I'll find someone to hold your umbrella on the gate. I'll try to make it a 'she', but....

Jess, a lot of stars would have to align, but any umbrella holders that were willing and able, would be greatly appreciated!

I'm almost 38 and I race with the Over The Hill Gang in CA. They have classes all the way up to 60 and some of those geezers straight up haul the mail!!!!! It's a great club and they do a fantastic job of moving people into the correct class to prevent sand bagging. There will ALWAYS be complaints from some people but in my opinion, that club does a superb job. Lots of great moto people that have been involved with the sport for decades. No kid classes (other than a gate or two of "support") means you're not at the track for 16 hours to get to ride 8 laps total. It's a blast.

I'm 45 and pushing 250lbs all geared up. I manly do open practice days and haven't raced in a few years. Last year I picked up a 03 CR250 as a back up bike. I have so much fun on that two stroke it's my main bike now at the track. I still enjoy getting into a battle with a complete stranger on the track. I don't have pro speed but I can hit all the jumps, rail the ruts and ride a wide line. A lot of people are surprizer when they find out I'm an old fat fart tapping it out on the track.

I am actually in the same pickle as the OP of this thread. My only problem is that outside of the few tracks, there isn't any place left to ride Sad For example, if I buy my kid a bigger bike, we don't have any places left for him to "learn to ride". I don't think a track is a place to learn. I would love to get back into the sport again, but without any place but a track to go, I can't justify the expense of getting back into the sport. ( I am on the Eastside of Seattle BTW).

We went to the night races at Pacific Raceways last night and it is so fun to see a lot of my old buddies and all of the kids out tearing it up, it burns me not to be out having fun myself, but I have to be realistic.

I'm 53 and ride MX every weekend with my 22 year old son here in Oklahoma. I started riding when I was 12 but took off during my 30's to raise a family. I'm pretty much a professional practice rider. I'm in good enough shape that I ride four 30 minute motos every time out. I ride 30, rest 30, ride 30, etc. We ride at Reynard's 80% of the time. Current bike is a 13 KTM 450. I put over 100 hours on my bike a year, all MX.

Riding MX is a significant part of my life and I get to spend a lot of time with my son. The friendships formed in the pits is not to be discounted. Us old guys have a blast during our pit time. I've made good friends.

It's also a blast riding at Reynard's as we get to ride with Robbie, Trey, Bogle, Albertson and even Jimmie Mac when he's not too hung over to show up. Robert Reynard Sr. is still fast and has become a good friend.

I couldn't imagine not riding. Here's a couple pictures from Reynard's and Sweet 16 MX in Muskogee, OK.

I'm 43 and getting back into racing after a long time off the MX bike. Like many other here I quit when the career and kids took top priority but now that my oldest boy is riding I'm getting back into it as well. I'll be racing at Budds Creek at the end of September and I'm pretty jazzed up about it.

I get a kick reading posts about how expensive MX bikes cost to buy, run and maintain. I guess it's all relative. I see one positive of participating in our sport is just how little it costs. At "our" age a number of us old guys have disposable income which is why there are so many of us.

I also run a tube frame GTA road race car. MX is damn near free compared to running a fast, safe and reliable race car...

racing since 1974... race MX in the UK and Supermoto in Germany.. the key to success is maintaining a level of respectable mediocrity... getting too good is a recipe for disaster

48 now.... i was too old at 38 , so whats another year..

I will be turning 51 in a couple of months. I had a mini bike as a kid, and later had a few friends with dirt bikes that I got to ride once in a while.

When I turned 42 and my son was 10, I bought us both MX bikes (YZ250F and a KX65). Hands down best decision I ever made as a parent, we have had a blast riding together over the years.

My son started college this year, but I still ride, just not as much. I try and get to the track at least a couple times a month (riding, no racing). It still motivates me to keep in shape. And I still love it!

Glad I found this thread. I am 37 and have been out of the game for about 10 years now, same reasons as a lot of you, family/money/job. I have been wondering how many people like me do this and it seems like a bunch. Thanks for all the info. I have been shopping for a bike and doing some research on gear. I can't wait to get back on a bike!

39 and looking at getting another bike. Had bikes through my childhood and late teens. Bought one 1 1/2 years ago and sold it a year later just didnt have the time. But the few times I did get to ride were worth it looking back. I just like having one around. Great stress release. 4 year old son already has a bike. Looking forward to getting back into riding again.

Sounds like Vital needs to have a 40+ ride day. Laughing

42...stopped riding for 20 years and got back into it when I was 35.

Don't race much anymore but still hit the tracks every weekend....and slow as S#&T.

Been on a bike since early 80's. Been off for 2 years and it is driving me nuts. I just turned 40 and I have not owned a fuel injected bike yet. I have been riding an 05 crf450 and it has been a great bike until it started having some gremlins towards the end and I ended up with a broken hip which healed fast. I had plans of a new bike this year but my daughters schooling is expensive and the rest of life. The bad part is that I have never been this non active in my life. I have been pounding sodas and snikers bars like crazy since I quit riding. I keep telling myself to get back in shape but I have zero motivation with out riding. I used to run like Forest, wakeboard, surf, mtb, kiteboard etc non stop but it was all just to be in shape to ride and when the riding stopped, the rest seemed to stop. My 2014 new years resolution is to get back in the gym and a new bike. For some reason at 40 I still have the mind set to jump everything with in a few laps but after surfing some huge waves and realizing how out of shape I got and old I am after almost drowning a few times I may need to slow it down on the track too. I have recently started playing on my little pitbike track some and really plan on getting back to racing form. Maybe a new bike from Santa this year too. Woohoo

I'm +45 and I still take my MX real serious. I don't get to practice or race very often but when I do I feel like I'm 20 years younger. Thanks to ChronicMX for getting this whip pic.

46. My body aches every morning and night from my 33 years of riding. But, I still ride as often as I can afford and have time to. Just taught my youngest girl (11) to ride over Thanksgiving break. I still have a 3yr old son too so it looks like I will be riding for a long time.

I'm 39 (40 in a couple months). I am a bigger fan of MX/SX now than when I was racing hard. Now I ride, tracks only, when I can. I'd like to ride more, but that time and money thing can be a real bitch.

54 and still playing weekend warrior...lol. I still justify spending thousands on riding each year while pretending I can't afford to paint my living room.

I'm 51 and try to get to a track every weekend with my 16 year old son!
Go to California to ride with good friends as much as possible and race once a year at the vet nationals.
Both knees are shot with the medial meniscus blown out of both of them, but I just try to not push too hard and have fun!
I have almost as much fun as I did racing when I was 21!
After blowing out my knee in 1985 I quit for 8 years.
A good friend got me started again in 1993 and I haven't stopped since!

Used to race every weekend in my mid to late 20s...Don't race much anymore ....maybe 1 or 2 times a year the last 10+yrs but im 43 and still ride at least 3 days a week (during summer months) on my back yard SX track! Never to old for MX unless you believe it.
