Legendary Finnish motocross gear company YOKO is coming back to US motocross racing scene this summer. Twenty year old Finnish rider Eeli Takatalo will be racing Lucas Oil pro motocross series aboard Munn Racing KTM 450. Eeli has raced European Championships last couple of seasons in 250 class, but now he is in Southern California preparing for his US debut in 450 class, which will take part at Hangtown on May 18th.
"I'm really excited to come to US and race with the best riders in the world," says Takatalo. "This is a huge opportunity for me and something I've dreamed about ever since I started to follow US racing as a kid". "I know racing in the US is going to be tough, but I hope to make best of it". "I've trained hard this past winter in southern Europe and am now here In SoCal putting the finishing touches on my preparation before the season opener. Sure, the weather and tracks here are amazing, but now just I need to focus the task at hand, working on being as ready as possible when the gate drops at Hangtown.
Eeli is joining a strong team Yoko riders, consisting of 13-time Enduro World champion and two-time GNCC champion Juha Salminen and reigning Finnish MX1 Champion Toni Eriksson.

It's a long way from this stuff.
Of course I was totally stoked to not only have real MX gear, but I was super impressed to be sporting the iconic Fox head logo on my jersey and pants.
What was a mystery, however, were the odd letter "Y's" that were also plastered on my gear.
Of course I later learned that Yoko made most (or at least a good percentage) of all the MX gear at the time.
It would be interesting to see a list of all the brands that were actually made by Yoko.
Glad to see them back making a return!

I think J-P Vehviläinen and Antti Pyrhönen were both properly fast, but were hindered by constant injuries (and dodgy teams in Pyrhönen's case). Both had some real potential.
Pekka Vehkonen, the famous number 2! Must have been quite disappointing to hold that number in GPs for 4 times in a row!
But thanks for the correction. So if we don't include the arenacross title in 1990, It's been 28 years since finnish rider won a major championship!!??
J-P Vehviläinen was my favourite finnish rider in the 90's and I thought he could rise to the top but never quite got there as you mentioned already. In my opinion Pyrhönen was never as promising.
But anyhow, I hope Eeli does well!!
"They really should have done something with the guys hair, photo'shop or a comb.. either way it looks like he has a coconut for a head.."
Hey man, be nice. It's not his fault. His daddy was a yeti. And it makes it very hard for him to get a properly fitting helmet.
