Best seven hundred bucks plus you can spend if your bike doesn't have a steering dampener.

I've never felt like I needed one for motocross but if I raced desert races or WORCS or whatever, I'd probably sell my first-born to get one.

i have run one of these for 3 years now, easily the best damper out there, ( i have run GPR and WER in the past) the new mounting system is awesome, being under the bars and out of the way,

once you get used to using a steering damper its hard to go back to not having one,

I have tried them all at one time or another. RTT leaked..GPR leaked...the Honda that mounted in the front had no affect.

Ohlins& Scotts had the most affect. Hated it for MX but loved it in Baja on those looonnggggg sandy silty roads where the front hunts continously!

Being a long time Maico rider I didn't experience headshake until racing my CR500 up the uphill at Carlsbad and I was like WTF was that! Shortly there after I made the Ohlins purchase from Scott's (1988) and then later transferred it to my HoT 95 CR250 Honda and used it until I sold the bike in 2001.

The thing was a Godsend everywhere but on Mammoth's back stretch I could really feel the dampener working at hi speed.

On my MX bikes when I got headshake I added a bit more sag to the rear and the problem usually went away

How Much does it raise the handlebars?
That was the problem with my old one,it raised them too high even with lower profile bars.
Just never got used to it.
I do have to admit that in the rocks or sand at speed it is the shit.

I love the damper on my CRF, although it took a slight proprietary modification it's as firm as any $700 unit, but you don't feel it on the track until you need it.

no frame mods needed, you replace the top steering head bearing race with the ohlins unit which has the mount on it, so no drilling or welding the frame,

it does not raise the handle bars at all, much slimmer than the older scott's version,

I hadn't looked at the bottom two photos closely until your post and thanks for the 411. I have never swapped out the top steering head bearing race but I like the sound of no drilling or welding.

Funny, I'll ONLY run Scott's or Ohlins. On the other-hand, I only run'em when my team-mates "have to have one"...

In the Big Picture: They are a band-aid.

Note: feel free to throw me under the bus...I've only learned chassis set-up the HARD WAY...

1984 CR500

1986 & up KX500

Mammoth Bears to V2R wins...it's all in How you set up your bike.

But, I could be wrong.

I have a Scott's, besides gas the best thing to happen to a bike (KTM anyway).

I paid about $575, but I'll bet know I could find one 4 under $500.

Don't like that price, the Scott is golden enough.

I'm with you on this.....set up is everything. That is why I mentioned sag before...or raise and lower your forks or _____________

I ran one in Baja on fun rides for the sole purpose of dealing with those long bulldozed new baja roads that have ruined the ride south when you must get from point A to B as it is getting fkin dark and late LOL.

The one I want on my 300 is for the desert and I am now 61 (still fit) but when a rock jumps out in front of me Hahahah perhaps it just might save my ass!!! For technical riding it comes off.

I have a modification that puts more control on the shim stack and makes the bypass adjuster more sensitive. Shoot me a PM if you want to know more.

That KTM kit fits a lot of KTMs, they now have a new lower bracket that fits the dungey editions which includes, the 13-14 stockers.

You've never felt like you needed one, because you're not going fast enough.
