While watching the Dilla National the commentators kept referring to that portion of the track has the Wall - dang when did they change the name. I have always known it to be the Screw U section! Perhaps I'm wrong........no I am not wrong

I believe "the wall" is what they call the uphill and jump coming out of screw u. I'm sure NBC was against Emig saying screw "you" repeatedly.

All thru the 70's, it was "screw you".

And the place across the street,
where they burned bikes, cars, and partied without Law,
was called "the hill."

Just walking along the fence of the Screw-U is challenging.

I love going to that place. Although things have been altered through the years, it's still sick to see them incorporate portions of the natural terrain that made that place what it is.

the wall is not used anymore, it went up the hill by the am pits and came back down, (oppisite of screw u)up & down instead of down & up,it was after the man made table and its a left hand u turn at the base of what was the wall wich is now a grassy spectating area.

If I remember correctly, in the 70's what is now "Gravity Cavity" was called the "Screw U". There was a picture possibly in MXA with the caption saying something like it was the promoter's attempt at a classier name by calling it "Gravity Cavity" instead of "Screw U". The picture showed a large sheet spray painted Screw U hanging off the fence. It was back when the two apple trees were still at the top and scaffolding was aloud.
The details of my trips there in the late 70's and early 80's have always been a bit fuzzy so I could be wrong.

I was flagging there Saturday on top of both sides of the "Screw U" section....First practice the 450 group A literally barely made it up that hill, with some not making it up, after that section of track was mechanically roughed up to dry it out early. TV does not even come close at representing how steep that is!!!

The best part is that they cannot get the bulldozers on the "Screw U" section..... Looks tough !!!! I cried every time they groomed the Unadilla track. Best motorcycles EVER, fittest riders EVER, and MX Sports and the AMA keep overly grooming the race tracks. The only thing more stupid is "timed practice".

Its funny because I would prefer the GP's to revert to timed qualification again

Maybe not the same format as they use for the Outdoor Nats which are quite rushed due to the one day format, but qualification races just seem a bit silly to me.

They probably cant say screw u on TV now. Sensitive America wouldn't like it.

This. ^^

NBC's Standards and Practices dept. would never allow it.

Caught this one during the 2nd timed practice and your right TV does not do it justice to how dang steep that hill really is.

Correct, they got rid of the name screw u when they started broadcasting more races. I specifically remember saying Wtf, they changed the name for tv. I'm thinking mid to late 90's.
