Anyone that considers eating meet an enemy of the body and to training, should read this article. Certainly he had corrective surgery, several times, but his body never seemed to heal properly "The Mountain Man" as he was called, started healing and had more playing time once he added meat back into his diet. It was quite the topic back in the day, at how he was healthier and was on the floor more, once he returned to being a carnivore...Coincidence...maybe...
Now, I might not be the most healthy person in the world, but I've come to the conclusion that genetics will kill you at 60 before a couple bad meals will.
I also wonder how much if this "scientific herbal supplement research" followed by testimony is actually scientific or more a mix of placebo effect and confirmation bias mixed with a skewed "scientific" study who's only real purpose is to sell you a product.

Thanks for the tip I am going shopping for some Tumeric today.
I've been taking a one a day vitamin, glucosamine, fish oil, magnesium, way to much ibuprofen, and 2 glasses of red wine every day and try to eat a somewhat healthy diet (which includes red meat) Not sure what even helps or hurts me anymore
BTW I drink no alcohol at all. I don't like the taste of the shit nor can I stand corn, okra, squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, or most other veggies. Although I do like all beans and potatoes.
The injuries, however, didn't stop
Besides pointing out there wasn't a correlation between not eating meat and injuries what is your point? For the record with the except of veal and goose and duck pate' I don't have any problem with what people choose to eat. i won't however sit at the same table as someone that is eating veal or pate'. What these creatures go through just so we can eat veal and pate' is beyond cruel IMHO.
less acidic, makes your blood alkaline.
Recent pulp mx interview with Jeff Stanton claimed changing to vege diet at the later years of his career was a bad choice.
Great post, thanks for the info 'Rock'
Piperine in Black Pepper Improves Curcumin Bioavailability
A report published in the October 1992 issue of the journal Clinical Pharmacokinetics may explain why the above-described studies (and other studies) have found turmeric and curcumin to perform somewhat poorly in in vivo studies: curcumin cannot be utilized effectively in the human body because of poor bioavailability. The poor bioavailability of turmeric and curcumin in turn is believed to result from the rapid metabolism of curcumin in the liver and intestinal wall.
But there may be a simple way to boost the effectiveness of turmeric and curcumin: season your turmeric-containing dish with a dash of black pepper! The 1992 paper also reported that when curcumin was given to rats in combination with piperine, its bioavailability increased by 154%. When human volunteers were given a combination of curcumin and piperine, instead of pure curcumin, the bioavailability of curcumin increased by a whopping 2000%! Moreover, the addition of piperine was found to enhance the serum concentrations of curcumin and the extent of its absorption, both in the test animals and the human volunteers.
You can buy Tumeric suppliments with black pepper in it.

There is a store in Kahului (also known as "town" to us upcountry people) Alive and Well that you can look up on the web. They offer killer shipping off island but I am not sure if they sell the Tumeric I take. I usually get it to Down to Earth but don't think they offer shipping like Alive and Well. I haven't seen him as I am not in there frequently but Woody Harrelson goes to Alive and Well.
Keep us posted....everyone I have turned onto Tumeric is still taking it.
BTW, I love Maui geography. I contemplated many times if I could live there or not (with young kids). If I can ever afford to go anywhere, we always end up on Maui. I prefer south Kehei, but we lately have been in North Ka'anapali. We explore, hike (Pipiwai Trail is my lifelong favorite thought it has gotten too commercial and crowded), beach-bum, we don't just stay at a resort and pick our noses. We are headed back in 1 year, 3 months. I know tourists that actually explore drive the locals nuts, we do our best to mind local habits and be respectful.
Anyway, thank you for the info on Turmeric!
Regarding living here with a family I hear you. Food cost is a major issue plus travel back to the mainland is not cheap either. Pros and cons with everything. Have a good weekend and good luck with the Tumeric.
BTW I tell my friends and doctors/strangers who ask "is it worth it?" that if you had a magic wand that could erase all of my injries and give me a body with no aches and pains BUT at the expense of erasing a lifetime of racing experiences I would say NO THANK YOU.
Maybe there is a god.
From The Onion...
MARIN, CA—Admitting that the odd lifestyle change was not something they’d ever choose for themselves, sources close to local man Andrew Gosselin confirmed Wednesday that the 35-year-old is currently trying out some sort of fad diet where he eats flavorful meals that make him feel good. “Andrew’s on this weird thing where he can only eat food that’s made with fresh ingredients and that leaves him feeling healthy and energetic,” said friend Luke Abramson, describing the “ridiculous, totally high-maintenance” regimen that requires Gosselin to consume balanced dishes that are wholesome and satisfying but don’t result in the software programmer becoming bloated, uncomfortable, or fatigued. “He must see the strange, skeptical looks everyone gives him whenever he's eating nutritious and full-flavored foods, but he actually seems to be into it. It's really bizarre to have lunch with someone who eats like that.” Abramson added that Gosselin's trendy diet couldn't last much longer, as it required the man to perform such exhausting and onerous tasks as going to the store, picking out fresh produce, and bringing it home roughly once a week.
Hope I get two more treatments in before I leave at the end of the month which would be 14 stings in one treatment along with acupuncture. When I get back if I want to resume the treatment I have to go back to starting off with 2 stIngs and build from there. The way I am feeling now I think I'll just continue exercising I won't have to go to do the BVT any longer.
And yes Virginia it hurts like a mofo but the gain is worth the pain.
