To tell you the truth, I'd prefer to see RV struggle a bit at the beginning of the Season and have to work for the Championship. I want RV to get that Title, but I also want to see competitive racing throughout the season. I hate seeing everyone else racing for second place, because one guy is so far out in front with a huge points lead, so seeing it go down to the wire is what makes it interesting every weekend. Wouldn't bother me a bit to see Bubba and Dungey come out like Gangbusters and keep Villopoto honest and beat him, because I like seeing how Villopoto handles the pressure of playing Catchup, that's where he's most impressive.

Me too... and as a Dungey fan, hopefully they will even "gift" him a win or two as well!

I actually watched that. I don't know why, but I did.

I do not give an F who wins the title, i just want a real exciting season with races that make me lose breath and cause heart rhythm issues.

He looks good in the vid but of course it means very little. You expect all these guys to look fast on the test track. I really hope James has a good year - tbh I'd like to see him win the title. Not that I'm traditionally a huge die hard JS fan but the sport really is better with him out there and with all the excitement he brings. I also think it's fair to say that he's somewhat of an underdog now (at this point in his career)... and who doesn't like cheering for an underdog?!

Difficult and probably unwise to bet against RV in the grand scheme of things though. Also RD.

I understand how good James is, I've been on the track riding with him and saw him right in front of me do stuff and was like what the hell... how the hell, no way, you got to be kidding me, did anyone else just what he really just did etc... he took a small braking bump make a jump out of it over 10 other braking bumps and landed in dead the corner with the bike set up perfect and was gone.... so sick. James may have the most skill/technical ability out there period. Villo has pure hate for the track. I don't know how they are going to be that intense all season .

Hopefully he can make it through a full season.

I hope for all riders to stay healthy and put on a good race, that being said I have never wanted someone to win the outdoors more than I want James to do it this year. Well, I take that back, last time I was cheering this much for one dude was Grant Langston....Anyway....GO JS7!!!!

James has always been fast, and I believe he still has the speed to beat, and gap Villopoto. I dont see that happening because luck has not been on his side the past few years as we all know. Reed has beat RV in the past, and Stewart has been able to come from 15th, with Carmichael behind him, pass Reed for 1st and gap him. So has Reed gotten THAT much faster with age, or were Stew and Ricky going that much faster in 2006/2007? I would love to see 2006-2008 Stew against RV now.

I think James Stewart is probably riding a Motocross bike faster now than he was 2006-2008. You listen to any of the Pros or even Ricky Camichael recently while commentating he mentioned that the bikes of Today are SO! much faster than they were just a few years ago that I'm pretty sure if you lined Bubba 2008 KXF450 against Bubba 2013 RMZ450, it wouldn't even be a race, his Zook would smoke that Kawasaki. You can imagine all the different ways you want to explain how James stewart of 2006-2008 would beat Villopoto, but it could also be easily said that Ricky Carmichael of 2002-2005 when he was in his Prime would have beaten Bubba even worse then he did for those 4 straight AMA SX and MX titles when RC was getting ready to retire. Bubba is riding just as good as he ever has, it just doesn't seem that way, because Villopoto has stepped up the Bar that makes James look slower.

I think that sometimes when buying a new bike but then realize bikes really haven't improved that much.

Here's some recent evidence. 2013 Vegas Cunningham on a yz250f got on the podium

The 2013 Yz250f is virtually a 2006 with a new frame. Same motor with carb!

I was curious and just looked up lap times from 2007 and 2011 at Budds Creek. Granted, tracks change and they have a huge part of lap times, but as you said bikes change as well. It sure would be interesting to compare the top two at that time, to the top two now. I still think Ricky and James were going unmatchable speeds then even for the riders now.

2007
Ricky Carmichael
Moto 1: 01:58.785
Moto 2:02:01.180

James Stewart
Moto 1: 01:59.401
Moto 2: 02:01.491

2011
Moto 1
2:01.62 Ryan Villopoto
2:02.781 Ryan Dungey

Moto 2:
2:04.595 Ryan Dungey
2:04.758 Ryan Villopoto

Don't fool yourself they are not THAT much better. The biggest thing from 2008 to now would be the fuel injection. The factory bikes are damn good and I am sure that his '08 would still be competitive today. The technology of bikes today is so far advanced they are lucky to make any improvements. And those improvements are usually very incremental. Like we have seen from some manufactures (Yamaha and arguably Honda) that are in search of new things, sometimes the new latest and greatest isn't always a better thing. OMG a rearward slanting engine, MUST HAVE... DUAL EXHAUST!??!! Just like on my lifted Ford, MUST HAVE.

seriously.

my only hope is that we can get through a season without a top competitor getting hurt.

it's an amazinly deep class. If js7 stays healthy he will have a shot at winning it all. dunge? can bank on him being there.

pumped for next week Smile

I still think that James is the fastest and most talented guy out there. Whether or not he can put a season together is another matter.

On a smooth track James is still the King of speed, likewise on a very technical supercross he is the very best. There has not been a MX series of "smooth" tracks since 2008 and the SX tracks haven't been technical for a few years. I think that has a big reason as to why he's not killing the competition like before and of course the competition is better. They have all been watching him and copying his style for years!!

OK, several things here:

1. WTF is up with the noobs' random capitalization?
2. I, too, watched the tractor video.
3. I, for one, am impressed at what seems to be a new level of maturity for James.
4. Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that James' style has become less "aggressive" looking as he has moved on in his career. In other words, it looks as if moves that he invented are being better performed by riders other than him?
5. Lastly, anyone else starting to dislike 'poto just because of the noob?

That is all.
