He said that last Thursday he had two In N Out burgers. Says Chipotle is a little too healthy. Goes surfing for training, then goes running.

A normal California kid who doesn't take life so seriously. I love it.

Kenny would make a great American like Chad has. Wink We'll happily take him.

And might even enjoy the occasional beer between series. Good personality and hope he keeps it with all the hanger ons wanting a piece of him.

I'm a big KR fan but you can only get away with admitting things like that if you're winning, which thankfully he is. If he struggles in the heat again at some point in the year like last season - then people (maybe even his own team) might be quick to jump on him.

I find it hard to believe he was surfing the last couple weeks instead of putting in the work. I am surprised Rog lets him. And it was cool to see him win. I just hope he dont fade when it gets hot

as accurate as you always are, you should know taking a couple weeks off isnt always a bad thing... remember the saying "a hungry dog hunts best?"

One of the most important part of training is tapering before an event. You're not going to get in shape the week before an event, but you can ruin your race by beating yourself in the ground the week before an event. Better to go surfing, eat some burgers, rest up mentally and physically and go to the gate full of piss and vinegar.

If he was 100% physically fit and had to maintain that fitness throughout the year, he would be overtrained early.
If you take a few breaks to recover you can come back and not be worn out. With SX and MX it is a looong season. I don´t know his routines or program, but it does make sense. This is just speculation though. But Roczen needs to be happy, if not his results go down the poop-tube.

There is not 1 way to train, especially if you train many hours. There is not 1 way to work too: many guys will do better by pushing what is urgent for half a day then learn the rest of the day in order to innovate/be different/gain a competitive advantage.

Surfing? What a good idea for training ! Excellent for balance.

It could be the same for climbing, jetski, etc etc. A good way to have fun, do new things, in addition of the standard training (running, weight, bike, swimming pool, massage)

Good for him. I'm sure he works plenty hard too. Nothing wrong with a little bit of fun and a couple of hamburgers every now and then. Plus surfing isn't exactly sitting on the couch, that shit wears me out.

I believe Roger knows from experience that not everybody is wired the same way, and what works for Dungey might actually detune a young kid like Roczen who hasn't grown from nearly an infant in the all-business style of American motocross that prevails today. He's still a youngster, and as he said in that interview...he has to keep some fun going to enjoy himself. I'm sure KR knows when to put on the serious race/training face as well as when to chill and kick it friends and a burger or two...and as long as it's working for him, and he's putting KTM on the box...I imagine DeCoster won't mess with him.

But I agree with you, that taking a bit of time off, I have surprised myself with some sick goonability on the bike.

Even though he's hardly been there 5 minutes I'm sure some will be "claiming" already Laughing

A very likeable kid,I bet he's even turned the opinions of a lot of those that were hating on him not too long ago

Everybody knows that in order to get a serious workout you have to do something boring, monotonous, and totally lacking in enjoyment, right? Sometimes mixing things up is a good thing. Also, if you don't think you can get a decent workout surfing, you have never tried it; kind of like those people who say motocross is easy, all you do is sit down and twist the throttle.

If you try to do it as a job, I am sure you will get bored after running 20h (marathon training) then riding for another 20h, per week.

Just do it 1 year if your body can take it. Pro racers are athletes, so do it for 10 years, you will need to find new stuffs to have fun, just my opinion, I am not Aldon Baker.
