Stewart "chokes" in 07 when he wrecks his knee leading in points, in a freak dab, are you serious?

Did Tomac choke? I don't know... I thought he's been in situations more pressure-filled than SLC and done fine, but I guess that doesn't mean he didn't. He was right behind Osbourne early, who was also struggling in the whoops...and he put 5 seconds on Tomac by the halfway point. Plus he was passed by Davalos and Craig in other parts of the track. By appearances ET fucked up bad. But damn I was impressed by how collected he was when it was over!

Roczen had a 'WTF just happened' look on his face talking to Erin. Dude was in shock. Tomac just said he couldn't do the whoops like he wanted, he had to hold himself back, and that was the best he could do. Matter-of-fact. And he was smiling - almost had me convinced it was all part of the plan!

Yes. Not just for Washougal where it ended. Ricky left the series after Red Bud, Stewart had a 66 point lead over Grant Langston. Then he knocked himself stupid at Unadilla and didn't race, barely won Lakewood with a 2-4 and finished himself off for good at Washougal. The championship was his to lose and he threw it away in 3 races. What word do you use for it? Stellar perfromance?

Greg Norman in a major. Now he is worth about $300,000,000. That is why championships are so hard to win, won a few in hockey, lost 10 times more.

You have to be great at something to be a position to "choke" on the big stage, I hate that word.

I'll say my first hare scrambles too, great start, muddiest track in history (ruined the track, not another race there), I don't need no stinking water either. Fell in the slime a few times, just saved my little 525 from sliding into a raging brook, branches stuck in the spokes, a girl, (yes, a forking girl) stopped to help me, and in the end I DNF'ed with about 5 minutes left sucking so much air birds were falling from the sky.

I had a bigger choke than a lonely Ron Jeremy.
Please. Schumacher could wipe his ass with $300,000,000. Kimi too.
Dudes own snowmobiles and could drink Chrystal from solid gold goblets while getting back rubs from A-list actresses.
Schumi owns his own island, has several yachts and hangs with Beckham and Gwen Stefani.

I don't know... if he'd finised in 10th I'd agree w/ you. But he kind of got it back together the last 3-4 laps and started getting back by some guys late in the race. I think he ended up 6th which is decent considering how far back he was.

It was a dramatically different ride than what we saw at the start of the series though, I'll give you that.

Emig mentioned a race that he finished 14th after holeshotting and didn't even fall, all with the #1 plate on his bike. I forget what race he said that was but I'd have to say that's up there. Another one that comes to mind is Jake Moss looping out while in 3rd at Unadilla I think it was. ahhahahahahahaa Makes me LOL just thinking about it. It wasn't for the win but it was very C rider 'esk and it was hilarious.
When Jake looped out he would have got the overall but if you check out the bike it was smoking and playing up, it hooked up a bit better than expected and the loop out was something i bag him about still. Then he said to me "dad i came 2nd in 2 x 450 AMA motos, how did you go in 450 AMA motos". As for Jake choking i think Dortmond SX with 2 corners to go and a quarter lap lead was a good choke and also on the TLD 250f when he passed Wiemer,Canard and Dungey and pulled 3.5 sec laed by lap 8 before washing out the front tyre was a pretty good choke also. Again when i bagged him he replied " how did it feel for you to pass guys like Wiemer and Dungey". So i guess CRF505 i must ask, how did you go?

I can't remember the year, but it was a while ago... Didn't Grant Langston crash while leading on the final lap of what would have been KTM's first ever SX win? If I remember correctly he did a fist pump over a triple, overshot the next berm and laid it over.

Crashed on a little double after the triple.

I wouldn't say Tomac choked last week. He took what he could. They didn't have the bike where they wanted so any "choking" was on them as a team and not solely on Tomac. If Tomac was a "choker" he would have let Wilson bump him off the track and not retaliate. He's had plenty of high pressure situations where he's performed quite nicely. It wasn't a matter of the rider choking as much as it was the bike not performing. I say good on him for taking what he could and showing some self control/preservation.

I don't think Tomac choked. He admittedly sucked in the whoops ALL day. It's a freaking mind game...go for it and crash or be happy you gained 15 points on KRock. He coulda/woulda/shoulda CAPitalized on the gift for sure.

What if I you that in 1992, Damon Bradshaw did not WANT to pass Guy Cooper because of the fine print in his contract?

I think Newmann hinted at it. The fact that he won 9 races but didn't win the title should be a dead give away that something was afoot in the Yamaha pits.

Didn't Tomac only qualify 10th? I say he finished better than expected.

Didn't Dean Wilson do this at cornerstone a couple three seasons ago, handing the win to rattray? I believe it would have been Dean,s first moto win. Could be wrong though but pretty sure it happened at freestone in 2010 or 2011

LMAO, thats the first thing that came to my mind.

It was definitely a surprise to see Tomac throw an anchor like that. But choking would have been going for it and throwing it away by crashing. He took what he could get on a bad day and brought the championship within 5 points. He was 20 back at the beginning of the night. Now he's got a realistic chance. It would have been almost impossible if he went down and didn't get any points, or worse yet got hurt It's easy to say that he choked because he didn't win but it's harder when you're twisting the throttle instead of a keyboard.

In 1992, BRadshaw was the hottest commodity in American Scooter racing. There was a clause in his contract, that if he won a championship, his contract would automatically renew for "X" dollars.

Well, when you sign your contract as a 17 yr old in 1989, that's a GOOD thing. It's job security.

But by 1992, those "X" dollars are no longer lucrative and you are worth much more. So, now, you see that maybe he didnt want his contract to automatically renew because if he got 2nd in points, he would be free to negotiate a much higher salary, which at that point in time, he was worth.

so he sandbagged, got 4th and signed for the then astronomical figure of about 400K in 1993.. (in 2013, in AMA Monster Energy dollars, that would be about 40 billion) the retirement part was Lunnis. Guy was a prick, apparently (i wasnt in the yamaha pits so I dont know) so Bradshaw retired, on Lunnis' advice.

Funny thing is...Mike Kiedrowski retired way early as well, then attempted an ill-fated comeback. Who was his mechanic? Brian Lunnis.

Had Bradshaw won the championship, his contract would have automatically renewed for the same chumpchange. He had offers for multi year deals worth millions and not winning let him renegotiate for what was the biggest deal of the time. Yamaha should have offered an incentive to winning, not punishment. Shit might have worked out differently for them. Gotta imagine that whole deal is probably to blame for Damon's burn out scenario that followed. Choke, or realizing a big corp. might have just conned your 19 or 20 year old ass?? I'll show you...

And wasn't that the same year Damon got spit over the bars on the triple at Indy? 25 points out the window mid season that he had to fight back for.

Edit: Don't walk away for 15 minutes and then hit submit without seeing who lapped you....twice. "What" covered it.

Five year deal for $450.000.00 per year as I remember it. Of course that's the story by the time it made it from California to the right side of Texas with no internet....Laughing
