Should all of the other racers who aren't 1-5 places or maybe even 1-10 places quit too?
If they're going to make a run for the outdoor title then why not?

But the fact is, Mike is one of the few guys that is not a "contender" in both series. He's one of the "best of the rest" in SX and a legit contenter in MX. None of the other also-rans in SX would benefit at all from dipping out on SX early to start testing.

Sounds like a save money thing to me. And there's nothing wrong with that. Costs a fortune to hall a rig around.
they still have the Canada and Faith to haul around.

Maybe he should take the whole SX season off. I mean...he has no shot at winning.

If anyone thinks he hasn't been testing outdoors, they're naive. What's so new on the Suzuki 450 anyway?

He just got a 6th at Seattle! Like only 5 people out of the 7 billion on the planet could go faster on that night!

He's an amazing rider! Might not win the title but still he hauls ass and if he wants to put all on the line to win Hangtown maybe that's his best chance to win a national. Problem JS7 is doing the same!

It amazes me how the the level of anger or happiness at the thought of skipping an SX race can be so drastically different by simply changing the name.

Good for him. Hope he finds the extra speed to hang with the Ryan's outdoors!

oh, and one more thing I learned from your enlightening post, I didn't know that you can only get hurt by racing! (sarcasm)

All joking aside why can't team WE figure out whoops and racing ahead?

DUH.......This is Vital. If you don't win on a regular basis, you should just hang up your boots. The funny thing is that the guy makes every main no prob even posting good finishes here and there and still gets 1/10000th the love of guys who may or may not show up at Hangtown. Maybe he should just get all tatted up or roll cars, race hung over make lame hand gestures over the head of a guy who 5 years later has had 1000X his success and act like a general ass-wipe. Then maybe he would be cool on Vital.

I agree, focus on the real deal. Not sure (other then whoops) why MA doesn't do as well at SX but I really don't care. Best of luck too MA, he will be up front more then many other so called top 7. The guy is a fighter.

Fighter? He constant goes backwards, looks behind him and when someone gets close he rides a wide and dangerous bike. No way he will be up front more than the other 7. In this field he is a 4th thru 8th guy even with holeshots. His only hope at podiums this year is others crashing out.

I agree. The guy flat out hauls outdoors and doesn't give up positions easily. Would love to see him sniff podiums all summer long.

I hope it works out for the best for him. He's a very stand up guy to his fans and it would be awesome to see him consistently on the podium this year. His work is cut out for him with so much amazing talent in the class, but I'm sure the extra testing and not focusing on circus racing will be good.

Anyway to the 4 guys i bet with, I was planning on paying my first payday after Vegas which was the 16th of May if that's okay. I still think he could have got on the podium in the last 2 races....at least he made it out of Supercross in one piece. Sorry for the delay but the season doesn't actually end until the 4th or something like that.
Crash,

I was thinking Alessi would podium Seattle for sure. Good SX year for the kid either way. That's a tough class.

Send my check to Asterisk Medical and we'll call it good. Is that OK with you?

I see 2 sides to the views here... those who think MA800 can be a podium contender and those who think he's about a 5th to 10th place guy with the full, uninjured field. I like Mike and I really wish him the best but the reality I see is that he couldn't touch RD5 (or JS7) last season. What does that mean for this season? Hopefully not a hill of beans because it's always nice to have another real contender out there. My gut tells me he will be around a 5th - 7th place guy... behind RV2, RD1(5), JS7, DM18, CR22, JB51, and a few possible others. Will he get a podium? He is absolutely, 100% capable of a podium. Will he get a win? It is possible but slightly more unlikely. Good luck to MA800 and Motoconcepts. I hope they are able to run top 3 each week and prove me wrong, but recent history says to me it's not likely to happen that way.

He should get some orange or red plastics for that thing just to piss suzuki off. I like how he refers to it as the MCR450 He is giving up some purse money on those last two.

Not at all....I just call it based on history and how acts and performed in the past. This year will be no different. He is simply not on the same level as RV, RD, CR....etc. I you think he is then you are the one puffin' the #800 peter and we all know how you love your little Mikeypoo! Wink

I think Mike will do fine this year. I believe he's better than a 5-7 showing. I predict that by seasons end, he'll be top 5 in points. Last year he just fell in that weird spot where he was behind Dungey, but in front of everyone else. It was a strange gap really. I say this year we'll have the Ryans up front, and 800 will be mixing it up with the rest of the elite. This is purely opinion, but my gut is telling me this so I'm letting it ride.

I would like to see him do well because he was supposed to be the next big thing and he hasn't put it all together since turning pro. (When he was an amateur though I hated him because he won everything)

Looks like Mikey is going to be ready...very ready for Hangtown!!!

MotoConcepts Racing: Mike Alessi Update

SPOKANE, WA (April 24, 2013) - MotoConcepts Racing by Smartop rider Mike Alessi will miss the remaining two rounds of the AMA Supercross season. Alessi will not be racing the Salt Lake or Las Vegas rounds in order to dedicate testing time on his MCR450 for the Nationals.

“It’s a unique situation whereby we have new technology for the 450 that requires a great deal of attention and testing time to develop,” explains Team Manager Tony Alessi. “Mike had decent results in the Supercross series but our goals for the Nationals are much higher. The team needs additional testing to best develop the 450 technology, and all of us, from Mike, to the team, to our sponsors want to be back on the podium.”

It will be interesting to see how he finishes on his Factory Ohlins compared to his Stk MB1 Modified Suspension he had in 2012 where he finished 2nd OA in the series with a Moto win..We will see... Believe the Hype or not?
