1) Adopt FIM course specs for MX jump size and spacing. We just adopted their sound levels which were an excellent idea so let's take a lead from the people who started the sport of MX to improve safety.
2) Use 2009 as the year to have SX tracks like the one we had at A2 this year. We need more technical sections (off camber, sand sections, flat turns instead of bowl turns) instead of having the course be 99.9 percent whoops & jumps.
3) Hold Nationals on Saturday to provide the best racing surface to the riders who go the fastest.
4) Do not hold any more Nationals at night.
5) Lower the speeds on sections directly after the first turn to reduce the chances of another Alessi Red Bud type incident.
6) Introduce lights at National track like are used in SX to let the riders know they're approaching a situation. Since they're held during the day use white strobe lights like on runways.
7) Reduce the number of SX type obstacles on National tracks to keep the outdoors from becoming SX tracks outdoors.

9) Anchor tied to Stewarts fender
9) Anchor suggestion would be for SX only since James won't be racing any Nationals in 2009.

1. Rookies and regional level riders. 250F
2. Riders pointed out of class 1 and satellite level riders. 250F
3. Riders pointed out of class 2 and what are the top 10 riders in lites & mx now. 450F
It makes a more proper pecking order and would tighten up the field.
Also change up the format and amount of riders in each class.
Helps the racing and doesn't spread the purse so thin.
I like the american tracks better then the European style. I say no way on this one.
"4) Do not hold any more Nationals at night. "
Nothing wrong with having one night race. Mixes things up a bit.
"7) Reduce the number of SX type obstacles on National tracks to keep the outdoors from becoming SX tracks outdoors."
I think your right to a curtain point but the sport has evolved. Nothing wrong with making the nationals a little more jumping. The current tracks are fine.
For every top rider you know of, how many dozens of amateurs get hurt in almost every state due to massive doubles and triples?
CRF250rider-More sand sounds good!
2.)More rider designed tracks
3.)Off cambers in sx
4.)small whoops in corners, they did it in the 90's, and have a time or 2 recently.
5.)More night races
Pit Row
A very technical sand track on the series would be neat.
Just my .02.
Ok it doesn't improve the courses, but I threw it in there anyways because I love watching the nationals.
my brother and rich winkler put a lot of thought into their tracks, come up with designs, amounts of dirt, measure everything, there is a lot of brain work into building a safe fun track. That's still enticing to ride, not everyone wants a flat track.
S
the years they were running the long downhill start at budds were epic for the fans, and I venture to say much safer for the riders. If you gotta have a pinched first turn like southwick (and the new budds start), you shouldn't let the 450's get up into 4th gear WFO before they are hitting a 40 man pileup in a corner.
The triples need to be so big that only the best guys are jumping them and that still would not be every lap.
They need to bring back the Tunnels and the stand sections.
They need more obstacles that will separate the men from the boys.
The tracks are a lot less dangerous right now and look at how many riders are hurt ?
As far as track design only qualified builders should build the SX for sure. The Nationals should not have SX type obstacles. It should be natural terrain like the Saddle back and Carlsbad days. Remember when a T-Rex would chase you down Banzai Hill!
Low Db limits.
In the outdoors, have a 125 class for new pros, make it a single 20 minute sprint moto.
Stop grooming the tracks. Make sure there are multiple lines available before the racing begins, but except for the starting line and things that are downright dangerous, keep the tractors off the track.
Although adding sand seems to be the latest thing, I really do think that different tracks should have different types of dirt. This can also make the racing more exciting, look at how certain riders in the past did really well at specific tracks. Today only Southwick has such a pull. Make at least 1 round with hard pack, blue groove, near-asphalt like conditions like Carlsbad was. How about a grass track, or one with multiple mud sections?
As far as SX, I personally would like to see tracks more like A2. The others were just too tame. Triples should not be jumped by 250f riders that cant even make the main and 450s at 1/2 throttle. Whoops should seperate the men form the boys.
Now, as far as local tracks, those should be tamer.
