the electronically controlled gates. Creates more opportunity for mechanical malfunction? Joker lane.. Ruining great battles...

The dude was battling one of the fastest racers to ever live, and just MIGHT have missed the flag... I mean, is there something to gain by skipping it and getting penalized?

I've missed a flag and I think I was going for a plaque and free air filter at he time.

Geniuses, everyone here I tell ya!

the joker lane didnt ruin anything, the guy that missed the joker lane ruined the race...

its a different line on the track, the rules next year could be that you must take the joker lane on the last lap of your race. what difference does that make? if all the guys have to take the same line, the only guy that ruins the race is the guy that missed the new line.
