I'm as big a RV fan as there is, but I think Dungey just outrode Villopoto last night, there's No! shame in second place and Dungey is one of the best riders there's ever been. Basically these two riders are about equal in skill, I just think Villopoto has been willing to hang it out a bit more than Dungey this season, last night it was the reverse.
I can't believe I'm saying this...but I agree with THE NOOBPinch Blush Whistling ..aside from being big RV fan, but I do like and respect himTongue

Of course he let him by...Dungey had nothing to lose and was riding 'on the edge.' Villo has a giant points lead and had everything to lose...he was riding cautious and let him by. If he would've crashed and gotten hurt battling with Dungey, all of would say he was very stupid to not let him by. Definitely not 'straight up.'

RV got 22 points, that's a good night, why throw it away for the win, he's the smartest man out there!

Seriously, give RD5 his due. He shadowed RV2 the whole race. The whole fucking race
Actually ran him down too. I don't see how letting someone catch you is good race strategy.

Ok...I hate to even say this, because I'm not a Villopoto fan (as some here know). But...doesn't it seem like he pretty much backed off and let Ryan Dungey have the win in Minnesota? Seriously, after those few corners of them banging bars & making contact...I swear it looked like RV stood up & checked up going into the last corner that Dungey passed him ultimately for the win.

I've watched the incident three times, and as much as I hate to admit it...I think Villopoto let Dungey go by him with no effort against him for the lead...and the win.

Hope I'm wrong. Sad
Are you saying RV threw in the towel....that he surrendered? Possibly....

I'm a fan of both guys.....and honestly I think RD just had a little more in the tank tonight. I think RV was pushing it to the limit without crossing any lines.....but why risk it? RD looked awesome last night ( they both did )......but RD just had that "little extra" in speed , determination....and just plain wanted it more in front of his home town crowd.

I would of been happy for either one that won the race. As a fan......I was happy as hell to see two guys go at it like that. Great race.

No. He was not let by. Dungey had that pass made already in the whoops. They both fought hard and the better man on this night won the race. I guarantee you Villopoto wants this wrapped up by Vegas so he was pushing hard.

RV tried his best to hold RD off, and made some good aggressive moves to do so. But in the end, he had no answer for Dungey's speed.
Oh, and RV ran his 7th fastest lap on lap 20. His fastest since lap 11. He was still trying.

Uh...RD was faster tonight.

At first I agreed with Cigaro, but then I watched the race. I don't think RV let Dungey by as much as he gave in a little and let him go. It's kind of like Millsaps letting RV go.

Huh

If I said somewhere in a post that Rv let him by I must of been joking. That left handed turn where Rv got Dungey back you could tell Rv was pushing. And both their lap times were insane for the last 5 laps. Rv tried to get him back but it was too late.

I was there, and watched every single lap of each practice, the heats and the mains.

RV actually wasn't on fire all day. Dungey, Stewart, Reed and even Canard seemed to get into the grove quicker than he did (all when it didn't count of course). He did not bring that crazy intensity of his out until he ripped that start in the main.

Even then he had poorer lines than Dungey, going into the first rhythm section, before the end zone triple, and in the whoops. RV pushed and pushed but Dungey did not crack - the energy of the crowd was insane and hd to give him a boost. After Dungey passed him for the final time I think he knew it was over.

One of the best races I've ever seen, and a pleasure to watch in person.

exactly , i just watched it and he definately slowed up for a second. maybe figured better to get second then crash because dungey looked alot smoother and you could tell Rv was trying to figure out which way Rd was going. awesome race to watch for sure. thats about as hard and clean and agressive as you can get

RV let him pass.

But not to finish 2nd. I think he wanted to get behind Dungey to pick something up to get him back. However, Dungey was too strong last night. Dungey would have got him if he "let him" or not.

Not everyone realizes it, but sometimes the best strategy to win the race is to let the guy behind you by.
.....and then still not win the race. Genius tactic.

Highly doubt RV thought, "eggghhh, I'll just let him take this one tight".

funny how some people can see what they want to see, and what they will see is different than 20 other people!

Let him go? RV ran a 50.042 on lap 20 and finished 0.9 seconds behind Dungey. He fought until the end.

Dungey ran better inside lines. He was faster than RV. Dungey knew exactly when RV would try and check up and attempt to knock him sideways. Dungey passed RV and then built up a comfortable enough lead to avoid an RV take out move. Dungey takes the checkered flag.

RV, tried his best to stop RD and even pulled a few what I felt were a little on the chintzy side with blocking him in several turns

After RV's mini block party, and heading into the corner that Wharton earlier took out Bowers in, RV didn't want to end up as a spectator in the first row. RC and Emig were pretty quick to state he let RD go by too. No shame in it, Dungey was just the better rider that night and RV has a championship to win and needs to race smart.
