Agreed. Too bad for Summey and Gracyk....Gracyk especially had lots of to deal with this season....Wish 'em both well.
Grant/Cooper should be a big step up for the JGR '09 team.

yea hopefully grant can be more consistent as he already has good speed...i can see him on the podium every now and then for sure...

Hmm...maybe one of the current riders stays on? They do seem to like having at least one guy on the bench that they can bring in if one of their primary riders is injured.

With the '09 budgets being so tight, I am afraid they will be able to find solid replacements very easily...at any point of the season. Does anybody know what team, if any, Travis Preston is talking to? TP can run consistently within the top 10 both indoor and outdoor.

I like Preston a lot, I just don't think he deserves a ride next year on a great team. He didn't do too much with the Kawi deal this year and instead of putting the work in, racing outdoors, and trying to prove himself for next year he decided to stay home.

I think Josh grant will do great on the 450. In the amateur days he always seemed to do better on the 450. Wasn't it the 450 that Josh was able to beat Mike Alessi on at World Minis their last year? I could be wrong though...

i like preston because he is outspoken. I havent heard anything about his deal this year though. with everyone switching teams, and some guys moving up, i think we are in for some great racing this year..

I dont think they are trying to be a championship team yet. I do think think JG is capable of landing on the podium at a few rounds.

Grant is a good pick, somehow I think he'll be one of those guys that really takes to the 450 well even though they never dominated the small bikes.

I know its said all the time "THIS GUY DESERVES A RIDE!", but Cody Cooper has earned everything he gets next year, IMO. What he has done this summer on that privateer bike and no-name tame is nothing short of incredible. Cooper has actually come closest to beating Stewart so far this year. I hope they are patient with him in SX, this guy has a ton of speed.

Preston was riding James' 450 for the SX season so they would have more exposure, his deal was only for SX only or until James came back. Sure he didn't do much but he also mentioned he wasn't planning on racing this year either so he wasn't prepared. I don't know if he got offered a ride for the outdoors or not but it wasn't thru Kawi. He is awesome to have there and would be a podium threat if in shape .... does anyone know if he has a deal lined up for 09???

Grant and Cooper to JGR, cool I think Grant will do well but it will be a learning year for Cooper............I thought Millsaps was rumored to be riding for JGR next year, what happened to that??? His contract with Honda is up this year and there aren't a whole lot of spots open on other teams .....

Hmmmm hadn't read that yet..... not to bash but he doesn't seem very motivated there (Honda) yea he has had a few good rides but overall he hasn't really lived up to what everyone expected

Maybe he rode the 09 and decided to stay?

Here's how I see it:
-Coop deserves their 450 outdoor ride, so they should make sure that he is healthy for it.
Let him cut teeth in a 250f regional sx class. They have the budget for a good 250f.

-Grant is all or nothing, just like Weimer & Hill. Outdoors they always do something like 3-22, or win a regional sx race and get 20th in the very next one. He has nothing for the top 3 or 4 lites guys so he will be in a world of shit on a healthy big bike gate. Especially in a 16 round sx series instead of 6 or 7. That said, i love his attitude and his riding style.

-Summey, this pisses me off to no end. Bullshit if he doesn't get resigned or another good ride. With all the drama and injuries in his team he has put a gibbs bike in the top 10 all year. Indoors and out, while the other bike sits inthe pits. Has flown the flag well and cut the teams first year molars. Same kind of deal with Short, did well all season while his entire team sat out. Then kehoe makes smart ass remarks like, "we HAVE to resign him because he rode well this year." -this quote according to this board so it could have been bs, but they were not really wanting him back is the point.

Good idea with Coop. I think speedwise JG can hang with Millsaps, Short, Hill, and Ferry. But like you said he is all or nothing, I dont expect mush out of him for a full season, but I thnk he will put their ike on the podium atleast once.
And about the Short/Kehoe thing, without being there its hard to say how he meant "Have". It could be a good thing, like "I have to have that bike".

He didn't race the outdoors because he wasn't planning on racing at all and wasn't in good shape. He said he didn't want to go out and do it half assed. I can respect that.

i think MA had a better chance at beating JBS... mud is the equalizer he just happen to have a good run in that one moto... but i do think he deserves a ride but not based on one moto, but on the several top 10 finishes he's had (like gracyk last year)....

If Preston wasn't planning on riding they shouldn't have given him a ride. They shoulda picked up a privateer who was running well. Plenty of other riders who lost factory rides get out there as a privateer and tuff it out to get the next good ride. Look at Ferry. But Preston won't ride for anything less than factory so his moto days are probably over.

I saw one of the GJR guys cheering on Cooper on Sunday at Millville, so I thought he was maybe going that direction next year. Nice to see him get a little more support next year.

Honestly dude, he has been way more of a revelation than Grayck was last year. Gavin is awesome but he was consistently in that 8-12th range. Cooper has put this privateer Zook on the podium and handful of times and has been top 5 in points all year.

I can see how some people suggest throwing him in the 250Fs for SX, but I disagree. He has become what he is on 450 bikes, and shouldn't step back. Its not like its inherently more dangerous to run a 450 in SX than a 250F. I bet he picks it up quick.

I believe all he said was he wasn't going to race for a salary that would see him lose money after he paid for his insurance.

I don't understand about Preston

He raced all those weeks and never got in shape ? Couldn't race the outdoors because he wasn't in shape ?

Lots of water has gone under the bridge, To many eager kids with more potential that are activley staying in shape and racing. I would think it would be hard for him to get a decent ride this year but you never know.
