Curious about the upcoming MXDN this year. From what I understand, 125's 250's and 500's 2-strokes use to race and have been replaced by 250F, 450F and Open ( MX3 ) which I heard is 480cc to 540cc, which on some tracks I can imagine would be a big advantage in Horsepower. Do our America riders get the Option to run a 540cc Big Bore if they want it or do only the Euro's get this advantage in order to have a chance to beat Team U.S.A. I know not every rider needs more Horsepower, but it seems in some of those Deep sand tracks over in Europe, the extra Torque could come in Handy. I'd like to see RV on a KXF540 putting the roost to Herlings in a couple months.

No extra cc's needed.

Running big bore would just make it more unreliable. What you got to understand they can make a 450cc run fast with tuning, adding displacement would not help them. So between the rider and the mechanics, making such a change would just not make sense. Maybe a team from another country could consider Honda or Kawi Service 500. Then you might have something..

"Do our America riders get the Option to run a 540cc Big Bore if they want it or do only the Euro's get this advantage in order to have a chance to beat Team U.S.A" - seriously, you think they are that against you guys?

Shaun Simpson rode a 250 in the MX3 class in 2008 for GB and I'm sure many other riders have done the same over the years.

I think I remember Carl Nunn riding a big bore in the MX3 class in 2006, but I'm not 100% certain about that.

Someone on a KTM needs to line-up on a 500 just for the sake of "The Open Class"!

Herlings beat everyone except another 350 while on a 350 after falling in the first corner. It's not horsepower, it's flow and momentum and staying on top. I'm convinced he would have done the same had he been on his 250f.

125s were often faster than 500s. See O'mara 86 for starters.

STOP IT! Quit teasing us for Christs sake! Woohoo

OMG....would that be the most badass thing ever if the MX3 class was 2 stroke only? Holy hell. Only thing is.....KTM ( and possibly Yamaha ) would have an edge in that dept. Since Kawi , Honda and Suzuki don't make them any more. They would have to be special one - off type bikes....and i don't see that happening.

Better believe it, it IS happening. screw the JAPS Kawi, Honda and Suzuki. This is going to be a KTM and Yamaha show.

I don't know what the MXDN MX3 class will look like in the future, I think it will stay open (big ask for riders to switch to 2 stroke for one event).

personally that would be cool IMO. i dont think there are very many pros that race 2 strokes in the professional racing world (def. none in the US, but not sure about gp?), but requiring ALL teams to have someone on a 2 stroke presents a nice and FAIR challenge since everyone's gotta pick a guy. would be cool to see but who knows.

Emig said he had never raced on a KX500 prior to the 96 MXDN yet he easily won his class. 90% rider, 10% bike.

No, they are getting rid of the MX3 class, in the GP's. But for the MXoN, of which THIS thread was all about? No such thing as 'MX3'. It's called the 'Open' class, has been for years, the rules remain the same and i can't remember the last time anyone picked a two stroke over a four stroke in that class.

Ken De Dycker should have done that last year. For his size, it might have been helpful in the sand

do only the Euro's get this advantage in order to have a chance to beat Team U.S.A.

you really asked that?

really?

So you have what could have been a decent post with some valid questions and you show yourself like that?

Actually Kawi and Suzuki still make and sell 250 2-strokes, they just don't import them into the US.

Is the des nations not a youthstream event? Mx3 was always the open class correct? Or am I wrong here?

The gp's are a youthstream event as is the des nations. Figured they follow the same rules?

I guess it doesn't really matter since that isn't happening this year anyways ( or maybe even at all...)
