Is it an actual "bounce" caused by the spring
or
Is it a change of trajectory under acceleration creating a more upward launch and therefore a higher "bounce" (leap)?
Steve's simple test he explained ad nauseam, if you took tie downs and compressed all the suspension, all the way, and then used a mechanical latch to release the tension of the straps all at once, will the bike leap off the ground, or will it just rise at a controlled rate due to suspension damping?
RIP Mr.Bruhn
(Yes he started this site original to take on a very stubborn poster, the forums and articles are long gone but TFS remains!)

Rest in peace TFS.
some dude named STEVE BRUHN - had recommended me. I never, ever forgot that.
There's many stories like that. Steve liked to help people out. Tramps like me.
We shall NEVER forget you. You loved your people and you loved your motocross,
And we dig that. And we dig you . Cheers, brother.
Im just a nobody fan. I remember lurking at bushwood and somehow this guy teef made everyone so damn mad. You heard his stories and watched long enough and you just knew there was more to it than met the eye, you gravitated towards him even when you were disagreeing with him.
Guys like teef were the guys i just envied. I mean, I knew when i was 15 i wasn't going to be a professional racer, but all I ever wanted to do was something around the sport. It was cool when the pros would show up here, thats like star struck or something, but guys like steve you looked up to cause the loved the sport enough to figure out a way to be in it every-single-day. I wish i could have been like that.
I feel for all of you guys that called him a friend, I feel bad and I don't know that I ever talked to him. But as someone said before, as a young adult I lived the sport I love through his pictures and articles, and i for a big chunk of my early professional life I burned through many a work day laughing at his antics online. When teefus entered a thread it was relevant.
Thanks Steve, from someone you never knew, but that looked up to you just the same.
Jeff
Pit Row
Surprised RC16 has not jumped in here? Then again, that was a decade ago.
one back in '82, i was fighting for 3rd in the 125 pro class. i was living on a meager budget and really needed to get that 3rd place money, they were only paying back to 3 places that night and i was riding a "wide bike" if you know what i mean. well it turns out that the leader, alabama fast guy ricky palmer was about to lap us but i didnt know it. i wasnt going to let go of 3rd place without a concerted effort, i gave everyone behind me a hard time for a bit. it turned out that palmer got around us and i hung on to 3rd that moto. apparantly, there was a "discussion" about it on the track, but i never saw a blue flag so i didnt worry about it. turns out it was tfs pitting for palmer and my pit guy discussing it. it worked out, but i never knew it was teefus that wanted my pit guy to know that i should of moved over, buy i never saw the blue flag. just teefus doing his job and looking out for his rider. steve was like that, memory like a steel trap.
later on, i remember teefus had a tight battle on his own running for the series championship at our track in the vet class. he won the series.
i remember him telling stories of how he would broadcast the supercross races from the seats on his laptop, similiar to the cycle news updates and moving around to keep ahead of the officials, something about broadcast copyright lol
met up with him at steel city in '99, he took me over the carmichal's motorhome to meet him, im a big carmichael fan.
no matter how far steve traveled, he always took time with his old friends back home. i'm going to miss his stories, reports, and photos. i cant make the funeral, but i wish those going a safe trip, God Speed Steve, you left the motoworld in better shape than you found it.
