Uncleof2, I have been a fan of RV since he was on 80s. Used to drive hours to Perris and other tracks in CA just to watch when he was in town on his 80. If the fact I'm disapointed in him choosing not to ride MXDN doesn't make me a "true fan" then so be it. But the fact remains... This is the biggest race of the year for fans, he is arguably the fastest rider in the world right now, and he is choosing not to go. I can understand that an injury needs to be addressed, but it's honestly difficult when we're seeing him on TV winning by 30 seconds.

The fact I'm disapointed just demonstrates I'm a fan. And the fact I don't blindly praise everything an athlete does demonstrates I'm not a "fanboy". There is a difference.

7 days later than what? MX here ends on 24 Aug - MXoN isn't until 29 Sept. MEC is Oct 19 so if RV decides to go he basically has 2 weeks to recover and a couple of days to prepare for it. I'd say that drastically affects his chances at MEC. Not hating on Herlings or AC, just wish they'd come over to do some battle. If they're hurt, I stay don't bother, we want you at you best, you'll certainly need it. It would be great to see RV in the MXoN again, but plan B may still be a winner...wouldn't be the first time.

Can we just stop already with the "biggest race of the year" talk? It's NOT. It still matters of course...but it's merely an exhibition at this point to showcase some talent, race for some bragging rights, and to put on a show for the fans. Only a handful of countries can contend year in and year out, the factories barely care about supporting it anymore, and I think more riders than would like to admit...have lost interest. This gig is a J-O-B job...all year round!! People say..."OH RV, he's only in it for the money"...you fuggin' right he is!?!? What do you do YOUR job for? So if during the grueling year long cycle that is his JOB, he gets a window to go take care of his health and fix something that is bothering him...that's HIS choice. MXoN or not...I can assure you he's not losing any sleep over it, and he's not breaking any obligations to anyone by taking care of this at this time. Especially the "fans"....most of which aren't even RV fans, they're haters that are seething at the chance to see the fastest man in the world get taken down in an unfamiliar environment so they can achieve shit talking greatness. I'm betting that Monster, being the MXON sponsor...and the fact that they DO want Villopoto there, will put enough pressure on the forces that are trying to keep him from doing the race that they will eventually let him go. Plus he's the only rider that can go head to head with Herlings & Cairoli on such a fast, hardpack (if it doesn't rain) track.

I'm betting our team to be Dungey, Villopoto & Tomac, with Barcia as a backup.

it pulls a pretty biggest crowd of any mx race in the world, no matter, i would call it the biggest race in the year due to that fact alone, , but its not the most important from a riders point of view, RV's bounses comes from the US MX and SX series, those are his most important races to him, and his bank account,

Irvine, Calif. (August 12, 2013) – Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto will undergo surgery immediately following the 2013 AMA Pro Motocross finale at Lake Elsinore. Villopoto currently leads the outdoor championship by 44 points and is looking to claim his second 450cc AMA Pro Motocross Championship in three years.

“It is always a tough decision to go in and have surgery,” said Villopoto. “But just like my Monster Energy Kawasaki team works hard to give me the best bike possible, I have to make sure I’m at my best as well. The hardest part of this decision is the timing. I was really looking forward to racing the Motocross of Nations again this year, but I won't be fully prepared in time for MXoN and I don’t want to give less than 100% to Team USA. The MXoN is always a highlight of the season and it is an event that has helped to define my career.”

Following his recovery, Villopoto will begin preparing for the 2014 Monster Energy Supercross season where he is looking to become only the second rider in series history to win four straight titles. This summer Villopoto is looking to claim his second 450cc AMA Pro Motocross title and has six overall wins and 14 moto wins.

Newsflash

RV is not the fasted rider in the world. The last time he raced the best riders in the world and won was back in 2011.

He missed MXDN 2012 so the label "fastest man in the world" does not apply. Maybe if he lines up next year and wins, you can all start calling him that again. Until then, it's just ifs buts and whatevers.

I thought the US was a lock to win with RV. Now they should still be the favorite but it will be tough. Especially if the Dungey that raced Unadilla shows up. As a Dungey fan it was quite frustrating watch RD follow Grant and then Wiemer for more than half the race. RV and ET are animals out there and pass guys quickly and easily. If RD gets good starts he will be fine but coming through the pack is certainly not his strength.
