The 250f is one of the most fun bikes you will ever ride. I was just as fast if not a little faster on my 250f and I weight 200 pounds. You can wrap that thing out all the time which makes it fun to ride. 450 your just kind of mozying along because so much power. One post is right-It feels like your going so much faster on a 250f when your really not. Just look at the races on TV with the pros. The 250f guys look like there flying compared to the 450 guys. Reminds me of riding a 2 stroke but with the fun factor of a 4 stroke. For me I do like the 450 because of some jumps-the power is there when I need it but for strictly fun factor the 250f is way more fun to ride. If I dropped about 30 pounds I would probably get another 250f.

I say do it man.

Thanks man, the bike in question is possibly a freebie so I can't pass it up. It's funny I had the hole rev limiter thing going on and down the straits it was like pull, pull, ok where's the limiter oh...it has more, grab another gear......

I'd call them a quad rider.

best bike combo (if you can swing two bikes) would be 450 and a 125 imo.
I went that route and ended up on the 125 90% of the time. I just got rid of the 450 and bought a 250 2T. The 250 2T has a great combo of weight handling and power.

I am thinking of doing the same. I don't think it is a no-brainer though to go with the 2-stroke, but I might. I like carrying corner speed more than the abrupt power. I am older, and the riders in my class on 450s remind me of how the ole bridgestone minibikes sound when they are out racing. The 250f may make me slower elapsed time, but the fun factor might be worth it. The 2-stroke is a constant battle and on the tracks i get to go to, they produce a ton of wheelspin. I am thinking of the Yamaha 250F, i haven't seen any of those blow up ever. After all that I still don't know which one to get---aaarghh...
A 250T with a flywheel weight might be the ticket. I run one on my CR and it tames the hit without making it feel like a dog.

The CR250 is weak sauce compared to any other 250 smoker...riding a stock yz250 compared to one of these (even the 01) and it feels like a big 125.

Matt Bisceglia said my bike made his 250F's feel slow, flywheel weight and all. He likes it so much he bought an 07.

I used to have a 2006 kx450f with a mod motor. I was only sixteen at the time but man was the awesome. On the same hand, I had a 250t and a 250f too in my stable. I found that riding the 450 made me wail everywhere on both 250s! If you can swing it, I'd say pick up a 250f, keep the 450, and ride both. With that much speed on the 450, you'll carry more on your 250f!

I made the switch a few years ago and will never go back. 250f's are straight up giggle machines. I have had 250 2-strokes and now a built up 96 cr 125 as a secondary bikes. I get to ride a bunch of different bikes that people bring up to my track and my crf250 is still my favorite. I was disappointed in the 350 it felt really heavy and vibrated a bunch but ive heard the 13's are better? Do it, you wont regret it. Way more fun than a 250 2-stroke, imo.....

zehn have you ever ridden a 300cc two stroke? Little to no struggling for traction, way lighter and way more fun to ride a bloated 250 or 450 four stroke.......plus the money you save on maintenance will pay your entry fees.

I am also considering dropping down to a 250F from a 450. I do like my 450, but I feel it is a bit hard on the body and it can be a handful at times. Because I have a lot less time to ride these days, my bike fitness is not as good as it could be. I am thinking the lighter weight, better handling and less power of the 250F might be a better fit.

Why are people so scared of trying the 350? best of both worlds in my book. 350 is where my money is going on the next bike.

It is definitely a confidence thing for me I believe. On my 450 I just dont feel confident anymore on it. Maybe mental a little? The 350 would be nice but I bleed red ( diehard Honda fanboy) lol. Maybe a modded 250f and motivation to drop some weight. Pic of me mobbin around the track
Yeah, I still bleed Red, I have a '12 450, and keep the 350 for the times when I want to ride longer. I really would like Honda to make a crf350r but that is a pipe dream. The 300 2stroke is a good bike power wise, but unless you like to actually feel your hands when you ride I wouldn't suggest it. Too many vibs in the bars for me.

My 2012 crf250 was the most fun bike I have ever owned. I sold it and bought an 09 450 and an 03 cr 250 with the money. I'll have another 250f sometime, but I'm interested in trying make the CR like a fast 250f.

I used to love the radical hit of a 250 smoker when I raced them......but now I just see it as being a pain in the ass.

Btw, I had been riding 450's for 6 years and the 250f was a big breath of fresh air for me.

Stick an entire sweatshirt in the airbox, wedge a couple bricks under the gas tank, and hit the pipe a few times with a hammer. It'll run just like a 250F and cost less to maintain.
Thomas Jefferson, I have been keeping my eye on you, and up to this point might have questioned your motives and some of your posts, but we are all good after this thread! This post made me spit my drink all over my work monitor and keyboard! Now everyone will wonder why my keyboard is sticky! Just this year I went back to my 2000 RM 250 from my 2007 CRF 450 and I cannot believe how much fun that thing is! It's a little more work to make it go as fast as my 450, but I feel less tired at the end of my motos. I am doing a complete valve and topend on the 450 so I will be on the 250 for a while, but even when I get the 450 back, I think I will still ride the 250 just as much as the 450! What is crazy about this is that I built the 250 in 08 right around the time I bought the 450, it had less than five hours on it when I started it for the first race of the season this past weekend!

This thread is further evidence this is a great time to be a dirt bike consumer. 125, 250, 250f, 300, 350f, 450f, used bikes, new bikes, jap bikes, euro bikes, 144 kits, 280/290 kits. Each of these bikes have been advocated by at least one person in this very short thread, and not one is better than the next. The answer to the question "which bike is best" is completely personal to the individual, no matter how hard blowhards like Thomas Jefferson try to shove the answer down your throat. TJ, your CR250 is not better than my CRF450, and my CRF450 is not better than your CR250. They are both perfect for their current users.

If I were a rich man I would have one of each from the list above, and probably find the right occasion to use each of them.

You don't have to be rich to have one of each. I'm poor, but I have my priorities straight, so I have a 08 CRF450 and an 07 CR250. Interestingly, I've ridden the 450 once in the last year because the CR250 is more fun, for me. That being said, the 450 isn't going anywhere any time soon. It's still one of the best 450's on the track.

I would love to be a skinny runt and ride the 250. But most us bigger guys need the 450 to support height and weight. The longevity of the motor last longer in a 450 if your a bigger guy. Say anywhere 5'10 and weight anything over 215lbs.

that's the boat I am in with that Husky 125cr. I want that bike badly, but it just won't have the balls. if they would just make that exact bike with a 250 two-stroke, i'd be on it like a bum on a bologna sandwich.

What's really funny is most riders will still turn faster lap times & more laps on the 250f than a CR250. The percentage of riders out there faster on two-strokes pretty close to nil. I love my 125 but my 250f is a superior machine in every way................

of course you are faster on a bike with double the displacement.

Can I ask, which series do you race?

I know for a fact I am faster on the two-stroke. In the summer of 07, I owned an 06 RM250 and an 08 RMZ250. I actually gave the thing a fair shot. It did actually turn better on inside lines, but that's it. But that's just me, and I'm no Carmichael by any means. The fact is, I actually gave it a fair shot, and it cost me 7,500 bucks to answer the question.

Speaking of RMZ250, if anyone knows of a '10 or later RMZ (AL tank) blown up, let me know.

Anyone dropped from a 450 to a 250? How did you like the switch? My 450 shit the bead this weekend and I rode my buddies CRF 250, Wow was that thing fun! I'm seriously thinking about switching over. So anyone went this direction and do you have any regrets now?
It's not the same thing, but I have a couple of YZ250 two strokes and a YZ125.

The hard part is switching back up from the 125. I get used to clutching it and pinning it everywhere, then I jump on that 300cc big bore and I'm out of control for about 4 laps.

I feel like switching to any size four stroke is ultra easy. They are both so smooth, but that 250F is more fun in the corners and that's where it's all at in my opinion. I spend most of my track time on the 125 for the same reason.

What's really funny is most riders will still turn faster lap times & more laps on the 250f than a CR250. The percentage of riders out there faster on two-strokes pretty close to nil. I love my 125 but my 250f is a superior machine in every way................

PIR Thursday Night 40+ Expert with the occasional Woodland/Washougal, etc. thrown in. I was comparing a 250f with a CR250 initially when speaking faster lap-times. I had a couple and got rid of them as they just aren't as much fun for me and judging from what I see at the tracks most riders would agree. I also have a pretty decent private track at my house and get to ride a bunch of different bikes on it. To this day I still prefer the 250f's over anything else out there.....................I have no beef with two-strokes I own 5 of them but acting like they are superior and that 4-strokes are for squids is rather silly and amusing...............

Just as amusing as someone who says they won't ride a two-stroke because they "dont want to struggle for traction and stay on the pipe."

At that point, it's like, "why do you even bother riding at all?" or "buy a set of golf clubs".

Which, in turn, is almost as amusing as someone who mods the shit out of their CR250 to make the power delivery better so they can ride faster & longer………Sound familiar?

modding the shit out of a CR250 is amusing?

hmmmf. if you say so.

are you insinuating that modding a 250 two-stroke is useless and someone should just ride a bike that makes 15 less horsepower and weighs 20 more lbs instead? It sure seems that way.
