Winning world championships has nothing to do with this. Stewart has more natural talent than bayle on a dirtbike no doubt about it.

MC is a tough one he had all the talent in the world at Supercross but it was his technique that made him so good at that IMO, but in no way was he a "natural" outoors he worked hard for it.

Pichon stands out to me, AC222 not a natural IMO and hes one of my all time favs so I aint bashing him but I think AC is about hard work and balls to the walls riding when needs be.

I forgot about Everts on mine. (I know how in the hell do you forget Everts!)

Bullshit. Quite a few of the people who have listed more than one rider have Everts on their lists. You clowns across the pond are looking for offense.

Part of the problem is that people have different definitions of what a "talent" guy is. There seem to be a couple of common themes: (1) guys who are so smooth they look slow even though they are making other guys who look fast look like fools (e.g. Tripes), and (2) guys for whom it seems come so easy and didn't grind it out on Sunday and during the week (e.g., Bayle eating his kit kat bars and playing in the hills while Stanton was grinding laps.

I didn't put RC on my list, but that doesn't mean I don't think he's the baddest of all. If it's a thread that asks about who had the most complete set of skills, talent, work ethics and race smarts ~ who was the most formidable competitor ~ the list is going to look different. Guys like RC, DeCoster, Everts, probably Smets, Cairoli, RJ, Hannah, Stanton, Mikkola start showing up and guys like Tripes and Lechien don't. But Tripes and Lechien were mind blowing to watch ride, absolutely unreal. I still think Tripes is the one guy I've seen since my first race that was unfathomable talented on a bike (which means nothing to someone who never saw it).

There's a lot more championships on the list of the total package guys than the most talented guys. Fancy that. But any of the riders who ever achieved a top ten in the US or the GPs are incredibly talented.

Any time someone asks for a limited list, people are going to disagree. It's not a reason for the little willy syndrome to kick in for the GP advocates, especially on a board based in the US with a majority of contributors from the US. Make your case for who you think is best without interjecting the red-ass us vs them stuff.

x2 , Ramon has amazing natural talent , might not of been the fastest guy every time , but the tread is about natural talent , not raw speed

I guess it all depends how you define "talent". Judging by this thread, most people feel like talent = pretty riding style? To me, it's a race, not a contest. There's no way I would put someone like Windham (zero titles) in front of Stanton (6 titles). Strong work ethic, determination, toughness...those things are talents too (in my opinion).

Ron Lechien has to be number 1. With the story above, how many other guys could do that? To add to the story didn't one of the Kawi big wigs chew him out for it, and that pissed him off. Ron to me was all talent, seemed like there was never any desire. Remember he did this against the likes of RJ, Ward, and how many other champions on the gate. How many champions did RC, and Bubba line up against?

How do you define "pure talent" anyway. Some guys who make it look effortless have been on a bike since they were barely able to stand up.
You have guys like JMB and Pourcel who looked like they didn't train, but they still put in the hours. Training isn't just about doing laps. Play riding will still teach you a lot about bike control. Maybe that's one of the reason why some of the French riders look so smooth.
Bayle carving his name on the hill while Stanton was pounding laps was not only one way to train but also mental warfare.
