Is he going to be the real deal? In my opinion I believe he is going to be the next one, He is more aggressive in the turns than anyone on the circuit. He rides at 250F like a beast and if he can harness the 450s power and ride it like the 250 he will be the one to beat. Any thoughts ?

I agree with you. Eli has a work ethic that rivals most anyone else partially because of his Dad's influence and partially because he just flat wants it so bad. He's no rockstar prima donna, and doesn't bitch and moan about the bike and "bike setup" like most of his competitors. He had a little issue transfering to the 450's this past SX season, but I look for him to be an instant threat for a podium this year. He's only gotten better and faster...

his only hope was signing with ktm...to ride a dungey replica....to be able to beat rv....

I hate hypotheticals. If I could gauge this one, I try to think of the latest 'really big thing' rider and how they were doing at this point in their career. I don't think even Villopoto was as fast as Eli at this stage. The only bad thing was, RV's first year on the 450 had me thinking he wasn't going to be as fast as hoped and look at him now. Hopefully Eli will have a smooth transition to the 450s. I would love to see someone throwing RV elbows at every race keeping it exciting.

exactly just because your a star on a 250 doesn't guarantee you'll be one on the 450, time will tell

He has the work ethic and the skill. But there are always the "unknown", like this weekend for example. I hope he does well with his transition to the big bike. I certainly enjoy watching him.

Didn't he practice on a 450 the past few years because he lives at altitude?

I thought I read that he does most of his training on a 450.

he will probabl need one year to really get used to it, Roczen may be faster, he has always been racing with older guys switching bikes and stuff. I hope the kroc tomac war continues on the 450s, that second mxon race was just too much fun to watch

I agree. Until Tomac crashed in the first race, they were giving each other the business too. I would love to see even more events where all the top riders from around the world lined up. That would generate some serious fireworks. I sure wish Villipoto and Herlings had been healthy and able to race yesterday.

Another point that hasn't been mentioned a lot today is the fact that the 250's sort of dominated yesterday. Even Cairoli was supposedly on a 350.

His second moto ride before the crash was something I might have never seen. Really amazing some of the lines he took. He could just as easily gone 1-1 with a little luck.

Tomac is a bad dude, but it will take a BIG change in speed and starts to run with RV

(ps... don't give me the 'he goes just as fast on his 250' bs either, riding a factory 450 like RV is going to take a lot)

Agree with you all. But let's face it he is our new hope. As far as I'm concerned conners are where RV kills all competitors and if Tomac can take the 450 beast like he does his 250 we could have some real good racing this year. He has some work to do on starts he has never been a good starter but he can make it happen during the race with his pit bull like corner speed

Only time will tell. Not in his rookie or second year in MX1 I don't think. I honestly think Barcia was faster and a better racer than Tomac and Barcia will be on his second year when Tomac comes up. So that's what I'm expecting next year,
RV,RD&JB on the podium most of the time with a sprinkle of Stewart and Milsaps. Tomac in the top ten.

I say they turn the 250 into a 270 and let Eii loose on the 450s..yeah, that's the ticket!

350s - oh that'll never work ;-)

I believe Tomac has what it takes to be a future 450 champion.

He is one of those guys that always finds a way to the front.

I truly believe you will never see a 350 on the top step of a podium of an AMA championship under the current class structure. A top rider will not agree to ride a 350 because they can effectively use a 450. And if they're not a top rider, then they're not going to end the season on the top.

As for Tomac, I'm a believer. I believe he is as determined as RV. He genuinely loves the sport and everything involved. His family has taken the right angle to raising and training him.

From interview with Cairoli

Lastly, you rode the 450SX-F at the final Grand Prix and went back to the usual 350 here. What are your views on changing for 2014?

I don’t think I will switch. We have some good parts to try for the bike and we will see. My preference is towards the 350 and I would say it is 70-30 in favor of it for 2014.

Eli Tomac has a lot of upside and his fitness is a lot better than RV during RV's rookie 450F season.

It will be an interesting time. I don't expect them to win next year but it looks like we could be transitioning to a Tomac/Roczen era at the top of the sport.

RV has lots of years left, it will be interesting to see if he hangs around to fight against this new crop as they come into their prime.

The best thing I see Eli doing is the way he hops stuff, keeping the bike light into turns... He stands so much and really lets the bike float... RV does the same.

Dungey needs to watch it!!!

yeah, can he ride a big-bore 250, or something like that. It does'nt have to be a 450 right? Not that he would, but just for conversation.

I will share my side of it without throwing insults.. mm-kay? I said 'fast' as in speed. I didn't say anything about titles and trophies. Tomac has repeatedly qualified as fast and sometimes faster than all of the guys on 450s (including current RV). Eli was pretty amazing at MXoN on a 250 as well. I am an RV fan, he grew up an hour from my house. RV never posted speeds that Tomac has on a 250. I never said Tomac was 'better' than RV at this stage, he just has had some speed at times that I don't think RV showed.

rv posted faster lap times than 450s while he was on a 250 as well. thinking hes going to be blazing fast on a 450 because he can post a faster lap time on a 250 makes zero sense. if he was lined up in the 450 class on a 250 i guarantee he wouldnt come out on top.

That's what I see also. I'm sure both RD's will get something out of last weekends race.
I also doubt he will be able to adjust his style and not lose a little something along the way.
